    from memory there are 2 english stations. But yeah, you don't buy it for that function.

      I've got plenty of english/western radio stations on mine.
      From memory, I just changed the DNS or something…. didn't have to 'hack' the device itself.

        Good to know. I have a Google Home near it and had read that there was no workaround so didn't really search on the issue.

    Pretty sure it only works with Xiaomi zigbee based products. I have one with a few lights, sockets and sensors etc, but it would be better if it worked with hue compatible products. The hue hub is expensive and other options like ALexa speakers are also expensive. I have decided to stick to wifi devices for the moment.

        It should work with Alexa. I run it with Google Home and Home Assistant. Alexa works fine with my Xiaomi Yeelights, I just haven't bothered setting it up with Echo - There are Google Homes through the house and just 2 Echo's.

        Alexa is almost instant at changing light settings and other control. Google has to think about it for a few seconds, but is more intelligent to talk to(Alexa is getting a lot better, and is more customisable with her skills). So I may end up with some more echo's if they get to the right price.

        Re reference to Alexa.
        The Alexa Amazon Echo Plus has a built in Zigbee module that is compatible with Philips Hue etc, but is not compatible with the Xiaomi system.

  Just get a raspi and install hassio if you already have the original gateway, it will be much more powerful.

    Yep. Doing so also lets you block the gateway from phoning home, yet still continue to add, manage and use sensors.

      The 3rd gen one isn't actually Xiaomi - its direct by Aqara, and whilst it is homekit compatible, it may not be backwards compatible with all xiaomi zigbee kit. (TBC)
