  • I wonder if the ball is worth $44 more, from the APP15 discount of the cartridge only version? Hm, decisions, decisions!

    • Reviews from pax say decent addition

    • The only advantage I see is to get the free mew. Otherwise, it'll be tiring to use the ball everytime you're catching a Pokémon.

      • +2

So in order to catch em all, i need the ball?

        • No, there will likely be an event to get Mew later, or you can just trade with someone else.

        • +3

Not everyone can appreciate the rhyme.

    • +1

The ball can work with the mobile game like a Pokemon Go plus.

Apparently you can also transfer a Kanto region Pokemon in it as well and walk around with it, presumably for candy?

That said, neither of those features are very enticing.

    • What's the APP15 discount? Is it still valid?

  • Damn I just cancelled my Amazon preorder and ordered from Gamesmen. Because they're located in NSW and I assume will have quicker shipping to me on the Central Coast.

Hows Amazons pre-order shipping speed? I assumed the warehouse was in Melbourne thus may not be as quick.

    • +3

It's really luck whether or not you get it on release day or not. I live in sydney and one time I got my pre-order a day early, the other time a day late. If you really want to play it on the release date then buy from a local store. If you can wait until the following Monday then order from Amazon.

      • +4

I order all my games on Amazon and if it says expedited delivery on the description you will get it before or on release day. I have ordered about 6 games now and have always received the games on release date or before.

      • -1

I pre-ordered a game on Amazon AU once. And had to cancel the order 2 weeks after the release.

    • +1

Some people received FIFA a day before release.

    • +2

I think it depends, I preordered a switch game and it came 1.7 weeks later (took about 1.5 weeks for Amazon to ship it out and only 32 hours to arrive to me). I wonder if this is because I chose slow shipping and don't have prime? Or maybe they ran out? As usually they're much faster then that for normal shipping? Gamesmen has arrived to me on release day, so definitely much faster, if you're hoping to get it before a weekend I personally would pay a little extra for Gamesmen and not have to deal with the sadness of being hyped for a video game to play for the weekend and not get it.

      • -1

Yeh, I think I'll stick with Gamesmen for now. Would be nice to save some money but will be nicer to get the game on release day (without having to go to a store).

    • I live 5 hours east of Melbourne and have always received games on release day.

    • +1

Hows Amazons pre-order shipping speed? I assumed the warehouse was in Melbourne thus may not be as quick.

Very good I preordered RDR2 2 days before launch and it still got shipped in time to WA on launch so you should be safe.

  • I wonder if it will drop any lower with click frenzy or black friday!

  • +1

I'm completely torn with this game. I love Pokemon but do I need to play yellow again Pokemon Go style? I wish some early reviews would come out.

    • Press Start Australia's review will be out mid week! :)

    • -2

It'll be a game for casuals and flick to catch. If you love Pokemon Go - you'll love this game, if not don't bother wasting your money.

      • I wasn't much of a fan of Pokemon Go. Played at launch due to the hype around me but died pretty quickly.

This game on the other hand should be a great warm-up for the full release next year.

        • +4

The game has improved a lot since launch, if you were inclined to take another look at it. There are a lot of active communities as well (as long as you're not in a rural area anyway).

          • @swanny246: I unfortunately live in Darwin, the biggest city in the Northern Territory which is still considered rural to the rest of Australia! haha

      • I love Pokemon Go and play it daily. Not sure I want to then sit and play it again all evening though?

        • Absolutely agree! I'm a fan of the series so being able to play it on my Switch during commutes and monthly business travel will be nice :)

  • It's this going to be a full Pokemon game, like gold/silver or red/blue were?

    • +2

It basically a remake of Pokemon Red/Blue.

      • That's the second best possible answer, I'm buying it now!

        • +3

It's a remake of Pokemon Yellow.

        • +4

Except you can't battle wild Pokemon…

          • +1

            @tassietigermaniac: Huh, wtf?
Glad I didn't get around to ordering then lol.

            • +2

@idonotknowwhy: Wild battles are replaced by Pokemon being shown in the overworld and you catch them like Pokemon Go, with no battle. Trainer battles are still the same, as are battles with legendary Pokemon. Honestly I think it's going to be a great change. Wild battles were never very compelling.

              • @andehh: Amen. Considering I'll be able to see the Pokemon I'm about to catch before I catch it will be refreshing! No more spending hours looking for my beloved Scyther!

              • @andehh: So only able to level up from trainers? If I've beaten every trainer and want to go back and level up a pidgey from 3 to 60, I'd have to keep fighting the elite four with bait-and-switch?

I'd mostly me playing on flights with no internet. Does that work for this game?

                • @idonotknowwhy: Seems like you get LVL up candies from Prof Oak for catching surplus Pokemon. Your entire party also gains exp without the use of exp share.

                • @idonotknowwhy: You get EXP for catching Pokemon just like Sun/Moon.

Online features are pretty barebones so you're 100% fine to play it without internet.

  • +1

Amazon Pre-order Price Guarantee, means I'll only be paying $79 from this deal

    • Likewise :) Order has been updated with $99 price already and still showing $20 coupon applied. I think they are shipping after launch but can't complain at all for that price.

      • If you have Amazon Prime, it should have expedited delivery, which should ship out Nov 14.

  • Hmm. I ordered the regular edition for 59 w/ 10 of Credit from the Prime Day deals + my Cash Rewards Sign up.

40 for the controller is pretty good, but I'm not sure if the hassle is worth it.

Since I think I'd need to contact Amazon Support to cancel the order, get my credit back and then repurchase with CR…

  • I'd wait for this game to be out a couple weeks and for real impressions to come through. From what I've seen it does not look very good. The pokemon go influence is pretty terrible

    • +2

Yeah, the recent leaks have been a little bit disheartening.

