wait for the "mi mix 3" 5G :D

I was eyeing that one. It looks amazing.

Xiaomi will likely be banned from the 5G network in Australia though, akin to the recent announcement that ZTE and Huawei will be banned. Basically, the AU government doesn't want Chinese phones with potential PRC government backdoors on our 5G network. There will likely be a workaround, or perhaps policy reversal, but just food for thought.

They've been banned Huawei from building the network. I don't think they're banning the phones from using the network.

Yikes, completely misread that huh. Made my own logical leap from the images of phones on a lot of the articles to being about the hardware, not infrastructure. My bad.

        • US and Australia have been banning high end huawei from selling into the country unless parallel import. That's why you only see crappy huawei on major retailers

  • Why doesn't the global version Mi 8 flagship phone have B28? Is that correct or the description wrong?

Xiaomi phones are always made for the Chinese market in mind.
TLDR: a 'global' Mi8 is really no different from the Chinese Mi8, in terms of hardware. They just load them with different software — the international buyers get a version of the phone with Google on it. However they have the same basebands and same modem, they standardize everything to reduce cost and supply chain complexity.

    • Ahhh good, I didn't have to wait long for the "band 28" comment.

Xiaomi Mi Max 3 shipping dispatch time is 1 month from now…really?
Best to wait, Xiaomi phones are coming down, be cheaper in a month Im sure :)

    • Yikes, that's the one I've been eyeing too.

    • I'm waiting for that $299 mark. Really want the max 3. My max 2 seems a little off ever since I dropped it in the ocean (fun fact, it floats)

      • Why not go for pocophone? Much better value imo

          Screen size ma boy

No one who owns a Max cares for the Poco. We want her big, with dat big battery in the back. She goes for days.

Next option for me is the mix 3.. it's being offered to me for free, but the max still appeals more for what I use it for

      • if you use 10% off paypal giftcard and then bought during 10% ebay sitewide, you will get MiMax 3 (64GB model ofcourse) at around $310-ish.

        thats what i did :)

        • 10% off PayPal gift card?

        • I'm such a sucker for Mi Max 3. I paid full retail price (250 USD + 25 USD tax) from AliExpress for 64/4 version, a week after it's release. The seller even molested my phone and sideloaded it with "global" ROM. On the bright side, the bootloader is unlocked when it arrived. Straight up flashed Xiaomi.eu ROM.

          Totally worth it

          • @i7980x: i think you have a typo there. 64gb model rpp in china rmb is equal to aud 398 and i never saw it sold under rrp. actually on aliexpress they were around aud 450 with tax if i remember correctly.

was thinking to get that as well but i feel that price is too much for a xiaomi.
yeah mine comes with eu rom and all good

          • @i7980x: I have easy option to get it from China, but recent changes with Xiaomi prevent me from installing the global rom AND locking it again after.

            • @Salmando: lucky my eu is the last one (8.8.9) without roll back thingie.
i'll stay as long as possible on this rom.

              why relock?
no need to lock bootloader, australia banking apps are working fine.
