Best bang for buck mid-high end drone on the market. Try 2k 60fps if you don't specifically need 4k (which is only 30fps), it's much nicer to watch.

    • Yep, I dont think you'll find a better value for money drone with these features.
Also, looks like they dont make/sell the 1080P version anymore. It was usually about $100 less than the 4K version.

try using code de64c2 from Australian warehouse - now comes down to $607.40

    • Dam I remember when I purchased one under $500 just under a year ago.
These taxes are killing it. :/

Awesome drone pretty much on par with the mavic apart from size.

        Damn it Harvey Norman

I have both, don't buy the gimbal stick it is a POS. it's loud, hard to control and looks like a sex toy

      • (˵ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°˵)

  • I got one of these last year, great drone for the money

    • what range are you able to get?

      • +1

a lot of obstacles then 1km…
if not then i would say 2km

        • thanks!

I've seen 5.5 but that was pushing it.

        • The drone flyer in the video at the end seemed to have something on this controller, maybe a range extender-if you can get those?

EDIT: Looks like they are, based on the Youtube comments

      • I've never pushed it, but legally you're supposed to have line of sight to the drone, you can't see it more than 400m or so.

If you're a bad boy and want to break the law, you'd get a couple of kms out of it anecdotally…

        • It depends how good your eyesight is and the size of drone. This bird is quite a bit larger than a mavic so you should be able to see it quite a distance further.

@BargainKen: Ive got perfect 20/20 vision, I highly doubt you'd see much more than 500m unless you're superman

            • @damop: That's good to know, have you flown this drone at range before?

  • Got one of these last year too. Amazing for the price! If you are umming and arring, just get it. Still on original props. Delivery took a while as usual, but worth it.

Love mine. I was really impressed with it. Up there with my Xiaomi vacuum as an amazing, low cost device with build quality and features to rival the market leaders.

It's obviously modelled after the DJI Phantom. I wish that they'd do their own version of a folding drone a la Mavic.

  • For a 4k video and that price… it's awesome… fast drone…

  • I was in their Xiaomi Hong Kong store on friday and couldn't find this drone - else most likely would have purchased it.
However, a little disappointing that they haven't really updated it with newer models / designs or specifications to challenge DJI really.

    • That's because its a beginner drone targeted at the budget user, there's not really much to alter. Its competition was the Phantom 3 which DJI discontinued. I would say its better than a P3 as you have better resolution/range. Only product DJI have in this price is the spark which is also a good beginner drone, but lacks in flight time, 3axis gimbal and stuck at 1080p. One downside is the drone is a bit noisy and attention grabbing. Most would go for the spark due to the sheer size difference.

The drone itself is only branded by Xiaomi, its actually built and supported by a company called "Fimi". All up a good drone for those who want 4k and to dip their toe in the water before splurging on more expensive drones.

    • opens box * flies * hits ground first time * bang * no good *
  • Is this good for people photography?

  • Is the shipping insurance worth it? Anyone have experience with Bang Good shipping insurance?

  • be aware that if you live anywhere near an airport, that this won't even take off. there are no capabilities to update the geofencing either at least when i had one.
ended up needing to charge back via visa. that was gearbest though.

Announced last week the NFZ system has been updated to permit user override.

      • ah fair enough i stand corrected. wasted about 2 months of my life trying to get it sorted :)

    • The official CASA app will show you all of the no fly zones. Worth a look before buying a drone.

  • Also don't forget 8% refund via shopback or cashrewards at the moment - totally worthwhile for this amount!!

    • Thanks for the info, "Cash reward" and "Shop Back" which one is better? not sure which to register. I am new user. Cheers.

      • Cashrewards seems to have a more comprehensive breakdown of the % rebate tiers, so I'd go for them.

Remember to use a referral code.

        • What is the benefits of using referral code? I didn’t know and I registered without any. I got $19.82 from this drone purchase from “cash rewards”, not 8% as stated for some reasons.

  • All the comments made me wanna buy one, tempted…

    • I just did. It’s a gift for my brother. Not a bad price consider it’s slightly cheaper than official Xiaomi website in China. Which is 2999 CNY.

And if cash reward works, that’s another $48 cash back. Not sure, I am new user to these cash reward things.

  • A bit off topic but what will yo suggest for a good $200 drone?

Young man saved enough to buy one and want one with descent flight time, camera and distance. I know it's maybe a far stretched wish list BUT maybe there is something out there?

    • As much as this sounds like a good idea, my opinion don't spend less money than this Mi drone. The cheap ones have dodgy GPS (if they have GPS at home), not return to home.

Most of the posts of kids on social media losing their drones would be the cheaper ones. Id find it quite difficult to lose my Mi Drone due to the GPS, auto take off/landing and RTH button. Also when I first used it, i didnt read the manual so I smashed it down from quite a distance (my fault not drone), and it was fine.

If your kid loses one or it breaks, the replacement would have paid for just going the more expensive one. My 2c anyway mate

    • The DJI Trello may be worth a look. It's really nothing like the Xiaomi drone listed here though.

  • A great budget drone if you need to purchase one today! Although it really hurts to see that you could get this well under $500 a year ago…

Xiaomi need to make their own folding mavic-like drone!

    • +1

Yep, I got one at this price in the end last year. Backpack is about $40 but well worth it. I am keeping my eye out for a spare battery though, unfortunately these don't seem to have come down in price much.

  • Pulled the trigger on the drone this morning. Looks like this deal has expired this afternoon.
