I’m not sure ‘versatile’ is the best word to describe a Nespresso machine :). Don’t get me wrong I like the coffee, but it’s a lock in model.

    • It makes all kinds of coffee, that's versatile. Not sure what other coffee a coffee machine should be expected to make.

      • +1

Its a capsule machine that's locked to their capsule only.

        • +6

          Other companies make compatible capsules.

        • -3

It's like saying that ground coffee machines are locked to ground only.

  • I would have thought the biggest selling point that sets it aside from other models is the Bluetooth capability.

    • +3

agreed. I love being able to tell the machine to make a coffee while I'm still in bed so I don't have to walk up to it.

I just wish I didn't have to walk up to the machine to collect it. Or leave some milk out of the fridge all night in prep for it.

      • Freeze milk first so it defrosts overnight. Or wrap a ice pack around the milk container.

        • +9

Or you know.. just take it out of the fridge and manually press the button to make the coffee yourself?

This bluetooth function is like an eject button on the VCR remote.

  • +1

Got this from the previous deal. Great looks, love the footprint. Also it’s much easier to refill the water.Bluetooth works fine.No issues with compatible pods.

Same price at Myer in case DJ sells out

  • Great machine now that they have fixed the design flaws in the waste water/used pod container. If you have an old version that overflows/leaks could possibly arrange a warranty exchange of the container part for the new version that has no hole at the back.

    • Could you elaborate on this? I bought this during the last DJ deal. Would that been the old version? It doesn’t seem to leak but does make a loud hissing noise after its heated up like steam is building up and being released that I don’t think is normal.

    • interesting! I got one of these back in april and I've definitely noticed the leaking. I've had to resort to putting paper towels underneath. might give someone a call…

edit: just called nespresso, the helpful lady didn't seem to know immediately what I was talking about when I mentioned possibility of known fault that causes leaking on my model. she suggested I clean the top pod-skewering mechanism, and do a descale with their special fluid (that I managed to get complementary after a bit of protest at having to pay to fix a possible known fault). after that if it's still leaking she said I could organise a pickup of the machine, and then they take it back and see if anything's wrong.

Take it back to the store. Call Breville, not Nespresso. Yhe waste water container has been completely redesigned. I took mine back to DJ after 2 months. Straight swap. At that time I didn't know it had been redesigned. Then when set up the new machine, noticed it. The old container has the hole in the back and I think its a mm or two narrower so you get water going down the side or spilling out the back. Definitely insist on a swap of the part or take back to store. Not sure what the hissing is about. There is a bit of water released into the container even when just priming/cleaning out the pump. In the old machine even this would be enough to leak and I would have to tip out the container before the first coffee. Seems like less water too now from doing this.

        • Hey Sammyboy, just to clarify, how can you tell whether each machine is the updated design? Or is this line simply the updated design? Thanks in advance.

          • +1

@elgoog: I should have taken a picture of the original box barcode. The box is identical on the outside and the machine is identical in external appearance. The only difference is the design of the the waste container. Its still 2 parts but they fit very well together now. On the top back edge of the back of the container wall there is a little channel thing that sticks out, I would presume to catch water. Don't remember this on the old one…but it may have been there. The bottom apart of the container has no hole at the back wall anymore. Just a little stopper which is probably to help keep the container in position and going too far back. The two parts fit very well together, so water wouldn't be able to spill over the bottom container lip anymore. Now that this is fixed the machine is brilliant. With the app you can adjust volume of water for all the settings and customise it. I adjusted the lungo down to 100ml, as its about that point I noticed the coffee was mostly extracted already and it was more like brown water coming out which would be bitter. The temp adjustment is also really good depending on which blend you are using. With the American setting (as it was asked in another comment), the machine switches from coffee spout after about 100ml to the hot water spout. This would prevent over extraction of the coffee pod, however it is a bit weaker as its diluted with hotwater, but that is the style after all.

            • @Sammyboy: Hey Sammyboy! Could you pls pm me a photo/post up a photo of the redesigned back of the container you have now? Thanks!

  • What is better? Cash Rewards cash back or 10 bonus frequent flyer points via Qantas Store?

    • 10 points, or 10,000 points…?

      • +1

Qantas Store gives 10 points for every dollar spent at David Jones

        • +1

I see..! So roughly 2000 points for this purchase. Which I believe has a 'value' of ~$20. Technically that's better than cashback?

