I'll be a old man before another flagship 7&8 inch tablet comes out ;-; , they are the perfect size for youtube at home

    • -1

Won't happen, phones are gonna start pushing towards these screen sizes.

      • Uhh 7&8 is the size of a one page book , phablets cant be used as one page books

        • Have you heard of the upcoming samsung galaxy device thats gonna have a foldable screen?

  • Damn! Signed up to this a week ago.

Don't count on the headphone redemption, seems Samsung are really dragging their feet there and I'm not expecting to get anything from them.

    • I just signed up a week ago too. Just wondering they will allow us to "upgrade" to this plan

      • I can confirm that I just upgrade mine from data sim only to the tab s4 plan via online chatting, make sure they kept the bundle 10 off though as the first person won’t let me keep the bundle discount, good luck.

  • Would this work with the $0 post paid Optus had about 2 yrs ago?

    • Yes… ask the service person to link to the account you want to share data with….I got one in the car as a mobile WiFi, pretty sure it is the same $0 sim.

  • This one or the iPad 2018?
In Apple's world I omly have a Macbook.

  • Was considering these deals to replace home internet, until I saw those excess charges in the iPad thread.

    • +2

Why not set a mobile data limit to stop just less than 200Gb? That should avoid any potential for excess.

      • For people putting the SIM card into a wifi hotspot, it is not easy to set that limit.

        • +1

I call this a dirty tactic from the big telcos - there cannot be any tech difficulty to stop the data overuse - prepaid one does that the moment you reach your limits - the only explantion could only be greedy and couting on people's error…

        • +1

You can download optus app, and check your balance from there. It will show up how many gb data have you been use and how many left with refreshment every 15 seconds. It is that easy, people just need to learn and be aware.

          • @Alexander420: Accidents happen. You might end up with a bill in the hundreds if your gaming console or PC was on auto updates.

            • @Julius:

You might end up with a bill in the hundreds if your gaming console or PC was on auto updates.

It's $10 per extra GB. Would a gaming console or PC download tens of gigs of updates? :)

              • @eug: Yes it would! Have you seen how big game updates can be?

                • +1

Oh, you were talking about game updates. When you mentioned PC I thought you were referring to OS updates for both.

Why would you turn on auto updates if you got yourself a 4G connection with the full knowledge that it's $10/GB for excess usage though? Isn't that like saying you might get fined hundreds of dollars if you drove over the speed limit? If you do get fined, whose fault is it? :)

                  • @eug: Doesn't matter whose fault it is. What matters is the results and here you could potentially end up with a very large bill. As I said, accidents happen.

                      As I said, accidents happen.

If you just want the data, you could run the Tab S4 as a wifi hotspot. That way you can set a limit. Or just buy an old Galaxy S6 for that purpose, even.

You can also tether the phone or tablet to your computer and share the connection with the rest of your network.

                      • @eug: Now that is helpful advice. Cheers! Are there any limits to tethering on the Optus network? Also, any damage caused to the Tab S4 battery by plugging it in for 24/7?

                      • @eug: I actually ditch my home broadband and use mobile hotspot only. Since i don't play game and I check optus app everyday, there hasn't been any accident for me after close to 1 year. Not once.

@Alexander420: With the current speed, 15 seconds mean a few hundred. Count in your reaction speed, I think some additional GB might already been consumed :-(
Unless we can have a tool to read that automatically and limit our usage

            • @Averell:

With the current speed, 15 seconds mean a few hundred. Count in your reaction speed, I think some additional GB might already been consumed :-(

What kind of speeds are you actually getting?

              • @eug: I'm in Sydney, nor sure how far from the tower I am, but my download speed usually from 10MByte/s or more. So less than 100s and $10 has gone.

            • +1

@Averell: @averell i am on optus 200gb data, and using netgear aircard to tether them. Usually a message will pop out too if it have been reached 50, 85, 100% of usage data. That may help? I barely use 50gb per cycle.

              • @Alexander420: What router are you using to tether the aircard, apparently my tp link doesn’t work that way…

                • @tif1607: @tif1607 i used telstra aircard 810s, that itself doesnt need a router and works like a champ. I got 90/20 most of the times.

                  • @Alexander420: I’m using 800s and only get around 60/20 and my iPhone X get around 120/40, would have thought cat9 is going to be faster but it’s not the case….usb dongle on my TP-Link is around 40/15 and that is good enough since my area still don’t have nbn yet….

Sorry guys in Melbourne CBD. I just physically picked up the last 256gb version from an optus shop.

    • I know it's been mentioned previously, but could you also please confirm it is $60/mth for the 256gb?

      • +1

Yes it is. $60 plan + 0 for the 256gb version. Its on the optus website when you select it. Its just out of stock(and End of life) because most people just bought the 64gb version and added SD card.

  • 256 option is gone from the website.

  • I don't see the option to select current optus customer to get extra $10 off? Where is it?

