Blatant item removal and jacking. When will ozB stop encouraging this rubbish?

    • +4

But something I want hasn't been delisted nor jacked and will genuinely be cheapest out of everyone else selling it, so I upvoted?

    • I was hoping that would drop in price again during this 20% as I missed out last time. Not good knowing you haven't collected yet though.

    • Call the store that you selected to collect it from.

They're rather slack in sending out collection emails. I just call the store and they have it ready to pick up within 5 minutes.

      • I have called 3 times and each time I'm getting bs about backorder and calling me when its in stock. Mind you this is the 1st time I've had this issue with them, they're usually good with click and collect orders. Hoping its a 1 off issue.

I too don't see why this is a deal, items get removed, prices get raised.

    • has there been jacks? Can you show some.

The item removal is annoying, i agree.

  • +2

    PJACK20

  • They removed all the good items, left the stuff that wasnt selling and expect us to buy? Yeah Right.

  • +1

Hardly anything left. I'm guessing they mainly want to move the old stock with this sale

  • +3

I'm not sure what is worse (jacking vs removal), but either way this is more like an "outlet" sale. Only the things they are struggling/want to get rid of are 20% off.

    Funny that.

    • +1

At least they should say something like "20% off selected items", right?

      • +1

Exactly! 20% off items we want to palm off lol

  • +2

I like it how they point this out as if simply following the law was something that needed to be pointed out. What's next? Informing us that they won't kidnap while we're in the store?

At the time of this comment this post has 175 + votes & 16 - votes.

OK, I was surprised that this thing got to 175 + votes.
    So I did some digging.

175 people have upvoted it. Out of the 175, only 11 of them posted a comment. These commentators are:
    Jamesx
    iRMonkey
    Colombian
    ashftc
    Skramit
    Hunnypooh
    garffi
    kirt
    WatchNerd
    sTon3r
    doweyy

And out of the 16 down votes, all of them have posted (this being a mandatory requirement of a - vote)

So this means that out of the 175 + votes, 164 of them just did it probably just looking at the headline 20% off, with probably no previous experience of engaging in a Good Guys eBay sale, and/or not intending to see whats on bargain this time.

This attitude works against the ethos of OzB IMO.

C'mon there are more comments in this post who havent voted either way - this just goes to show the displeasure of OzBargainers with previous GG eBay sales.

This is my 2c worth. (take away 20% of that, if you will)

    • +1

The difference is, if you neg, you must post a comment. So you can't really compare.

Edit: nvm you already mentioned that

    • +4

I took your 2c worth and jacked it up by 5c before applying the 20% discount. Got more worth out of it in the end

    • +14

You're making a pretty wild assumption. I voted + because (1) I appreciate the OP going to the trouble of finding and posting the deal, (2) eBay deals have saved me (and others) a tonne of money, and (3) we're free to vote as we please. So no, I didn't just look at the title. I'm sure if you ask others that voted +, they'll most likely say the same. Remember also there have always been great bargains posted as offshoots of the main deal. Each to their own.

This attitude works against the ethos of OzB IMO.

So, can you please explain what you believe the ethos of OzB is/should be? In my opinion, this deal is the very essence of what OzB is about - mixed voting, mixed opinions, stupid comments, great comments. Let's not overcomplicate things. If you believe the deal isn't for you, fair enough. Doesn't mean it's not good for others.

C'mon there are more comments in this post who havent voted either way - this just goes to show the displeasure of OzBargainers with previous GG eBay sales.

I can show you hundreds of very popular posts where commenters haven't bothered to vote. Not voting does not equal displeasure.

      • +4

        Thanks for your comment.
I'm not here to start a to and fro.

I just posted what I felt after reading this post.

You have a look yourself mate, what do most comments point to: items being taken off the sale.

Good Guys are now playing this game because they blew the trumpet saying they wont increase prices 7 days before the sale.
So, what do they do next: take the meaty items off the menu, items that may prove to be more popular.

