  • So modular is a thing again?
I loved my old LG G5 with its 'friends'
I wonder how this will fare…

    Band: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz, WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100MHz, LTE 800/1800/2100/2600 (Bands 1,3,7,26)
    TD-LTE 1900/2300/2500/2600 (Bands 38,39,40,41),
No band 28….bummer. But has NFC.

    • the australian version z2 has band 28 so might want check the sku of what cooli ships …. i’ve gotten moto G series from overseas and it had band 28.

      • Search for sku HKMHAMTZ2P only gets one result, Coolicool.

HOME3 coupon code for 3$ off (verified)

    • Thanks for this coupon code! Just bought the deal and used the code successfully - and it's in US$, so worth Au$4.41 (I recall).
      Best sort of OzBargainer!!

That is a really good price.
Got one of these phones from OW after going through the Nexus series (and being disappointed), and honestly can say, it's been one of the best phones I've ever had.

Love the long battery life, use the mods regularly, especially the game pad, and like the little tweaks they have done to Android, like double shake to turn on the light, or long press on fingerprint sensor to wake/sleep the phone.

Might get another as a spare..

  • I commented this in another thread, but I'm pretty sure this is one of the thinnest phones you can get right now.

  • I've been on the Moto G series fora while now and very happy for price v value. Should i switch to Z or just keep getting G?

  • +3

    phenomenal battery life.

    Great all-day battery life

    3000mAh battery

    Something doesn't add up here.

    • the z1 play had better battery life but the z2 is pretty decent too

      • Yeah, wife has Z Play and probably has the best battery life out of any smart phone I've used. It's the large battery, AMOLED screen and using a mid range Snapdragon that seems to just work. It's also fairly small with a semi decent camera.

However I don't think you would get any better than average battery life out of the Z2 play.

We both had Moto X Play before too which used the same combo as the Z Play and it had really good battery life, it was just an extremely thick phone.

        • I liked the phone but thought the camera was pretty awful.

    • Snapdragon 62x series mate. Once you use a phone with this CPU you'll know what they mean.

    • Can easily get two days + out of my phone before needing to charge it.
Add the Incipo add on battery mod and that turns into a week

Good many happy Moto customers here. This is very good phone if you can get B28 will be added bonus.

    Nice phone.
Supports SD card up to 256GB and has a 3.5mm audio jack.

and dedicated slot for SD Card

  • Hi - so what happens if there is no Band 28 (Australian use) please? What are the downsides and should I not get the phone because it does not have Band 28. Many thanks in advance.

    • Without B28, on Telstra your phone will drop to 3G more often. Most phones do that anyway for voice.

Not a big deal for most people, as 3G is good enough.
In contrast, the "NextG" 850MGz 3G band is absolutely essential if using Telstra.

  • Thanks OP, ordered to use as a secondary phone

I ordered it last night using PayPal, now got email asking for ID, home address showing utility bill plus credit card photo.

I told them to bugger off and cancel the order.

    • I did the same and got the same email.

      • Email them again to confirm about cancelling and refund if they are not happy with PayPal payment.

Above will help in future dispute

PS: I did and response I got is, will sent it quickly.
Don't know if that mean shipping quickly or refund quickly.

        • I've emailed and requested to cancel and issue refund, no response yet. My Bank and PayPal both say the email they sent requesting personal details, is NOT on. Both are disputing now. I wish I Googled the company first, not very favourable reviews!!

          • @Maltrex: Same here

            • +2

@Seven8Nine: Got refund today via PayPal.

Had to raise a dispute and seller was asking me to close the PayPal case first. They tried few times over 3 emails but I refused. In the end they issued a refund and case automatically closed.

They may be legit business or may be not, but in the end it was not worth to give all personal details, to save couple of $$.

Coolicool was not cool for me.

              • +2

@Seven8Nine: Well done! Hopefully I get my money back soon too. They are wanting me to close the dispute. Clowns!!

                • +3

@Maltrex: Ridiculous store requesting that info… I vote for an OzBargain ban!

  • grey import?

