The COGS are very low on these cheap plastic headphones.

  • Anyone comment on whether it’s worth to get this instead of Bose qc35ii. I bought the Bose recently but still unopened, thinking whether it’s worth to sell the Bose and get this instead, hard decision…..

    • +1

this is superior to bose, in any aspects.

      • +5

this is superior to bose, in any aspects.

Apart from the Bose's ability to connect to two devices simultaneously. My QC 35 II connects to my tablet and phone at the same time. I can use them both, and do so regularly at work and on bus. It's the only reason that I'm not buying the Sony.

Many people may not require this, but in this regard (and possibly only this) the Bose is definitely superior.

        • Would you hear audio from 2 devices at the same time? Wouldn't that be annoying?

          • @lostn: No. I don't play audio from two devices at the same time. But if I'm on my tablet, and I get a message on my phone, I can just hit the Google Assistant button, and it will read the message out to me.

Or if I've been listening to music on my phone, and decide to watch a video on my tablet, I can just do that, without having to go to bluetooth settings on my phone and disconnect, then connect my tablet, before proceeding.

I'm not saying that it's something that everyone does, but for me it would be very annoying to lose that functionality.

            • @t3chshopper: If you're playing something on tablet, then someone rings your phone, does the tablet continue playing the music during your call?

And the headphone buttons.. which device will it control? Both? How do you tell it to pause one device only? If you press it to pause Dev1 will it also resume the last track on Dev2?

For me it would be the exact same but in reverse. I'd have to disconnect one device just so I don't hear it. I prefer one device at a time, else I can't tell which sound is coming from which device.

    • I've only tried them in stores but I find the Sony's to be a bit more on the chunky side. The Bose seemed a bit more streamlined, if that matters to you.

    • +3

      Sony have better sound.
Bose are more comfortable, have better connectivity to multiple Bluetooth devices and Google Assistant.

So it depends on how you intend to use the headphones.

      • +1

The Sony has Google Assistant too

      • I tried both on and think they are about the same - comfort wise, however the Sony has bigger ear pieces so they don't squash your ears as much as the Bose… so I guess that makes the Bose not quite as comfy if that matters to you.

  • Should I or shouldn't I :(

  • Can anyone who owns these comment on how effective the NC is in an open plan office environment?

    • If it is the same as Bose as what people are saying, it will not totally cancel voices from people talking. You can still hear them but much much lower sound. I am commenting about the Bose, the NC is generally good for a noisy environment such as in the Bus, plane, or office where people like to talk.

    • +1

It won't shut out all noise. But will soften it. In tandem with what you're listening to, if someone calls you, they will likely have to tap you on the shoulder to get your attention.

  • OP, Can you do a special on your Sony Walkmans?

    • People still use walkmans?

      • If you ever listen to music on a dedicated DAC instead of your smartphone, you will notice a difference.

  • Almost no margin in the players to be honest! Our discounts are already quite good on them :(

    • How long will the A&K sale be around for?

Really trying to convince the missus that I need the 380 to replace my "aging" Kann. Have never seen the price drop so much for it.

      • +1

It is a limited stock sale, they will last while there is stock - the AK380 copper, AK100-II and AK70 already sold out :(

  • Hows the battery life of these?

    • Very good! rated at 30 hours.

  • +2

At this rate, these are going to be free by Xmas…

    • Hmmm I bought mine three weeks ago at $354.20 delivered. I guessed the price was close to the bottom of the price cycle - perhaps $349 is and the forecasts of an even lower purchase price in the Black friday sales just might not materialise.

  • +1

Next week: "Buy 1 get 1 free" lol

  • Cost price on these for retailers is $220 as far as I know

    • +2

Definitely much higher than that! I wish we would be able to get that kind of cost.

    • -1

      $220 prob for JB…

      • $300ish I'd say. Rule of thumb is ~ 40% below the recommended selling price of electrical goods.

  • Sony wants to phase Bose out by aggressive price. Let's see what will Bose propose in response.

    • -1

      Nothing most likely.

      • I guess I will pull the trigger to buy a XM3 if it drops to $299 during black Friday:D

        • +1

          Which it won't….

These kind of prices are the best you are going to get for 2018 i'm afraid.

          • -1

@serpserpserp: I am asking if David Jones can price match this and use their gift card tho. Their retail price is stubbornly high at $499.

            • @BennyHe2018: Lemme know bro

              • @smuggler: DJ rejected to price match ATA's price with coupon because they just accept the advertised price without coupon. See you, David Jones.