I dont have anything against the poster or the commentators here, my argument is against Good Guys holding these 'ebay sales', and also bringing it to the OzBargain community's attention not to take the 20% off at face value (especially when it contains Good Guys and eBay in same sentence) !

      • +7

I do get this point, and it is most certainly valid. However, I think the problem arises because as you have touched on people are voting based on three main things.

        • OP (Effort + Awareness)
        • eBay (20% off sale!!)
        • TGG ("we don't price jack")

I'm going to be quite blunt and presumptuous. Not many people are upvoting because of the current circumstances regarding 20% off TGG sales. They are upvoting because they have either a) saved money on eBay sales similar to this before and b) based on OPs effort.
I'm not negging the OP nor eBay. I'm just fed up with TGG thinking that no-one notices what they are up to.

I have a feeling I could've said all that in much less words but oh well.

    • +1

      Oz baaaaar baaaar

    • That's why this site needs to start adopting the hotdealsUK approach, where everyone can neg or upvote a deal anonymously - to avoid this favouritism/biased voting becoming more obvious

  • +3

All products I had in the cart in anticipation of this sale were removed from their eBay store!

    • Yeap disgusting practise yet the sheep upvote it so its front page news .. 🙄

  • Having seen the title I thought I could finally buy the Dyson V8 that I want.. Then went to the site to realise that it was also delisted. So lame.

  • +1

Sucks that people are reporting that items have been removed from their eBay before the sale starts.

I upvoted due to using these 20% of eBay sales before and actually getting pretty good deals. The upvote is in hope someone else will get a good deal.

Just because I upvoted doesn't mean I'll buy something just for fun, and I believe that's what people should do if there aren't any good deals, vote with your wallet.

    • +1

I think it is better to use your upvote if there actually is a deal on existing promotion, and not based on past sale history.
Too many store (especially on eBay specific store sale) will happily exploit people kindness…

  • nearly all ozbargain favourites have been delisted. worst good guys sale yet.

  • Massive amount of item removal. For shame

  • +2

Too many item removed. Have no choice but neg this deal.
Hope this helps discouraging their deceptive tactics.

  • +2

The item removal is just disappointing, not a bargain, had 3 items in my watch list … gone

  • +4

OP please change the title to "20% off SURVIVING items."

  • I bought a Microwave during their last 20% off. Just pray you don't need to contact their customer their service for anything. Horrible experience

  • They just removed the Weber's… Damn.

  • +1

They should really have 20% off selected items only (i.e the stuff still listed) and leave the other items listed without a discount, which would be a lot more transparent

  • +1

The LG Cordzero A9MASTER2X has already dropped to $799 from $849 a few weeks ago when I got it @ 20% off, so this will be good value for $799 and 20% off, with the bonus care kit.

    • How would this compare to Dyson V8 in your opinion?

      • +2

We never had the V8. We actually went from an old DC35 stick to this unit.

This unit is much quieter than the old unit we had, and more powerful…. well duh!

We actually spent about an hour in store before we bought and spoke to both the Dyson rep, and TGG staff about the A9MASTER2X and the V10. Even they were positioning the V10 (whether animal, or absolute) against the A9 (multi or master) as comparative units, and not mentioning the V8 at all.

Take that piece as you will.

I'm happy with the A9MASTER2X… just waiting for the care kit to arrive.

        • Just bought it. High five for vacuum brotherhood :)

  • 20% off this price for the Galaxy Watch is pretty good, no? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Samsung-1091101505-Galaxy-Wa…

    I can't see any cheaper anywhere…

  • Obviously cherry picking the sale. My last experience wasn't too good either when they sent my item without packaging and it was damaged in transit.

    Nightmare to sort out.

  • Why do they keep discounting Ebay more than their main online store?

  • +1

Don't encourage TGG for their shitty behavior. TGG if you're watching, from now on, I will always use get other stores to price match your price. You will forever be a bargaining chip for me, nothing more.

  • Thanks for removing the Hisense TV I wanted from your ebay store Good Guys :/

  • Deceptive by removing items and increasing postage costs.