  • Thanks op, got 256G one in the morning.

    • +2

Did you get it in store?

    • Which store is that?

  • This morning they gonna charge me $52.5 which is calculated from (80-10)*0.75, not $50. Does anyone have the same circumstance?

    • Same as mine

    • They’re doing the wrong calculations…. should get the discount on the full $80 and then get $10 discount…. not get the discount $10 first then 25% if $70 !! Discount 101 - “always get the % discount on the largest cost.”

  • I just bought the 256GB in store at Optus Merryland. I didn't ask how many left they had in stock.
I asked about the extra $10 discount and the guy said you already got 25% discount. No more discount. Is it true? Or will I get extra $10 in my invoice? I got the $60/month for 200GB data.

    • I can’t handle sale Personel arbitrarily decide what discount to give.. they simply need to honor store wide discounts…. definitely contact support if discount is not applied on your bill.

      • So it definitely should be extra $10 discount?

        • There is a big campaign about the $10 discount… there’s no exclusion clauses about the 25% discount… so definitely yes…

          • @Sevenofnine: ok thanks, I'll definitely contact support if discount not applied.

  • Interesting, used that stock checker link (thanks). Said there were some available at Innaloo (WA). Went there and they checked, said none available and end of life (like others). To top it off, he referred me to plans on their display iPad, which said the deal was $80/month too.

    • +2

Yes, same here yesterday, I went to Forest Hill VIC (checker link said stock available), their displayed ipad shows $80, while they used their pc to check, it was $60, however they didn't have stock.

    • The stock checker is inaccurate. I think it will say available at many places but there is actually no stock. I went to Murray st yesterday and they too have no stock but they checked their system and found probably the last one in Booragoon which I went today and got it.

Found stock at local Harvey Norman store, [S4 256GB BLACK] https://www.harveynorman.com.au/samsung-galaxy-tab-s4-10-5-i…

lady at HN very helpful sign me up today. got check with online chat, got $80 plan stated on my account, and applied 25% on top , also $10 bundls include with iphone x regional plan.

It makes 400.5GB total , say goodbye to telstra NBN.

    • But the 256 GB is no longer available online at optus, how exactly did you get the deal again? Didnt know HN can match like that.

Edit: nvm, WA HN got no stock

      • +1

First, I found my local HN have stock,( or near HN has stock, and my local store will help me transfer stock from other near HN store)
Second, the HN lady got my infomation (100 points ID, mobile number, email etc.) she called to optus signed me up on the phone.
At the end, if the store has stock, u can go home with new tablet and invoice for JBL redeemtion . or you will wait for stock transfer, but you sim card should be already to go .

I got text message from optus on spot. with confirmation and order detail. second message stated "Hi thanks for adding Decice Credit Charges and 25% Discount for 24 months to your optus service. Your order reference number is :XXXXXXXXXXX."

I chatted with online team tonight. confirmed $10 bundle credit.

So $80 plan on account, shows min total cost $1920, then 25% discount $1440, then $10 total $1200. online chat told me like this.

there are still stock in TAS: Cambridge Park 7170, Devonport 7310. didn't check other states. good luck.

        • I also signed up from local Harvey Norman with the 256gb but I was told I will be charged 60 dollars per month not 50 as I needed to sign up to a new phone plan too(I already have a phone plan with Optus). They were trying to to upgrade my plan with a s9 but I decided not to as I would need to pay payout fees for my current phone. How to get the other 10 dollars off? Any ideas ?

          • @Safoan: as long as your mobile and MBB on same bill, you will get $10off. Check with online chat or wait to your next bill

            • @GAMBOL: Just confirmed with online chat. All good. Thanks for the help.

        • Did you transfer stock from TAS to Melbourne ?

    • I don't understand how you got the 400.5GB? My FTTN is worse than the adsl2+ I had before so this would be perfect (to make it worse I'm the first street where they stopped fttp and changed to node). My local Harvey Norman has stock and is holding one for 24 hours so any help in getting something similar would be greatly appreciated.

i had optus regional plan on iphone x from https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/395908?page=2#comment-6273…
this get me 200GB data , also when I activated number share for apple watch. it is extra 500MB

plus this s4 deal 200GB. total 400.5GB. cost me $85+$50=$135

        • Thanks, that makes sense.

        • Including 2 top of range mobile devices… true Ozbargainer…

          • @Sevenofnine: Almost the same situation. Regional optus plan for note 9 ($84) and then this tab s4.

Sold the note 9 so I reduced my effective monthly charge to less than $28 for 200gb.

Total of $78 for 400gb. Ditched NBN as I was paying $79 for unlimited 50/20.

    • Wow, if you sell your tablet, you basically get free 200gb p/m internet for 2 years.

      • yes, waiting for headphone first , then sell both . Just cancel my telstra NBN casual plan from JB HIFI DEAL.
will be use this data sim card on B315s-607 as home internet.

