Highly recommend camera. Very compact and takes excellent photos.

    • the VI is double the price, would you recommend this, good enough for travelling? we have iphone and S8 but the battery drain too fast if we use it for video and camera shoot. Dont want to carry the DSLR anymore after having kids.

I have the III and it great, haven't tried the later models. But for my eyes, I think the III is good enough for me.
I also have a Canon DSLR and am too lazy to take it out…it collects dust, a bit of a waste.
But we take the RX100 everywhere.

They are different cameras. The VI has a 24-200 f2.8-4.5 lens whereas the III has a 24-70 f1.8-2.8 lens.

I haven't used either extensively but from what I've read in review they are both worth it for what they do.

The MK III is a good stills camera
The MK IV added 4K video (though it has a tendency to shutdown after a while due to the heat it generates, it's safe for the camera but annoying for the user)
The MK V made a lot of minor performance improvements across the board
The VI added a super zoom lens but the lens is slower (won't perform as well in low light)

So each version up adds something and most people say that each version is worth the added cost if you need the extra feature it offers. The simplest example would be the MK III -> IV, if you need video then the IV is probably worth the extra dosh but if you are only planning on doing stills the MK III is better value for that specific circumstance.

      • I have this (bought used) and it's the best camera I've ever used. My background - I own and an older mid-range DSLR with 3 lens' as well as countless compacts over the years. As per spb's post below - the MkIII is still the sweet spot for stills (no pun intended).

However, for the same price at the moment, I'd buy this - only one left at the time of this post. It's a factory second but with full Sony worranty.

        • Thanks, it is sold out now.

          • @wangsk: Yes, too slow - gone last night!

            • @elektron: hopefully they will have more before christmas, thanks for your comment.

              • @wangsk: I do see them there at this price from time to time…Good luck!

      • agree with @congngo, I take RX100 everywhere, compact and takes nice photos.
I have Galaxy S9 but still use RX100 for night shots.

    • I think it's this https://www.sony.com.au/electronics/cyber-shot-compact-camer… but you will have to call in to see.

I didn't buy one in the end.

      • I bought this one for $15. In my experience it's not a night and day difference like some reviews are suggesting but it did make the camera a bit nicer to hold and to look at.

By the way, these cameras are built like tanks. The used one I got was banged up as heck in different places and I could tell that it got a ton of abuse - but all of the fine electronics still worked!

      • Yes that's the one I bought - get them to stick it on for you too. It's slippery without and highly recommended.

        • I personally didn't find it slippery without it but agree that it does feel better. It also makes it look a bit cooler (yes, I know vanity's a deadly sin) - just the other day a friend asked me if it was mirrorless.

  • I bought one for 623 from the 20% off ebay sale and it came with a $50 camera accessory coupon which I used to buy the case for $59 with shipping. Just in case anyone is looking for options. I bought from on camerastore but I think they're out of stock. Saw one from camerahouse that's similar pricing but you'd have to check if you do get the coupon there too.

  • I have an RX100 v1 from years ago - how does this new one compare?

MK III is notoriously known to be the best bang for buck for most folks out of the series.

  • It blows my mind how these have retained their value. This is the same price I paid for it when it was first launched.

  • Anyone bought from Digital Camera Warehouse before? Reviews on Google seem quite mixed.
