  • So how much AUD will be the redmi note 6 plus
from 6pm? $199US is normal price

    • The price for Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro won't change at 6PM, it will still be US $199 US (AU $272.07).

Promotion starting at 6PM only applies to the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite 6GB 128GB, which will be reduced to US $209.99 from US $299.99 (Limited to 500 units).

  • So are prices inclusive of GST

    • +4

GearBest aren't charging GST, AFAIK they stopped several weeks ago.

      • Interesting. What made them change their mind?

        • Not sure.

          • +1

@adr8: you would need relationship with the australian tax office and processes to pay gst to them ….more hassle than it’s worth if you are in china ….. can’t imagine the ato successfully litigating a chinese company in china, and you can’t track what people buy as it’s forwarded from individual sellers …..gearbest is a market place for sellers.

  • Which Note 6 Pro is band 28?

  • +2

Not global ROM on the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite. Tempting price though will jsut have to wait to flash global ROM

    • It says Global version, has Google play and other languages as well (details from the Gearbest site), only downside I would say is the lack of headphone jack.

      • Global ROM isn't out for the phone mate. Check MiUI forums and download sections, it isn't. They've probably just flashed their own RoM on it which can be removed easily enough - it's not the actual official global ROM with Google Play.

        • seen a youtube video couple of days ago and that was from Dubai and he said it has been launched in Dubai. I might be wrong though. If you are sure that there is no official global version out yet then I will hold on as well.

          • @koolchamp81: You can unlock bootloader and flash global ROM stable when it arrives so that is an option.

There are markets that do get the global version like you said Dubai but the actual ROM isn't available officially downloadable til a few weeks later. So it's on its way at least

            • @adrianhughes1998: If its available in Dubai then there must be some global rom available, ins't it ? If this is not the case and we flash it later when the Global rom is available then does it get OTA updates or not ?

              • @koolchamp81: It's out I would say it was but don't stress. Unlock bootloader on the Chinese ones sold here on sites, then flash global once it's released.

              • -1

@koolchamp81: ota needs OFFICIAL firmware and not rooted, has to do with certificate to ensure that phone and firmware hasn’t been doctored / hacked ….if you don’t want ota, load whatever you want and update manually which is a PITA.

        • this is a global version (so itsays)
and it has band 28 for Australia

          https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Global-Version-Xiaomi-Mi-8-L…

          • -1

@costas60: global version isn't the same as global ROM haha

            • @adrianhughes1998: @adrianhughes It says GLOBAL VERSION
              NOT Global rom

              • @costas60: I just said that.

                • -2

@adrianhughes1998: Global version always comes with global rom
as it says on my link above
Global Version, support multi-languages, Google Play and OTA

                  • @costas60: Um no it doesn't. I've seen instances where they have put vendor ROM on there from people who have bought it with a Global sticker on it and have been tricked. Vendors can just bolt on Google Play apps if they want to / load it with viruses / malware etc.

The fact there is no 9.6 ROM available for official download on MIUI forums says it all. It's not officially official out yet ok?

                  • @costas60: Not necessarily. These guys can be very tricky with their wording and how they list.
The one Adrian links to IS 100% genuine global version from what I can see.
                    Several things confirm this.
1.The very first pic shows a water stamp "100% Original Official Global Version".
Listing an item like this, even on aliexpress, would be a clear misrepresentation of the product offered.
2.In the feedback several of the buyers have confirmed they did receive a genuine global version.
3.In the description for reflashed chinese units the band capabilities are not the same as the genuine global unit. With this one they match the spec.
4.Reflashed units come in unsealed boxes and usually have chinese writing under the 8 on the top of the box. Factory global units are factory sealed and have global clearly marked on the side.

Aliexpress are not the only ones to partake in this con, some of the other international sellers willingly do it as well. Many buyers get caught.

Here is one very obvious deceptive listing on Aliexpress.
                    States global in the description.
Read some of the feedback from buyers that got conned.
                    Note the different band capabilities..
In the first pic the fake watermark..
                    Does not support OTA updates..
Note the chinese writing under the 8 on the box top..
                    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Global-Version-Xiaomi-Mi-8-L…

FYI.. The 6GB ram 64GB version of the Mi 8 Lite is a chinese market phone and is not genuine factory global.

    • So the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is just a china rom reflashed?

      • Sounds like it. Ways around it of course

        • How do you know that it has a chinese rom and not a global rom? Can't see this in the ad. Just interested to know where to look in the future to make sure that I don't "accidentally" get a chinese rom.

          • @WantToPayLess: cos usually they are full of shit, you have to do Googling on MIUI forums to check whether global is out in the Downloads section. usually folks also post if they bought off Aliexpress and they got conned by buyers or not

            • @adrianhughes1998: "if they bought off Aliexpress and they got conned by buyers or not"
The other big name internet sellers do it too…

      • @AMLagonda "So the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is just a china rom reflashed?"
No, it is a Xiaomi phone, check the Mi website for the genuine specs.
See my post above re genuine global and bodgy reflashed rom units that can be found in many phone models and brands.

  • Does anybody think the Redmi Note 6 Pro is worth the upgrade from a Redmi Note 4X Pro? I realise the screen is bigger and chipset/camera are better.

