AMD Ryzen 7 1700X $229.90 Delivered @ Newegg

790

All-time low, likely due to stock clearance. This is part of the US Black Friday sales, but the deal seems to apply for us as well. Price is of course GST inclusive, and standard international shipping from Newegg is free for this item.

Note that this does not come with a cooler, but generally clocks a tad higher than the 1700 (as well as having its own high-end clock scaling as standard).

Enjoy!

EDIT: For those concerned with DOA returns, Newegg will cover return shipping in those circumstances. AMD's warranty for retail CPUs is 3 years, and is an international warranty.

People have been asking for motherboard recommendations in the comments, I've lifted these from TechSpot and then quickly priced them, but they check out:

El Medio (slightly cheaper via Amazon Prime)

    Jumped on this thanks.

Can anyone recommend a good RAM deal to go with this CPU? Looking for 2x8GB.

Anything in the 3000-3200 MHz CL14 through CL16 range. CL16 will likely be much cheaper.

      • I got one too, will stick a cryorig h7 on it. Now trying to work out what to do about a motherboard…
Any recommendations for a not to pricey motherboard for an 'ok' overclock?
If it was a little future proof that would be nice too.

AM4 is pretty well future proofed, so you're more looking between anything but the super budget mITX B350 and B450 motherboards.

Check the quality of the VRM (reviews), and just check it has all the bells and whistles in terms of connection speeds (eg. USB 3.1 Gen 2 or USB 3.2 Gen 2x2, firewire, etc).

@jasswolf: As an aside: do people still use firewire? I havent seen that one for ages!

          • @jasswolf: I'm looking for a Mobo as well, between X370 or B450. Any recommendations is much appreciated.

                @jasswolf: Thanks, I think I'll go for the B450 TOMAHAWK….it's a nice balance.

              • @jasswolf: @jasswolf (or anyone else, of course)

Using for general duties, with some Lightroom (daily, but not more than an hour) and irregular and light-duty video editing.

Any real reason to buy the Tomahawk over the B450m-BDV?

Any RAM suggestions to pair with the preferred MOBO?

                Ta.

@mickeyjuiceman: CL14 @ 3200 is going to be your optimum alongside CL14 @ 3000, but we're talking at most a 15% difference versus CL16, so if the price is ridiculous don't bother and just step down to CL15 or CL16. It's still not a great time to buy RAM here right now, but the prices in the US are starting to look very promising. For that, it might even be worth stepping up to heftier boards like the X370/X470, but I've not really looked into that, nor the likelihood of using something like Samsung B-Die and the manual timing tweaks you'd make.

The big reason for the Tomahawk is overclocking potency and extra ports/slots, though in your case it's 2 DIMM slots versus 4 in the mATX board. Grab the Gaming Pro Carbon if you want both, as well as BT 5.0 & AC Wi-FI.

@mickeyjuiceman: Whatever you do pick just make sure your ram will be compatible. There is a QVL list on the Asrock board under support on their site and as for MSI its a little hard to find so just google the model and QVL. Other than that hope you'r comfortable with the BIOS cause each brand has a different layout and everyone has different preferences for what they like.

I grabbed an Asus B350 Prime for $100 from MSY.

Older chipset, but a full size board at a decent price and should do everything I want.

I watched a 40 minute vid from Actual Hardcore Overclocking and the tldr is B450 MSI Tomahawk. but you might be able to find a x370 for cheap in which case i might go for that instead.

  • Would it be at all worth it going from an r5 1600 to this?

    • That would depend on your use case. You're not going to see much of a single-thread improvement, but an extra 4 threads is going to make a difference in a lot of scenarios.

Gaming will make use of the extra cores over time as well, but unless you have want for a second PC in your household, I'd just wait it out for 7nm, at least.