    • +1

The shop is in Hong Kong FFS! What difference does it make if local HK stock, or grey import?

Either way, same specs, no GST and no local warranty.

  • also when does this deal expire? any idea?

    • It looks like a clearance price, so whenever stock runs out. Unless the supplier finds more.
The Z3 play has been out for some months now. $799 in aus.

Mine has been notified as sent, with a Singapore tracking code. So I assume they send bulk air-freight to Singapore, and "post" it from there.

  • I have the Z2 Play 64gB. The battery life is ok, not at all amazing. I had the Z Play and that phone had really amazing battery life - for the first four or five months of it's life I would often get two days out of a charge. The Z2 Play however is usually down to around 35% battery when I plug it in at bedtime.

Incidentally, it was primarily battery issues with the Z Play that pushed me to buy the Z2 Play. Would suddenly go from around 30% to like 5% or less, then shut down in seconds if I couldn't plug it in quick enough. Battery stats issue which I couldn't be bothered trying to fix.

Bought the Z2 Play for $550 three months ago on eBay, Australian seller that told me they had Australian stock, but it took 8 days for the auspost tracking to show any movement. I reckon it was imported from Asia. 😡

One thing I dislike about the Z2 Play is that, unlike the Z Play, the phone often vibrates in my pocket, and I'm pretty sure it's the fingerprint sensor falsely detecting a touch. Quite annoying when you think you're getting a phone call. Anybody else have this issue?

It's been updated to Oreo 8.0.0.

$238 is a ripper price. Is the stock in Australia already?

    • The stock is overseas and the offer is a scam

      • Your plus vote and response makes me go hmmm.

        • I don't know how to retract my + vote :(
They sent an unacceptable email to me:
          "Dear customer
          Thanks for your order
This is your first order in our shop and your order paid by credit card, the amount is high.
Now your order is in risque.

We need to ask your confirmation and some information to check.

Please pass us these copies or pictures which related to shipping address:

2.the shipping address confirmation(eg electricity bill, gas, water …)

3.your credit cardfront and back, show the first6numbers & last 4 numbers and cardholder name(please hide the other information and protect your information)

          Will be refunded and cancelled.

          Thanks to your understanding.

          Best regards
          Eagle"

  • Picked up one for my son ; no updates since 1/Nov on the tracking page.
Has anyone get confirmation the item has been sent or is this normal ?
    Thanks

    • +1

Normal. They send it from HK to Singapore or other country to enter the postal system.

    • +1

ahhh - I didn't see it; but I got that same stupid email requesting for ID and my cc information.
      How very stupid.
      Cancelling now.

      • +1

        Update , they replied :

        hi there
if you don't want to show your information
please send me your payment bill or payment screenshot to check.
we just need to reconfirm the order belong to card holder orders.
        waiting for your reply
        best regards

I've told them to cancel and refund ; if I don't get a confirmation in 24 hours I'll open a PayPal dispute

        • Why would you do that? It's not like there's your ID, home address, utility bill, credit card details on it. It's pretty much the same what they would see on their end.

          • @bargainparker: Then why are they wasting my time?
They should just send the item , they have had my funds since 1st Nov.

It's not such a great deal that'll I'll be losing out if I don't get it.

            • +1

@utopia: So you never waste time.

Maybe they should, but they didn't. It's not the first shop to stuff up and certainly not the last. That's why this is called not so perfect world.
Did you want to buy something from eBay during sale, looked at an item, put in the basket, just to find they jacked up the price? Did you buy something that was pretty much clear from the beginning it wasn't a deal but price error and it wouldn't be honoured, yet you still bought it hoping you get lucky? Then when you didn't, you wasted time asking for refund.

Wasting time is a daily occurrence.

          Update :
          Step 1/ 15/Nov : PayPal dispute started.

Step 2/ 15/Nov : their PayPal response : dear customer

we ready send phone to you ,and you close the dispute ,ok?
          thanks

Step 3/ 15/Nov : My paypal response : I don't see the tracking updated since 1/Nov ; where is the item and what is the tracking ?