  • How are these compared to the sennheiser momentum wireless from a few years back?

  • Just sold my Bowers and Wilkins PX for these. PX is a better quality but just too uncomfortable to wear.

    • The sound quality of PX is better than the XM3?
I found the PX's bass too weak compared to the XM3.

  • Has anyone price matched at JB Hi-fi?

  • Can someone post receipt from Harvey Norman?. Thanking you in advance.

  • Are Sony NC automatically turn off if there is no audio source connected or playing? I have a Sony NC works like this and never bother to look for another Sony NC since then

    • +2

Looks like you can modify/disable it through the Sony App on your device

      • hmm not for the ZX780DC though

    • +1

Yes you can disable in the app now!

      • Will the NC work without music playing?

        • Yes it does.

  • Damn man, already have XM2's but this is tempting as LOL

    • You can sell the M2s on ebay and get the M3s :)

      • Prepare to lose a fair chunk to eBay fees (there is targeted promos but you have to call eBay for them to reverse the fees), paypal fees, delivery fees, and if you can an awful buyer, it isn't worth the effort.

        • No way around paypal fees, but ebay fees can be reversed even if they did charge and postage can be paid by the buyer themselves.

how come sony never update their WI-1000X BLUETOOTH NOISE CANCELLING EARPHONES?

    • Don't know what you're talking about. The firmware on mine got updated with "improved performance and Google Assistant".

      • +1

Sony WH-1000XM3 is the 3rd gen now but WI-1000x is still the first gen.

        • Bose followers are asking the same thing about the QC30 (the model most similar to the WI-1000X). Why hasn’t there been an update, at least to fix the many problems that have been reported over the past few years?

  • Addicted to xm3 now

  • Should I pull the trigger on these now? Any chance they will get down to $300 before January? Traveling to the US in Feb & need a pair of cans

  • +1

This one is much better than BOSE. If you turn the noise cancellation off in BOSE, it sounds terrible because the hardware itself is much inferior. It is relying on software EQ to make it sounds good.

Me again here, i commented on almost all M3 deal since last month when I bought one during a deal at around 350.

Again i want to stress out on the fact that this headphone can not connect to multidevice at a time. Today is the 4th time i rush out to school without turning off laptop Bluetooth (M3 is connected to laptop), just when i get out of the house i discover that i can not connect my phone to M3 and have no time to sit down, turn on laptop again, disconnect M3 from laptop, close laptop and put back again in bag and keep rushing to the car driving to school. It's ridiculous and unacceptable that to switch device we have to turn off bluetooth of the connected device than connect to other device. We should connect to phone again before turn on the headphone, or else it will connect automatically again to the laptop! EVEN within the Sony app on phone, we cannot disconnect the headphone from the laptop

I use the headphone intensively 5 hours a day for nearly 3 weeks now, except weekend. I've just discover another problem with the headphone. Im revising for exam and watch the videos of the recorded lecture. When i dont understand sth, I rewind the video like 10s (auto set by VLC video player), then still not understand, then 1 time again. Sometime after 2 or 3 time, the audio is disconnected to the headphone. Here nothing help to have audio again. I have to turn off the video and open the file again to have it normally.

The other side of the coin is that audio quality seems to be better than QC 35 II, NAC is much better. Longtime wearing not causing any problem but I can still feel the bulk on head vs QC 35 (which i sold before buying this M2). Battery can go easily 5 days.

    • +3

Well you COULD do it the long way, OR you could just hold down the power button on the headphones until it goes into pairing mode, then just pair it to whatever device you want again.

The whole multi-device pairing thing is useful, but mostly overstated by the few people with an issue with it

      • Thanks, that's really useful to know because Bluetooth pairing is usually mentioned as the one area in which the Bose has an unquestionable advantage over these. I've read a few reviews (including the above comment) that claimed that if the headphones were paired with a laptop that's been switched off, they weren't able to pair it with another device without powering up the laptop and disconnecting it, which would obviously be a major pain, but what you wrote seems consistent with online manual that says you just need to hold down the power switch for 7 seconds. Sounds like they didn't RTFM?

How about multipoint pairing though? This seems designed to be able to connect the headphones to, say, a Walkman (for music) and a phone (for calls) at the same time. Does it also work with a laptop and a phone?

      • The whole multi-device pairing thing is useful, but mostly overstated by the few people with an issue with it

I'm one of the people with an issue with it. I'm not sure what you mean by overstating. It's a big issue for the way that I've come to use my Bose. I often switch between my tablet and phone a number of times in a 30 minute period. I don't even think about it. I'll just pause a video on my tablet, and pick up my phone to do something, then go back to my tablet.

