$217 from Amazon Global (Can combine with 11% Cashrewards) making it $193 with free delivery for Prime members

    The disclaimer being

M2 variant also the same price https://www.amazon.com.au/1TB-Blue-NAND-M-2-SSD/dp/B073SB2MX…

      $193 after CashRewards.
      $178 after Amex $15 cashback.
$158 after Meccas Monopoly $20 off.

hmm $158 for 1TB has to be the lowest for M2 SSD so far?
We need a post of its own!

Doesn't let me apply my Monopoly $20 off voucher to it, weird.

        • arghh bugger - maybe it is only for Amazon AU?

      • FYI - the M.2 version is still SATA (AHCI) based. So it's no faster than the 2.5" SATA version. You'll need an NVMe version if you want faster speeds.

      • What is this offer of $15 Amex cashback with Amazon?

yeah nothing too special, don't be too upset if you miss out haha

  • Can anybody please advise if there is any consumer grade MLC based SSD available (incl.DRAM) without breaking the budget?

My Good Old Crucial BX100 (MLC based) is still rocking, but wanted to buy a new one. I believe even the Samsung 860 Evo's are TLC based.

    • …without breaking the budget?

You should have been here 2 years ago :-)

  • makes the amount apple charges for SSD upgrades seem even more outrageous

    • Yeah but most people have trouble turning on a PC, they’d have no idea how to upgrade the SSD themselves.

    • Not disagreeing with you about the markup.

It's important to remember, though, that the Apple SSDs are connected directly to the PCIe bus, i.e. NVMe, rather than using a SATA interface (like this one).
Also, they are NOT user upgradeable, as suggested by @smartazz104. They are soldered to the motherboard.

You won't find an NVMe 1TB SSD at anywhere near this price. SE has Samsung 970 M2 NVMe 1TB for $289.

      • They are soldered to the motherboard.

Ha. That does not surprise me.

  • This or pay a bit more for a 1TB 860 EVO?

    • +2

      Evo is a faster ssd

    • +1

Evo is faster and 5yr warranty (also higher TBW warranty)

    • My Evo M.2 500GB died last month after 2 years of use, but it was easy to get refund back from Samsung. I chose refund instead of exchange, so that now I can use the same amount I spent for 500GB to get a 1TB :)
