24m is a long contract with the way the market is going at the moment

    • I don't even see how the above link is anyhow related to a "SIM ONLY" plan.
If you wanted to do another "like for like - SIM ONLY plan" then this would be it https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/408016.

If you are still contracted to Telstra you can always move plans especially if you call customer service or webchat about discussing moving to a better plan. It works better if you can point out the current discrepancies (be it GB difference or value you seem to be missing vs current plan).

Asking them nicely to waive the early termination fee depends on who you speak with and if you aren't satisfied with the response then call or live chat with another Telstra CS the next day.

I have in the past successfully not paid an early termination fee (they credit me in the next bill).
For 10GB more and the with the addition of International calls & SMS does seem better value but depending on your budget.

If you are out of contract it is worth asking them to see if they can provide you with a "Loyalty discount" of +$10 monthly credit off. Should you decide to sign up with the Original Poster's offer to bring this down to $39 per month.

      Differences between plans:

      BYO Mobile Plan for 30GB**

      • $49 per month (12 month plan), possible to obtain a +$10 monthly credit if you ask Telstra CS to bring this to $39 per month
      • 30GB data (does not include 'piece of mind')
      • Unlimited Local & National calls & SMS

      BYO Mobile Plan for 60GB**

      • $59 per month (12 month plan)
      • 60GB data (includes 'piece of mind' which slows your connection down if you go over limit)
      • Unlimited Local & National calls & SMS
      • 15 (selected countries) Unlimited International Calls & SMS

It is better to do the negotiations over web chat as you have written proof of any changes or bonuses they might offer YOU. Always get a reference number prior to ending the web chat and be polite but firm in your responses.

      • I've tried this for 3 days now. Out of contract, yet no one wants to give me a further loyalty discount

Jb hifi $45 monthly deal is better. Unlimited calls/sms and 50gb data monthly.

    • +3

Not possible for current telstra customers

      • +6

It is. I've done it. Go do it. Now.

        • with gift card?

          • @upsidedownlemon: you don't get the gift cards or money off mobile phones but you do get the plan

      • As long as it's considered an upgrade, the deal is available to existing customers. You just don't get the gift cards :(

        • I'm surprised anyone would go for the plan without the gift card, the gift card (sell for $150 ) reduces the price $12.50 a month, that's huge!

          • @upsidedownlemon: Telstra were offering crappy deals about 6 months ago eg $40 for 7gb and $500 worth of calls/sms. We have to go with Telstra due to reception issues.

    • +3

So they brought back the Frreedom Plus plans ( but only for offenders)
      Thanks Telstra *)

  • +4

You can get this down to $39 a month if you're lucky with the live chat reps.

    • how?

      • +1

Just politely ask for $10/month loyalty bonus and rep usually agrees

    • +1

If I’m on $49/month already discounted to $39/month, but with 20Gb - is it worth asking to recontract for the extra data? Would be handy some months to have a bit more leeway….

      • +2

I was in the same situation as you. Contact them via chat. They added the extra data free of charge without recontacting.

        • Had to recontract, didn't force the point, another 12 months is fine with extra data.
          Thanks for reply tho!!

    • Did the same last Monday when I rang Telstra after a live chat rep
stuffed up my contract. Put it on the other mobile on our account.
Was charging $49 for 30gb. Phone call to Telstra and both mobile no's
are now on $49 minus $10 each month.

    • +1

I did on Friday, and didn't even have to push hard (got an extra 5GB data as well)

    • Out of curiosity how long after placing the order did the plan swap over? Mine seems to be sitting in "pending" for some time.

  • +1

    I've just re-contract.
Had been enjoying the free international calls which I now have to pay $10 for it.
Have to start to visualise life without fixed lines and calling overseas from mobile.
Good thing is I was given a discount of $10
So $49 for unlimited calls (national & international) and 30G data which I would never use.

Strange thing is they need to activate the International Day Pass.
Cost $10/day if I use it when overseas….

I was on an older Telstra SIM only plan, out of contract.

Purchased a $2 Vodafone SIM and loaded $10 on, and ported my number over.

Went into JB-hifi the following day (should be possible same day if a weekday) and signed up without issue for the $45 50GB plan with the $200 voucher. I'd recommend anyone looking at this plan to do the same.

    • When you get the deal through JB Hi Fi, does your carrier show as Telstra or is it "JB Hi Fi mobile"/some kind of third party similar to Boost/Amaysim etc?

      • Telstra

  • I recently got them to do this plan for $39, with a bonus 5GB data. Done over live chat. Pointed out that I was a loyal customer, and that Voda and Optus were both better value at the moment.

    • So $39 for 24 mths with 35g data plus 15g?
      Or no contract?

      • $39 for 35GB data, with POM, on a 12 month contract

  • Is this not just a regular listed deal on the Telstra website?

    • Negative. Didn't realise it included the peace of mind data!

  • How can I tell whether the PoM is activated or not? The live chat rep said he has done that for me but I rather check to see it myself

    • Would it show up on the 24/7 app?

    • +2

Ok somehow I managed to get a rep to give me 40GB + POM for $39pm (after $10pm discount).

Both 40GB and the line of POM (until speed cap etc) is showing up on the app so all mint.

      • great result mate.

I managed to get my data bumped up from 20gig to 30gig across 2 accounts, with POM.

        Happy with that.

      • Thanks, managed to get $10 discount added too.

  • Peace Of Mind.

Speed is limited once your data inclusion is reached, instead of paying $10 per extra gig.

  • Hi guys..how is everyone getting $10 off? I've been with Telstra for a long time however they only offered me extra 5GB. Not the $10 loyalty discount. Is there any trick, any particular rep to talk to, any particular day/time of the day or is it just luck?

    • I think the operator i had was Alinto from memory.

  • Spoke to Rohan he added 10GB to each of my plans

  • Web chatted twice and called once, and they won't change my plan.

Currently on $49 with $10 discount but only with 10 + 5 gb of data.

Website specifies its for existing customers, but the plan is only available as as addon/New SIM, not existing sim.

So I've tried to get the extra data, but haven't found a rep willing to help me out…

    • Are you on the Mx BYO Plan from last year?

      • +1

Yes thats right - but I thought I'd try a different approach and just ask for more data, doesn't have to be 30 - but the rep I'm online chatting to is happy to do it on my current sim, no addon services, so I'm happy now
