Alienware 15 R4 15.6" Gaming Laptop (128GB) $2,199 ($500 off) @ JB Hi-Fi

Ive been checking out gaming laptops this week and came across this, which makes this Alienware rig not too badly priced, comparable to anything at Metabox

May be of interest to some, and not to others..

    • The 1060 kinda kills it tbh

If it came with a 1070 id say this would be a steal

I thought the 128GB was the RAM :-)

Still $300 more than equivalent Metabox.

With an operating system though? I cant get a metabox for less than $100 difference to this price with a 1060.

1070's are still at a premium in laptops as well, definitely my preference but around $500 extra as an upgrade from memory

      • Linux is free! And you might be able to get Windows through uni/work (Microsoft Imagine).

You can buy windows 10 for like 5 bucks on ebay. Sure, grey market keys but still 5$. OR you can use windows inactivated if you dont mind the watermark/ not being able to set a background.

With Windows 10 Home, 16GB RAM, 1TB 7200RPM HDD (in addition to the 500GB SSD).

        $1,871.00

That's with a better SSD, probably better HDD and very slightly worse GPU (1060, not overclocked like the alienware - I would steer clear of OC'd laptops anyway, in my experience they always end up overheating between 1-3 years after purchase, or get throttled to hell).

If you go base level 1TB and standard 240GB SSD you can shave another 50-60 bucks off it.

      • Hell, you can get a 1070 for the price of the alienware 1060:

Just bump the RAM up to 16 GB, get a $10 Windows key off eBay and Bob's your uncle.

  • I would go for one from Dell clearance

Don't do it!!! Alienware are crap, i own one at the moment. So many hardware clashes!!!

  • If it come with a 4K screen, I would buy.

  • GTX1060 1080p screen you can get those on $1200 laptops. can you even call this a gaming laptop at 60hz?

    • OK, so I don't think this is a great deal either.

BUT… I am yet to see a 1060 laptop at this price point. Care to share the link to this bargain?

      • Look at the Asus deal on here in the Laptop tag. It's upvoted 82 and above

        • Yeah fair point.

I will point out that I was pretty non-specific, the card we're talking about is the 1060 6GB, not the 3GB.

The Asus is still a pretty sweet deal though :)