I don't get why Sony would leave this functionality out, when it's obviously available, in 2018.

        • +1

Exactly. Its not like its going to cost sony that much more to implement.

          Its so convenient.

        • By "overstated" I mean it's a useful function, but it's one a lot of people will never use, or use a few times and forget about it. Meanwhile people like Sonca carry on that it's a massive inconvenience because they have some convoluted process for changing devices when it there's a simpler way, especially with so many NFC capable devices around the place. As he said, he's posted that long-winded story in every 1000XM3 post on this site for the last month or so, and it's a story that wouldn't exist if he thought it through.

I get it, it's a handy function, and it's one that's appearing in more and more devices. For most it's unlikely to be a deal breaker, some people just want a set of good quality ANC headphones to listen to tunes on.

EDIT: I also get the feeling a few Bose fanboys go on about it in an attempt to mask the fact Sony overtook them in this market.

          • @dav3: Right. I will say that I would have already bought the Sony XM3s, falsely assuming that they have two-device connectivity, if it weren't for a comment here on Ozbargain alerting me to the fact.

Fair enough - it always happens. I for am no Bose fanboy - if anything, I'm really annoyed by Sony's ommission as I like everything I've heard about the Sony's other than this! I'd happily swap to the XM3 if not for this.

            • @t3chshopper: No offense, but it wouldn't be Sony's fault if you threw $400ish at a pair of headphones without doing any research, if the whole multi-device thing was a specific requirement

        • I think only a minority of users want the function, but obviously those are unhappy with something missing are going to be more vocal about it. In my case, I would want to disable it if it was available.

    • will that be a firmware update to enable multi device connect?

I know what you are saying, the other day I sat a papa rich doing my work on the chromebook whike drinking a teh tarik (mf15) and listening to youtube on the chromebook and taking phonecalls via the bose, I can't be without that function.

      • 1 media, 1 communication protocol for Sony XM2/3.

  • Hmmm Black or Silver they both do look good on the head!! Early Xmas present to myself ^_^

    • Black. Silver stands out too much unless that is what you want.

  • Just sold my QC35 last week to get this. No regrets!

    • How much does a used QC35 go for nowadays?

      • They've held their value really well for some reason. People are still willing to pay $300 for a pre owned Series 1.

  • How are these for gaming or watching tv as well??

    • If they are excellent for music, why would gaming or tv be any different?

      • Because of latency? According to this review, they're not the best in this respect: "These headphones have about 224ms of latency. They're about average for most Bluetooth headphones though and have slightly less latency when using aptX, but at 200ms they still won't be the ideal choice for watching movies and gaming."

    • Haven't tried, but wired no problem apparently. Wireless, depends how sensitive you are - it's passable for some supposedly.

  • +2

Keep it up universe! Lower that price even more on the one thing I bought that I didnt expect to drop this quick or this much! How about you give some discount love to all the other stuff I want but didnt buy because expensive! I'm going to go cry for a bit. Also buy this if you're interested. They are glorious.

  • -5

Hi I literally bought a pair in store less than a week ago (5 days to be precise), am I able to request a refund of the difference at the store?

    • +1

      lol are you serious?

      • -1

Why would I be joking? Dell offers a cash guarantee.

        • Yeah but that's Dell, a 50 billion dollar multinational company. You wouldn't expect that from a small business.

    • +1

Use a CC with shoppers protection next time, like 28D.

      • +1

Thank you for providing the first intelligent response. Appreciated.

  • Just bought + TRS = $314.

    Woop.

  • Can do TRS? Cheers

  • All I can do is look on with envy. The last one I bought with these guys was the great and beautiful AK Jr. and I bet this headphone or the Bose would go great with it. Kudos for prompt delivery BTW.

Dam these darn other commitments :(

  • Can I TRS if I am going on a RCA cruise?

  • Are these good for TV? Any audio lag?

  • +2

Also wrote this on the Bose deal:

I've got both this and the SonyXM3, wife uses the Bose.

If you're only concerned about sound quality, the Sony wins.

If you're looking for all round comfort and connectivity ease, Bose wins hands down.

    NC is good on both.

If I had to choose which one to use to and from work, around the office, Bose wins.

If I'm sitting at home chilling, Sony wins.

    There you go.

  • Can someone who has managed to Price Match these with Harvey Norman please message me a copy of their receipt?

I live in Darwin and would like to purchase them in person.

    Wanting to purchase.