  • Thanks OP!
Bought one to pick up Click & Collect.

  • I had to ring around a few stores last time to find one in stock. DJ’s in Warringah Mall had one and the floor staff organised the sale and shipping for me over the phone, so if you can’t get it online, try calling a store.

    • theres a few avalable in the brisbane area - i've ordered mine for pick up from indoorpilly

  • +1

It's too big for me, but I like this style of coffee machine where it's possible to push it against the wall but still have reasonable access to the water tank - and see the water level easily.

  • Just bought one online, thanks!

  • FYI it has been this price for a few weeks now. Great because it's the cheapest one powerpoint machine and the temperature controls. It does have a americano function as well but I'm not sure how well that would work out even with the lungo pods

  • Also available from Myer at this price if you're more partial to some Myer One points https://www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/nespresso-by-breville-e…

    • Thanks!

  • Noob question - What kind of capsules does it use and general idea about costs for this please?

    • +4

it uses the nespresso orginal (or compatable) capsules.

have a look here just be aware of two things - prices quoted are generally on a per capsule basis (they come in sleeves of 10) and online you need to order a minimu of 5 sleeves, but you can go into a nespresso store and get as few as 1 sleeve. there are also compatable nespresso capsules out there you can get from the supermarket like these from vittoria

  • Is it just me or cashrewards doesn't work on davidjones?
The cashrewards extension on my firefox doesn't recognise the site as one of the cashback site.

    • Just you. I already see the purchase in my cashrewards balance.

Getting this error on DJ's site: Sorry, this colour / size combination is not currently available.
    Myer is showing sold out.

    MEH! lol

  • Sold out in Myer
David Jones has returned to normal RRP

I just looked it up at DJs Online as per the link in the OP; still $199

      • Weird, I even double checked.

  • Just got an email from DJ saying they cannot fulfil the order and will provide refund. mofo!

    • mofos, best I don't get the same email, its still on their website

      • Ordered another one at a different store and received an "order ready to be picked up" email a few hours later. So I guess the deal is still on.

        • It’s on until the mid season sale ends; the store you did your first order on must have run out of stock (or can’t find it)

          • +1

@kerfuffle: I did an online order with delivery, hopefully mines still coming as I just purchased over $100 of pods.

            • @cashie: I ordered click and collect at 1030 yesterday morning, it was just cancelled even though all day today heaps of stores still had stock listed. Guess thats what I get for trying David Jones. Never again!

            • @cashie: If the warehouse doesn’t have it, they may ask a store to send it if they have stock. I’m currently waiting for a dress that was fulfilled by the Bourke St Mall store, but seems to have gotten lost by Australia Post in Melbourne …

              • @kerfuffle: Why didn't you tick associated?

                • @Scab: I no longer work there, however am familiar with online fulfillment processes.

                  • +1

                    @kerfuffle: Did they sack you?

                    online fulfillment processes.

You fulfill me just by posting.

                    • @Scab: Maybe! ;) No, moved into a different industry :)

Will miss my staff discount a lot :'(

                      • @kerfuffle: What industry are you in?

And did you keep the DJ's uniform, always had a thing for those uniforms?

                        • @Scab: Education

You know it's just black (business) clothes if you want to pretend you're a DJs person :P

  • Has anyone who ordered online with delivery received any shipping updates?
I've heard nothing since placing the order Monday night.

    • Update, just received shipping notification, took 5 days to ship but can't complain about the price.

  • I see David Jones only just changed the price on their website from $199 back to $599

    • +1

Because the warehouse has sold out; should still be able to get it for $199 if you go in store until the mid season sale finishes in a few weeks’ time

      • Back to $199 again, must have located some more stock.

  • Still available in store. Just picked one up from the David Jones Robina store.

  • I bought one of these and it came last Wednesday, today it gives me an error to check the capsule container: "It seems your capsule container is misplaced or full. Please check it and try again".
Did a factory reset and all the likely gubbins. It heats up just fine, you can tell when your put your finger down where the capsule normally goes.
I've had 5 capsules through the machine, it's in perfect physical condition. I wonder what a coffee free morning and a phone call to Nespresso will do for my health tomorrow? ;)
Edit: A slightly burnt electric smell if you put your face near the capsule hole, like the expressor motor is burnt out, oh oh!
