Damn, my guess on the price (on the FB competition) was quite a bit off :)

By the way, are you also participating in the AMD Raise the Game campaign?

    • Updated. Yes it's included

  • +1

Damn it I wish I could get this
    oh well +1

  • I had to RMA my 1070 after 2 years and now in search of an AMD card coz i got a freesync monitor.
    is this card good/worth it?

Or should i wait for the new AMD cards

    • +1

      1080p monitor?
If so this may be ok,

Personally I’m gonna grab a Vega 56 when they come down in price though…

      • 3440x1440 ultrawide at the moment.

        • +3

For that resolution go Vega 56, they have been going for around the same price as 1070's and trade hits with them too.

        • Get a vega. The 580 is more to play @1080p maxed.
If you are coming from a 1070 maybe pay more for a 64? so you can get an upgrade from your old GPU.

        • The 590 which is about to be released… Might be an option but the Vega 56 is probably your best option.

        • Same resolution here, using Vega 56, in many I cannot maintain that resolution and a solid 75 fps without lowering settings, a RX 580 would require lowering more settings.

        • I would actually recommend a Vega 64. If you're expecting framerates to hit 60 using 3440x1440p at least (so that you are always within the Freesync FPS range) you're going to need the top-end card from AMD.

I got mine for $639 +10% discount (ebay vouchers). That's probably the best price you'd obtain if you want to buy a card this year.

          • @scrimshaw: Whats the FPS range of freesync?

Seems weird to have a higher end range as Freesync benifits more at low resolutions.

Not that Screen tearing isnt annoying at higher resolutions.

            • @mavis30551:

Whats the FPS range of freesync?

Unlike G-sync, which has a predetermined range and is the same across all monitors, Freesync does not have a defined standard. you need to look at the specifications of the monitor itself to find what ranges it supports.

You can look it up on AMD's database.
              https://www.amd.com/en/products/freesync-monitors

48 FPS is usually the minimum for many monitors. That shouldn't be too hard to achieve with a Vega 56 at 1440p if you turn down the settings to med-high. But if you game at the highest settings definitely pay the little extra for Vega 64 (which is GTX 1080 level of performance).

              • @scrimshaw: AMD's Enhanced Sync and nvidia's version work great and along with graphics cards being able to pump out higher than monitor rates, have made the whole adaptive sync thing a bit of a fizzer.

I game on an 80Hz monnitor at 50 to 100+ fps in the same game and don't see any tearing.

              • @scrimshaw: problem with the Vega 64 is the energy use… depends on usage of course, but i put the cost of ownership over the life of the card over the 1080, if your a heavy user, could be as much as 50-75 bux a year…given, on special, there isn't that much in the actual price either…

thats why i was thinking about grabbing the Vega 56, less energy usage…

              • @scrimshaw: Are Vega 64 too noisy as per many online reviews?

                • +1

@EnALup: It depends on what variant you have. The reference cards are very noisy and you should try to avoid getting those if you can.

I have the Gigabyte Windforce V64 and I found that it's noise levels are quite acceptable. I've also undervolted the card while also pushing the HBM2 memory clocks from the stock 945mhz to 1020mhz.

This resulted in a pretty modest increase in performance, roughly only 4.4% but I've also managed to lower the energy use + heat output by a small amount too

In case Wisc is wondering what my power usage is, I've only just started tracking energy use. It's about 1.1 kW of use per day on my main system, which is not including the power usage of the LCD monitor. Power usage is partly tax deductible since I work from home so I'm not too overly concerned about my computer power usage.

Much of my bills come from my HVAC.

                  Ryzen 1600x + Vega 64 = 385 watts pulled the wall if I start a DirectX 12 stress test

                  • @scrimshaw: Thanks for the detailed review. This has restored some confidence in me for GPUs again as high prices were making me nuts and was thinking to get Xbox X for similar to 580 performance compared to almost $2k investment in a powerful rig. Good to know these cards have customization making them close to 1080.

          • @scrimshaw: And then you would be better off with a 1070 ti or GTX 1080.

        • I had that too, couldn't lock 75fps in all games with an RX580. Upgraded to a Vega64.

        • +1

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RQQe_DC98M

Look at the performance difference of a RX 580 vs Vega 56 vs Vega 64 vs GTX 1080 and then compare the price difference.

Bang for buck, RX 580 is the best by far. In terms of actual performance, Vega 56 is a big jump, Vega 64 is a small jump after that and 1080 is a tiny bump and sometimes a loss over that.

This MWAVE price for RX 580 is great.
          Vega 56 for $499
          Vega 64 for $668, I think

          • @FabMan: Does Vega cards stand for their performance? Heard they are too noisy. I have R9 280 and it is quite noisy with 3 fans.
Taken the cost of this card, I am thinking to upgrade for 2 years with 580 as it will be an upgrade for 1080p gaming.

            • +1

@EnALup: I have a Vega 56 with a blower air cooler inside an iTX case, the fan noise doesn't bother me at all. However, I undervolt my GPU through their drivers.

