A significant number of the Sept manufacturing run has a faulty mic. There's a reddit thread.
I had to get mine exchanged. Ended up with silver instead of black because that's all they had left and I was flying out that evening.
Then why I was being negged by 5 ppl lol.

Mine was very very quiet/muffled unless I took them off and spoke directly into the mic. And even then it was muffled.
Swapped the pair and it's all good now.
@EnALup: Depending on where you bought it I suggest getting a swap from the retailer if possible.
I think the Oct ones are fine. There's a date code on the bottom of the box.
@elusive: Hmm just checked mine was Sept stock, but so far no one that called me has complained about poor clarity while using them. Or maybe it is, just they're not telling me :/
@UnderWaterLlama: You can call a voice echo service to test but in my case it was completely unusable - the other end couldn't hear anything at all most times.
Yours might just be fine. It's certainly an issue with a number of them but presumably not all (else I'd really be wondering about Sony's QC).
@elusive: Thanks for the heads up on Echo Service! During testing my voice sounds slightly muffled but not as bad as others hearing echos. So far isn't that bad but I'll test it over the next few days for any problems.

You don't know if they purchased them as gifts for staff nor do you know if they are out of work and purchased the ten to make a few dollars so they can keep up mortgage payments and nor do you know if that was the poster of the deal that purchased the ten.

You're right, I don't have proof they're profiteering but it sure looks that way. I don't know of that many bosses that would buy ten expensive sets of headphones for staff - some may not need it and others may miss out. And yeah I guess of those staff can see them but my point remains. Perhaps if OP sees this s/he can say if they bought ten or not.

Screw them too. They should realize they just bought the 80's Volvo Beige coloured XM3s. I need that colour because I want to upgrade my gold colour XM2. XM3 has better noise cancellation and my XM2 doesn't cut it.
Suggesting everyone if find a seller selling silver version on gumtree, act like very interested then ask for the colour, and then drop the sale because it's not black.

According to the law, yes. I feel for your family, but stealing is still wrong. Beg, borrow, do whatever else it takes. I don't think you'd be a horrible person for doing it, but you also shouldn't expect to avoid charges if you're caught.
