[Mac] VideoDrive Personal License US $6.99 (~AU $9.95) @ Aroona Software

10

This is for the Mac users of iTunes or Plex out there (sorry - no windows version). Aronasoftware are currently discounting their products. I have been using VideoDrive for years - it's a wonderful product. Has lots of features, and can use handbrake to transcode files and subler to find subtitles - description of some of the features here: https://aroonasoftware.com/VideoDrive/features/

The main reason I use it is the ability to search imdb etc and automatically collect info about a film or tv show that you have, of course, legally downloaded but for whatever reason it doesn't have all the info embedded into the file itself. It changes something like "s04e01-That Show You Like.mp4" into something that can be understood by humans, along with updating things like covers. Most of the time it gets it right, but when it doesn't you can tweak the search fields like title and have it search again. It does batch updating as well - so if you have a whole series of files it will do them all.

I have been using an older version for over 6 years, so when I saw this I jumped. Don't take my word for it, feel free to download the software and try it first - it will do a dozen or so files before you need to register.

  • I just look the show up on tvdb and change the file name accordingly

    • Yep, can do that of course. But if you have a lot of files to update, this does it well. Basically it saves time - can even set it up to watch a specific folder and update files as they appear.

      • Plex does this for me automatically…?

        • In the op's defence, lots of files means this would be faster : for itunes.

Plex does it for me too, and can 'fix match' on plex pretty easily.

The subtitles thing is handy. However I find I have to re-rip some movies so the subtitles becomes embedded in the one mkv / mp4 file or my host imac goes nuts decoding the file every time.