  • Never saw 25 negs before 😁

  • +4

Congrats on reaching 200 votes nocure!

  • Do your research first then when sale you will see if it’s a good price

Ive purchase items with 20% off at best ever price in the past

  • Does anyone knows if JB Hi-Fi price match the discounted items? I have JBHF gift cards to be used…

  • -4

They don't usually price jack. Way to ruin their good name.

    • Why the negs?

  • Still expensive even after 20% off.

  • They need the publicity like allphones. Unacceptable practice.

  • Literally everything I want has been delisted. Dodgy guys.

    • "The Good Dodgy Guys"

  • This seems like a good deal. Already cheapest anywhere at $667. Anyone have one? I need a new washing machine. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Bosch-WAN22120AU-7-5kg-Front…

  • is there a way to view the previous pricing of a listing aside clicking on the amount sold previously?

doesn't help with items that haven't been purchased recently

  • I'm cautious about ordering from TGG Ebay store after a previous purchase. The Good Guys gave Couriers Please the incorrect address - they omitted the unit number from the address. The Ebay store said it was the Loganholme stores fault. The Loganholme store said it was the Ebay stores fault. I went to the Loganholme store to just see if I could pick the item up, as they had it in stock, and they said no as my parcel is with the courier. Took over 3 weeks to get delivery

  • +1

    Deceptive conduct

    10 items in tech,all drones.

  • +1

We pay gst on all ebay purchases and ACCC doesnt care. i am at neg side.

  • +2

Disgusting and appalling behaviour by The Good Guys. Price jacking and selective item removal from their eBay site. The Good Guys along with Harvey Norman do not deserve to be featured on Ozbargain along with other businesses which have used these practices moving forward.

  • Removed all the good items, so dodgy.

  • Is the code working now? I tried but didn't work for me.

  • $54 to deliver a Ring battery and no stock for pickup at any stores in WA despite stock being avaialble to purchase at full price. No thanks.

  • +1

What bugs me is the online store has lots of click and collect options, their eBay has every store in Vic "Out of stock" forcing me to use delivery

  • "Looks like this code isn't ready yet. Please try again later."

    Anyone getting that?

    • Yup.

    • Starts at 10am mate

      • Which gives them a last chance to remove more items :)

  • So what does selective product removal mean for us? It means the removed products are being marketed and held more tightly. Therefore they are the products to watch out for in future sales like Boxing day.

Good Guys are now owned by JB Hi-Fi, a listed company. They exist to make profit which is fair enough. They won't undermine prime product pricing as it hurts themselves and the industry.

The best example of holding prices via marketing is Apple. They only discount slightly and require that their products are separated in store. Doesn't mean they're superior it means they are controlling your perception of value in your mind.

  • +2

I purchased a washing machine from TGG recently through eBay and was happy to drive 10min to local store to pick up but apparently no stock. Within an hour of auction end, I had a lady call me from the local store to arrange delivery time. Amazingly they had stock and I had to pay the delivery cost instead of free pickup?

Same thing appears to be happening again with stock for something I have my eye on today… no local stock (which is pretty highly unlikely). I left them a message via eBay yesterday to ask about this but haven't had a reply yet.

    • Years ago I purchased a Washing Machine from Harvey Norman, they said they would deliver it but I said I would take it today. The didn't have the stock in the store and I had to drive to a warehouse 10 minutes away to pick it up.

It wouldn't surprise me if it's the same for TGG as well.

  • +4

What a Joke - "The Good Guys will not increase the eBay price of any product that is part of the promotion on The Good Guys' eBay store from 7 days before the promotion".
TGG Didn't increase price for Item but increase price for shipping from $5.00 to $54.95 and shows "out of stock" in nearby stores so forcing me to pay $50 extra for shipping

  • +3

Just bought a Hauwei Nova 3e for $279.20. I'll give you an upvote.

  • They increased the price overnight. Kindle was $159 yesterday, and now is at $174.

    • I was interested in getting one of these as well and had the item page up from yesterday, so I can verify that the price was $159 as well. So they straight out lied about the 7 days thing.