    • Sd636 is a jump in processor and the camera is. Not sure if it's an upgrade though unless your phone is a couple of years old. You get the damned notch too.

I've got a mi Max as my daily driver now and I'm just fed up waiting for mi max 3 blue to come out. Think I will just cave and get a Mi 8 lite in its gradient finish. I'm an idiot I know.

      • I think I can live with the notch but not a headphone jack so that was another reason I'm leaning towards it. All the releases and different variants of the same or similar model make it difficult to keep up. I like the Mix Max range too but think a phone with a 6.25 screen is already pushing it. If you can justify the upgrade then why not. Thanks for your input.

        • Only reason I got my mi max was cos I smashed my redmi note 3 screen up. Trust me once you go big screen you can't go back haha, the whole industry is moving towards flagships with 6.3/6.4/6.6 inch screens anyways.

It's 11.11 day so let's just blow the money anyway and try not to feel guilty

    • @cheepo I have redmi note 5 and it is
much snappier than my redmi note 4X
saying that the redmi note 4X is still a great phone.
the redmi note 6 pro apart from notch is a redmi note 5.
have a look at youtube speed comparisons

    • I have a RN4X also and went after considering the RN5, RN6Pro, Mi2Lite, etc… I now favour the Mi 8 Lite.
It has Band 28, Snapdragon 660, Sony cameras found in more higher spec versions,… 4/64 ver can be had for under $300AU if you find the right deal and buy with a int fee free CC.

  • +2

I can't find anywhere that the 128gb mi8 lite is going on special. Only the 64gb.

    • Thanks for alerting me to this, I copied and pasted my last deal and forgot to change it to the 64GB version.

      • I was hoping I was wrong. Not that I'd ever use more than 64gb.

  • Thoughts on the Xiaomi Huami AMAZFIT smartwatch?. Never owned a smartwatch before.

Am I correct in assuming this watch can do these kind of customisation

  • Where's the deal, it's only showing the 4GB + 64GB as a listing on GearBest, no 6GB variants?

    • My apologies its the 4GB version. Link is correct my title was wrong.

      • yeah just saw it come up, hmmm saw that GeekBuying had it for $330 the other day but can't remember if it was 6GB version, probably not

        • The 6GB is $299 + shipping at Gearbest

        • $66 freight for me.

          • @Villagepunk: Showing $9.33 for me Melbourne metro.

            • @adr8: sorry no discount, it's 390 incl. shipping at Aliexpress for 6/128

EDIT: for black colour it is, but i'm after the stunning blue haha

  • The 6GB/128GB is now showing as US$249.99 while the 4GB/64GB is US$209.99. Shipping is US$9.33 to Brisbane for DHL, but the default "DHL (HK)" would charge ~US$25.

  • they should have just made it android one and stop punishing people ….. only thing missing on A1 was band 28 and nfc, nothing to reflash.

    • Yeah….the whole global thing is a pita….I've got a mi5s and only had 2 (maybe 3) updates in 2years. It stops me from buying another Xiaomi.

      • +1

My redmi note 4X and redmi note 5 gets reqular updates
whatis the version you are on?
Version: V9.6.2.0.NBGMIFD (MIUI9)is the latest for your model

        • -1

          I don't have the mi5s plus….just the mi5s so v9.6.10.
MIUI10 supposed to be released this month….not impressed with the slow updates at all.

  • SO is ther a global rom on Mi 8 Lite? Or not?

    • Not yet but it's coming. Mi max 3 took a few months and got it in the last fortnight. Same deal with this one.

  • +1

This post is confusing, now I don't know what is what, hard to get a cheap phone lately….

    • Bit over the place with how it was advertised first 6/128 then 6/64 then actual 4/64 but still decent prices after cashback

      • That 6/64 is a non global version.

  • +1

I got the mi 8 lite blue version 128gb global the minute it came out from another vendor. Its an amazing phone. The gradient color is like wow. People can't believe it when I tell them the phone costs less than aud $400.

    • Noice :) after internalising everything and debating I got the 4/64gb blue. Less RAM doesn't bother me too much. Looking forward to it

      • +2

You'll be happy with it. Sd660 while not a flagship is as good a mid range chip set as any.

    • is it the official global version or just a custom rom flashed on it, I assume it's official as mi8 lite also launched in the UK ..

      • +2

It's official. My unit box already has global logos on it.

        • So it means a clean rom with updates as well, received any OTA updates so far? does it inlcude any type c to audio jack dongle ?…Thanks

        • Does it come with a clear TPU Case in the box. I know some Xiaomi phones have started getting cases but not sure which ones

          • +1

@adrianhughes1998: No OTA so far. It does have the clear case in the box. Also includes type c to audio jack dongle. All in all an incredible compelling package.

  • +2

Placed order when the special went live on 11/11 evening, and DHL delivered the phone this morning which is pretty fast!

The phone is indeed the global version, with a "Global Version" label and the words "8 Lite" (instead of the chinese for "youth edition") on the outside of the box. Phone came with MIUI Global and there is already an OTA update "MIUI Global Stable 9.6.5.0(ODTMIFD)" which I duly installed. Phone bootloader is locked - tried to unlock it but app requires the standard wait of 360 hours.

So luckily the horror stories of the phone not really a global version but with some "vendor ROM" seem not true in this case.
