Just be aware if you go via Melbourne there's I think a 6 or 9 hour layover in Nadi airport and NOTHING to do (and the lounge doesn't open until 7am I don't think)

  I booked a flight with a 14 hour layover which is enough time to head out for a couple of hours, book a day stay in the local hotel, take a shower, nap etc.
  So i get to visit Fiji for the day, and take a really cheap flight to the US.

  Did it a few years back. 6 hours in a dull lounge. But hey, come prepared with laptop or podcasts and nowhere is too bad. You're still in an airport!