Doesn't matter what system you have, I'd suggest following undervolting guides with Vega cards. It greatly reduces their power consumption, heat generated, noise produced and increases performance by reducing throttling.

          • +2

@FabMan: Really happy I got my Vega 56 for $440 a few days back. Really happy with the card.

          • +1

@FabMan: I'll also add that the RX 580 and GTX 1080 are better cards than the Vegas in general. If you get a reference Vega, you'll have to undervolt.

            • @idonotknowwhy: The Vega's have one big problem, AMD. The physical engineering is great, the decision to push the voltage to the maximum was surely a stupid decision. A small reduction via an undervolt and it is an amazing card. I'd recommend a Vega to anyone I think it capable of following a YouTube video and adjusting a setting in the drivers. The RX 580 and GTX 1080 are simply plug and play great cards.

  • yeah maybe ill wait out for the 590 then coz of my monitor

  • Damn I was 4 cents off, absolutely killing myself right now.
Edit: Can't access facebook right now but who actually won?

  • Is it worth upgrading from my current 470 8gb? Currently using a 1600p monitor.

  • +2

Damn I just bought a used one for this price and I though I was getting a bargain…THAT WAS ONLY 3 WEEKS AGO. Great price though!
Then again my GPU is still $399 on the site.

  • Does anyone know how much the card weight and the box dimension? I’m traveling abroad soon and think this would be a great gift for my little cousin who’s building his first pc

Just wondering if I could fit it in my carry on. Don’t wanna risk it in the checked baggage

  • I currently have a 970, would this be worth upgrading? I have a 1080p monitor.

    • +1

I just bought one to upgrade from my 970 but I also wanted to play odyssey. Its a decent upgrade if you can sell/repurpose your 970 I gave mine to my cousin.

    • +2

It's more of a sidegrade than an upgrade. I did the same and the performance improvements were negligible, the difference was around ~5 fps in a few games I tried. GTX 970's still offer surprisingly strong 1080p performance.

  • Any day now we should be able to get a Vega 56 for just another $100.

    • i was thinking the same, but i think its going to be a while, given at most places its still 500-600 bux+!

  • For 1080p gaming, I think their 570 4g $199 deal is better.

  • To bad shipping to NZ is so expensive. $62

  • good price, PLus good games

  • How is the cooling on these fans?

  • Anyone used one of these with Davinci Resolve - does it work OK?

    • +1

I have opened it, never really used the software but happen to have it installed. No obvious major issues but I haven't really tested it.

  • Pulled the trigger…. I think it's time I upgraded from my HD6870

    • +2

WOW .. i upgraded from a HD7970 that died and it was a great improvement.. :) i think you will see a massive one.

    • 5870 here, waiting for a good upgrade, waited this long already, can wait a bit longer…

Though I did but a second 5870 and cross Fire them… Only game it won't 1080 with decent frame rate is just cause 3, playable but does stutter sometimes…

  • Grabbed one of these two months ago for $320, it's great as it turns the fans completely off when they aren't needed for dead silence which is much better than my old GPU sagged grindy 7970 fans.

Runs PUBG at around 100 frames 1440P and i'm hoping it will be good enough for BF5 1440P on low/medium settings.

  • Any chance of having a sale on GTX 1070 ti or GTX 1080 as well?

    • +1

Highly unlikely for these two chipsets.
It's basically whatever we've in stock before it gets discontinued.

  • looking for a graphics low end that supports 8 monitors, im a dev Ops and go live developer. so no games played just a bunch of live code….. and terminals.. what do you guys suggest?

  • Hey, it seems as though it's now out of stock. Any news on when new stock will arrive?

  • PC Case Gear have a Gigabyte AORUS Radeon RX 580 8GB for $279: https://www.pccasegear.com/products/38531/gigabyte-aorus-rad…

    • No longer available at this price. I added it to my cart this morning, decided to do a bit of research and within 45 minutes the price has gone up to $299. Phoned up to ask why this has happened and got spun some story about shipments. Obviously they did this to compete with mwave and have found out mwave are now out of stock have decided to bump the price back up. I know its only $20 and its still the best price for the card but switching the price back up when another retailer goes out of stock just doesnt seem right.

Pretty disappointing to say the least and will make me not buy from pccasegear. Ive built my last two systems with them but now they are taking the bait and switch approach to best other retailers I think i will give other retailers my money instead of pccasegear.

      • That's lame. The description said $120 off 'while stocks last'.

        • I asked if there is still stock and he said yes there is but not at that price. I asked how am I supposed to know then the $279 stock is going to run out and he went on about shipments and containers and all that stuff. Was probably my fault for not acting on the deal straight away but I dont think its unreasonable for a retailer to atleast put a disclaimer with a time limit or stock count.

          • @Slowbrick: Hi Slowbrick,

We'd a stock counter for this SKU, it was on our daily deals page though. I'd tried to use it as the primary link for this deal but OzBargain declined it as I'd used the same link for a deal previously.