      • Just gave it a try, I'll be giving it a miss.

I'm up to Viridian City and already have 3 bellsprouts and 2 pidgeys I don't want.
The anime sequences take way too long as well.

i like how I can play as a black guy in this one though. Try before you buy imo.

  • +1

possibly stupid question, but if i ordered this a few weeks back (at $118) i should now only be charged $99 right? no need to cancel and reorder at this price?

  • Will JB price match Amazon? Have some gift card on hand

    • +1

      They will price match Target
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/415510

      • Ya I just realised it would be less drama just ask them to Pm target. Thanks. feel better just grab one from local shop on the 16th

    • Target has the same price, shouldn't be an issue

    • Literally pre-ordered through JB this morning for store pickup before the Target post got put up. facepalm

I've set through the target catalogue and amazon link with request for them to pricematch.

      • link for target full catalogue? or the picture above. can not find hard copy from my local target and online one is old

        • @ce5himm I just sent the photo from the other ozb Target thread: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/415510

Haven't heard back from them yet, but will let you know how i go.

        • "We don't actually price match with pre-order items as the actual price may drop at release. JB Hi-Fi has a price guarantee for pre-orders, so if the price drops before the release date we will honour the lower price."

          facepalm

          • +1

@goldie123: Maybe hard to do with preorder. I will wait until 16th and walk into a JB with target catalogue. If they can, it's good, I can use my gift card. Otherwise order from amazon, I Do not mind play couple days later. Have other games to play. Lol

    • I had had JB price match Amazon previously (Skyrim & crash bandicoot)

  • -3

T_T paid 114.99 for this in June on AmazonAU

    • +4

Pre-order Price Guarantee! Order now and if the Amazon.com.au price decreases between your order time and the end of the day of the release date, you'll receive the lowest price.

    • +2

No you won't they will only charge you the lowerest

      • +2

No you won't. Amazon has a pre-order guarantee, so if the price falls before it is released, you pay the lower amount. Besides you haven't been charged yet.

  • Oh no. Use my MCD $20 voucher + cash back and get it for 68 and not get it launch day. Or grab from JB for 99 on Friday……ahhhhhhhh

    • +1

Just make a new account for free prime trial and also it’ll be $71.1 as cashback doesn’t include 10% gst so 99-20=79, (79/1.1) x0.11 = 7.9(cashback amount) and therefore 79-7.9= 71.1 (or shortcut 79x0.9=71.1)

      • Legit math bro!

Anyway, who am I kidding. Way too impatient to wait for it to arrive in the mail :p

  • do i need the pokeball to play it properly?

    • nope

  • Use Amex spend $100 get $15 back for an egift card, then use egift card to fund pre-order purchase to save an extra $15!

    $73.11

  • +1

Anyone who had a Prime order had it sent out yet? Says will dispatch on 14 November but hasn't yet for me.

    • +1

Also waiting, maybe tonight sometime hopefully. Spoke with CS and they assured me it would be delivered on time (ordered 13th yesterday morning)

    • My Amazon order now shows delivery on Tuesday Nov 20 to Melbourne (Prime Expedited Delivery).

      Anyone else?

      • Mine still says Friday (but also still says will dispatch today).

        • +2

Mine says that it is shipping soon and is arriving by 8pm Friday. I'm hopeful but doubtful.

          • +1

@3speon: Yeah same. Still haven't been charged yet and I ordered it a month ago.

            • +1

@hilman: I just got charged now for my order.

              • +1

@RichardL: Got charged this morning too but not very hopeful it's going to come tomorrow. Still hasn't shipped.

                • +2

                  @hilman: Same here.

Though my last order from Amazon AU, arrived in less than 24 hours from when I placed my order, so there's still hope.

                  • +2

@RichardL: Read Dead Redemption 2 shipped out about 9pm the day before for most people and arrived the following day

          • +2

@3speon: Mine has now been shipped.

        • Mine was posted yesterday at 4.30PM (Scheduled for delivery Monday). I had a different order sent from Amazon yesterday at 8.30am (scheduled for delivery today). Pre-order was placed on the 7 Nov. However, I did edit the order several days ago and change the payment method to gift card, and modify order to request gift wrap. After this change the order delivery schedule changed to Tuesday. Once this happened I removed the gift wrap from the order (several days ago) but it still seems to have effected the order within the queue. You live and learn!

        • +1

I got mine today. Pretty impressive, left the Sydney warehouse last night at 7pm and got to Melbourne at 1pm.

          • +1

@hilman: Got mine this morning which was better than I expected.

  • +1

Payment has been taken from my account.

Let's hope I get my copies tomorrow.

  • Received my order this morning.

  • I don't expect to see my copy till next week now. Pretty disappointing pre order since it was made months ago. My location should have received it day one like RDR2. Hm.

  • Can we price match the standalone game at Big W to JB Hifis $59 price tag, and then get the 10% friends and family discount on top?

    • Yep just did it then, got it for $53.9 with E gift card making it $51.20

  • I ordered on October 17 and it hasn't shipped yet, thanks amazon!

    • +1

Did you have prime? If you don’t have prime, even though it’s free shipping they just hold the item for 3-5 days then ship it, to punish you for not having prime ;) I got Prime ordered yesterday, shipped arriving Monday :)

      • Nah I don't have prime. But it did say that it would ship on the 16th and it didn't. Oh well, I have plenty of other games that I haven't finished yet anyway!

  • Preordered in October without Amazon Prime. My game was posted on Friday afternoon and received today in Perth.

Fairly happy with that given Australia Post was involved. They must have an agreement with Amazon because no packages from the eastern states ever arrive so quickly!

    • they use startrack service for overnight delivery from Melb.