        • Can anyone pls confirm if Optus 4G sim card will work on this modem B315s-607? It looks like this modem is given by vividwireless and I can't find any info if it supports Optus 4G. Thanks in advance

          • @darkcolony: I am use this optus sim card on B315s-607 no problem , but speed may limited, depends your local optus band.

            • @GAMBOL: What speed are you getting on the B315s-607? Versus speed you getting on say mobile / tablet on the same network? How much speed are you losing? Thanks

              • +1

@gutenmuach: It really depends on your location, my place only have band28 , I had test on different devices:

                huawei B315s-607 10-20Mbps download 5-15Mbps upload
                optus E5573 10-20Mbps download 5-15Mbps upload
                telstra netgear 810s 10-35Mbps download 5-15Mbps upload
                telstra netgear M1 10-35Mbps download 5-15Mbps upload
About 800-1000m away from Optus tower tried different spots at home, as metal roof, so blocked some signal inside house. day and night a bit different.

also tried launceston kings Meadow area with different band3 , if I remember correct

                telstra netgear 810s 95-150Mbps download 38-50Mbps upload
iPhone SE. 95-197Mbps download 38-50Mbps upload.

  • Thanks OP!

  • Well I went to Harvey Norman and sign one up and apparently according to Optus Harvey norman rep over the phone said that they cannot stack the 25% discount with $10/month off for combining existing service. They refer me to T&C which says "The discount is not available with other mobile broadband discounts." https://www.optus.com.au/promotions/bundles/10-dollar-discou…

How do you guys get the $10 off??

    • try optus store, i got $50/month deal from there, if you have a plan with optus you should be able to get $10 off anyway.

      • All good just had online chat and confirmed $50/month all together after all discounts for 256gb version.

        • 256GB is out of stock online. I tried a few stores in Melbourne and none of them had them in stock. You'll have to live with 64GB and an SD card.

          • @sacs2k1: I got my 256gb from Harvey Norman. All good.

          • @sacs2k1: Can't you ask optus store to backorder it? From previous comments seems like someone able to do so.

  • Does anyone know if Optus will start stocking the 256gb version? or are they phasing that out ?

    • They are phasing them out as per others comments in here.

    • Yeah it's now EOL. I think they will have something for the new ipad pro though but I dont think it will be so cheap since iPads will cost more.

      • $50 for 200gb and essentially you are getting tablet for free. Too hard to pass.

  • Went to the Optus store earlier and the 256gb tablet is for $80 per month with 200gb. Would this be correct?

The store I went to cannot match or do the online dealy fro the 64gb for $60.

    • The offer is 25% off… and it is not exclusively online…. so you should pressed for that and get the $480 saving over the 2 years. The 256gb is no longer on offer… so will have to take the 64gb one

      • +2

Thanks OP put in a instore order last Thursday Sydney CBD for 256gb, got a call today and they said EOL is it ok to send out 64gb, refused and they cancelled order. He said check stores for stock, found a harvey norman that said they had stock of 256gb drove an hour and when I got there they said its an error XSA stock last one not OPT stock, sales guy made the effort called talked to Optus some how managed to do the bundle deal for $50 non branded stock, over the moon 😁 saves me using Odin.. now to redeem JBL headset 🙂

        • +1

great job man, you earned it with your effort. :)

    • Which store is this one?

    • I had no issues getting the 256GB Tab S4 for $60 / month in store. Had to travel a bit since only a few stores still have stock and those who do only have like 1 unit in stock.

  • -1

Damn didn't realise you can do an online order! Could've got the 256gb if I did it

  • +2

Just received my first bill and can confirm I am being charge $50/month altogether.

  • Anyone know if the device is locked to Optus or not?

    • I haven't seen any non-prepaid device - phone or tablet - that has been locked to any network in at least 10 years. Has anyone actually come across a locked phone or tablet that isn't prepaid, which costs money to unlock?

At one stage Vodafone were locking some devices but providing the unlock code for free on http://vodafone.com.au/unlock. That seemed like a waste of time. :)

    • If you obtain it from Harvey Norman, its a retail version.

  • Despite showing stock at Queen street brisbane, they have no 256gb and also told me the $60 deal was $80 per month. Then when I mentioned it's on the website, they said it must be online only lol

  • +1

Anyone have their jbl headphone redemption approved?
Would like to know if the photo required of serial needs to be of the tablet itself or will just the sticker on the box suffice?
Prefer not to open as I'm intending on selling.

    • Mines approved based on the box photo.

      • Thanks cloudie

  • +3

    Extended to 18/11 now

  • Anyone had any issues with redemption of headphones? I've sent photo of box and copy of receipt from Optus, yet Samsung insist that I take a screenshot of the IMEI. I've already sold the Tab on Ebay (the buyer obviously can't take up the headphone offer). Any advice?