Step 4/ 16/Nov : their PayPal response : dear customer
you close the dispute first ,we send product and give you tracking number
          thanks

Step 5/ 16/Nov : by email they sent to me :
          Hello,sir
          Thanks for your letter
we want to refund you, but our colleague tell us you open a case,
          pls close it
          we can refund you

          Step 6/ 18/Nov: I responded in both Paypal dispute and via email : Dear seller;
In your email to me you wrote that you'll refund it ; but on PayPal you say you are saying will send it if I close the dispute first.
I will close the dispute when I get the refund (I attached their email into PayPal)

Step 7/ Concluded with a PayPal refund 20 minutes ago

          • I'm pretty sure this is the first time I had to execute a PayPal dispute; good result
  • Received. XT1710-08
Box was opened, I guess to flash international firmware on Chinese phone?

Not "Play protect certified", so no Google Pay. Google apps not licensed.
Is this a big worry? Any way to get google pay working?
I'd understood the same hardware was sold in Hong Kong, so was hoping for certified HK firmware.

    Will look for fixes here:
    https://forum.xda-developers.com/z2-play

Netflix not showing in play store, but works after side-loading APK direct from Netflix.

    • Oh bugger!
Getting massive battery drain. 400mA excess.
Looks like a problem with the firmware they have flashed.

Has anyone else received this phone? Please message me or reply here.

      • Yeah, got it on the same day you posted. My box was still factory sealed, as far as I could tell.
I haven't seen any battery drain prob - although I tend to plug in every night, so maybe battery never got low enough to trigger the problem.
I'm REALLY happy with this phone so far.
Can I do anything to help further?

        • Thanks.
At the top end of the box is a 3x5cm seal - clear tape with Moto logo. Was yours sealed so you had to cut it?

I haven't seen any battery drain prob

Then you definitely don't have it :)
I've reported the problem to coolicool by email friday, and paypal now.

          • @bargaino: How did you go with your phone or paypal?

Does this model have B28 and B5?

        • What Rom on yours Ozcelt?

          Google Play etc working ok?

      • I posted in forums,

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/419286

Coolicool claims the 7 hour standby battery life is normal.

        Will paypal be any help?

        • Try disable Google duo and uninstall / disable updates . Duo seems to be causing a few issues on android.

          • @shadowangel: Well, the problem seems to have magically gone away, and I have a screenshot!

I powered it up to try shadowangel's advice - disabled a few google apps. (It was already factory-reset again).
It still seemed to be draining power, but I left it for about 5 hours and found this:

            https://image.ibb.co/eo77eq/Screenshot-20291109-flatline-s.p…

In the first 1.5 hours, the battery reading dropped as before. (I cannot say if this was real, but in earlier tests the phone was quite warm when idle. Not as hot as under heavy load and screen on, but warm.)
After around 1.5 hrs (I'd not been touching the phone), the battery graph suddenly flatlines. Power drain has stopped.

So, having seen this several hours later, I re-enable Duo and others, still good. Reboot out of safe mode, connect to wifi and let it update google services, still good. No more rapid drain.

i.e. can no longer reproduce the fault. Am hoping it is permanent, not intermittent. Any suggestions please?

  • Picked up from AusPost as I was carded with a missed delivery. This package came from Singapore. USA adapter included by the seller (Moto's power brick is for EU).

Box arrived with the seal cut and battery at 0%. A few fingerprints on the screen protector only.
I have not yet factory resetted and am unsure if this is a factory Motorola ROM. Google Play is included.
I charged to 100% and have not noticed any unusual battery drain while idling.

First impressions: feels light for its size, AMOLED screen looks nice. Oh…there is a rattling noise when shaking, coming from the camera assembly area…

I have ordered this case: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mofi-For-Motorola-Moto-Z-Z2-Play…
Tip: use the fingerprint scanner for home/back/recent apps with this guide https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/inde…
Sidenote: Coolicool wanted me to send ID documents but I told them to just send the phone. They sent it even while my PayPal case was open.
