Apple Watch Series 3 - 38mm Space Grey Aluminium Case with Black Sport Band - GPS $398 ($348 with AmEx Cashback) @ Harvey Norman

150

Looking to use the original HN AMEX deal on something. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/403805

With the Apple Watch Series 4 coming out, HN look to have decent prices on the Series 3. With the AMEX deal in the mix it works out to be $348.

Thinking about getting one for the missus. I've read some reviews and I'm not convinced the difference in price between Series 4 and Series 3 is worth going the latest version. Free shipping popped up with Shipster when I dropped it onto my cart.

Open to being convinced otherwise (by ozbargin - not my wife).

I don't believe the AMEX offer is comparable with Apple purchases from HN

    • Buy gift card first via Amex?

I have used it 2 weeks ago. No issue. Just use your registered Amex card to pay. I have already got back $50. Good deal if you have registered Amex.

I can confirm that they can't tell what you're buying. I bought my wife an apple watch last time they had this deal, just pops up on the AMEX as a purchase from HN - no detail on what it was.

    • Bought an Apple TV 4K and two powerbanks as gifts last Saturday. $50 credit came in this morning.

    Hurry up always on display

Looks at my 2014 LG Watch from 2014 with always on display. Shrugs.

Make sure to check them out next to each other. My key points:
    1) The new display makes a huge difference. A lot more screen estate and a much more refined look with the screen following the rounded corners of the bezel (less geeky).
    2) The new version is noticeably thinner - it may be minimal looking at the specs but again, it’s a much more elegant look on your wrist.
    2) The new sizes work better for me - the new smaller size is more unisex (so no longer just for girls).
    4) As with any upgrade, it’s also the hardware which makes it more appealing (if not for now, definitely more future proof).

To me, smart watches are too new of a category to buy last year’s tech. It’s like buying an iPhone 3GS if you can get an iPhone 4 instead.

I may end up buying the new version from HN, split over 2 AmEx to get a $100 discount.

I think the question is whether the differences you listed justify a 60%ish jump in price.

I imagine for most people it wouldn't…

      • Depends, I’ve had my watch for 3-4 years now and it’s worth every dollar

      • Sure, that’s why I was recommending to check them out in real life, next to each other. If my maths don’t fail me, the options are $350 for the S3 (after $50 AmEx credit) or possibly $500 for the S4 (after 2x $50 credit).

Yep, was just pointing out the large difference in cost as your post didn`t mention it and I felt most people would find that more of a determining factor than the things you did bring up.

And I did my cost estimate based on just one $50 cashback on each model, as I assumed most people wouldn't have 2 amex's enrolled in this deal.

Isn’t $399 is the standard watch 3 price now?

    • perhaps the deal is for AMEX members?

      • Well didn't get Targeted this time with HN deal, FML!
