Quickpic is good, but got a bit funky after they added cm cloud. Ill give this a go, thanks OP.

The pink text issue with Oreo was the final straw for me, that's when I looked at the alternatives and most agree this is the best.

      • +2

Thought I was the only one with the pink text!

        • +1

Nope, search 'pink quickpic' or magenta, lots of complaints. Some Oreo glitch that the new owner of the app couldn't be bothered to fix, too busy trying to upsell.

      • Pink vs orange?

A few years back, QuickPic was purchased by Cheetah Mobile, a Chinese company that doesn't have a great "reputation". Not long after, QuickPic supposedly started phoning home to some obscure internet addresses. To the best of my (limited) knowledge, no one has ever proven that the app is doing anything super dodgy, but I quickly removed it because there were plenty of reasonable alternatives.

I've since mostly used F-Stop Gallery, then Simple Gallery and Google Photos.

Is there any difference between this and the version available on F-Droid for free?

    • +1

The version on F-Droid is the older 5.1.2 free version.
Support for that is being pulled, that's why I'd grab the pro version while it's free.

      • +2

It claims to be open source, so what will stop F-Droid from tracking the latest version? Is there any difference with the Pro version apart from the developer presumably wanting to monetise their open source app (which I don't begrudge - though with 80 contributors on github I don't know how many of them are benefiting from this monetisation).

      • Where did you read about that?

  • Original title: free until 12 November.
    Description: free until 11 November.
    Expiry calendar: 12 November.

Please confirm the expiry, OP. Also no need to put the expiry date in the title.

Used this with my pixel 2xl before moving to note 9. Its a great app. Lack of a gallery in stock android sucks

  • +2

Am I missing something here? How is this any different to the standard gallery on my Note 9? 🤔

    • +3

I have the same question. S8+. Downloaded. Opened. Benefit was not immediately obvious.

      • +2

Some phones and tablets (a lot?) come with crappy Gallery apps (ads, bloat, poor UI, etc.), and this is a decent replacement.

        Also, it's open-source.

        Not everyone has a Note 9 or S8+ ;)

I was thinking along these lines, just shocked I suppose. Comment above using is on a pixel 2xl. I would have thought a phone of at least that calibre would have its own gallery. 🤷‍♂️ Shrugs

Those other 2 "simple" apps you posted seem like a good addition though. 👍

          • +1

@db87: Pixel 2XL has it's own gallery called "Photos", you can download it from Play Store as Google Photos.

            • @Agret: Photos is not a real gallery. Equalant would be Images section in Files app. But none is better than Samsung built in Gallery or this app

        • Cool. Thanks. Makes sense. Didn't realise my 18 month old phone is still happening. When I turn my S6 on these days I do get a massive shock. Basically a 3 day start up duration and maybe 90 seconds battery life, or so it seems. Maybe I need to bin it.

      The features I like are:
      Exclude or hide folders
      Rotate options
      Sort options
      Filter option

      • I also like those features.

One feature I DON'T like however is that you can't filter out the displaying of photos in the form of album cover art.

I also don't like that you can't keep the camera role and screenshot folders stuck in place, rather it places whichever was last used in the first position. Pinning them doesn't seem to do much.

        • Can't you just exclude or hide the folder where your music is to filter out your album art?

        • As OZB AI said you can exclude the folder where your music is, just make sure it's the root folder for music and it will remove all album art in one hit.

  • I think Piktures is better but this app has more customisation yet isn't as nice

@OP Use this modified QuickPic APK it's great - https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/mod-gall…

  • When I was looking for QuickPic replacement I came across Camera Roll
It is free and no ads.

  • Been using Simple Gallery for a while now, after QP went to shit. Tried dozens of other apps and Simple is by far the best. Love it.

  • ive got the note 8 would this be better .. one thing i hate about the note 8 and pictures is that it adds all pictures to the same folder - so if i take a series of pictures - and want to view them .. it also adds in any viber, whats app, facebook pics while scrolling through which is super annoying

  • The gallery app is excellent. Best I've tried (Note 4)

  • Thanks for the heads up.
I couldn't find the pro versions in Google Play so I downloaded the basic versions. When I opened them, I got the message "This version of the app is no longer maintained. Please upgrade to the Pro version. It is free till: Nov 12 2018". So I then clicked on 'Upgrade' then 'Install' to get the pro version for free.
