I heard about this over the intercom while I was at work today so unfortunately I couldn't get many details on it but if someone could elaborate in the comments it would be great.

I'm guessing somewhat of a basic Nokia phone, not sure on the company the recharge is with though. I'm working tomorrow so I can check the deal and update accordingly during my break.

This was for Woolworths at Springwood. Not sure if it's available at other stores.

  • dont you think this should of been posted in the forums, since there are plenty of details lacking?

    • Yep, I apologise for this but I should have more details in a few hours when I go into work.

Mods, feel free to delete this if you feel that it would be better posted in the forums.

  • Hmm I think I saw this in a catalogue. Not a fancy phone, but good enough for backup.

yes i can confirm this, got one for my old man, model is Nokia 1616, basic phone no 3g/wifi/gps/touchscreen etc but it does have speakerphone and radio, it is a bargain because just yesterday i saw this exact phone in a phone shop was selling for $49 unlocked and that's with no calls included!

A snip from the catalogue - hope it helps!

  • It's a recharge with which network? Is the phone locked?

    • Kinda sure it's locked to Vodafone so the usual rules apply: recharge over the value of $xxx or pay $xxx to get it unlocked~

  • is it just at woolworths or can u get this at a vodafone store?

  • Based on that pic, I'm fairly sure it's the same phone that we bought as backups a couple of months back for about $40 or $50 (unlocked). Good little phone, easy enough to use and lightweight.

  • Is this a $29 per month?
It would be great if it were $29 for 365 day recharge as an emergency phone.

I bet the first recharge runs out after a month. After that you may be able to switch to 365 day. Makes a great temp phone for a visitor, reli, etc. though.

  • Most stores have no stock by now.

    • Woolworths Springwood still has several boxes left. They sold about 15 yesterday.

  • this is more expensive then $0 plan with caps?

  • A lot of stores in our area (North West Melbourne), ordered them a month or so ago, and many of them still haven't received stock. I spent 20 minutes calling about 7-8 stores for customers at work this morning that gave the same response.

  • just pick one up good spare phone as we all have vodafone at home

I bought Nokia 1800, which is almost identical with this Nokia 1616, from Amazon China one month ago for about $29, unlocked. It has basic features that you would like a phone to have. I am pretty happy with the phone actually. Not sure about how Vodafone charges per minute for pre-paid card though.

  • Hmm I'm still using a Nokia 8310 (from 2002) on a Telstra plan (non-contract). Would this be a worthwhile upgrade for me or not?

  • I bought this same phone from K-Mart for $29 recently. Very reliable, long battery life and simple to use mobile!
