  • I bought it originally from rosegal. But looking at this site. Looks pretty identical and gimmicky? Same person but runs multiple site?

    • +2

I'm pretty sure Dresslily & Rosegal are owned by GearBest.

      • Explains why all the items are so cheap, and website, ads, email look similar

      • Sources please

      • The memory cards I ordered from Rosegal arrived in under a week and they seem genuine, my experiences with Dresslilly have been closer to 2 months, and crap products…

I get the 2 companies confused so I accidentally jumped at this deal, 25 business days is their max, after that I will be lodging a Paypal dispute… (I'm annoyed at myself for buying this) :(

  • +4

Can anyone confirm these are genuine?

  • Shipping time?

    • +1

I only bought from them once and delivery took for two months. Still there were a number of comments of people who didn't get their purchases after two months (re a battery charger). The fact they're very slow with shipping, hard to deal with, and how cheap this card is make me not to deal with them again.

Mankind will use X terabyte cards by the time your order gets shipped (and XX TB when finally delivered).

  • Any deals on 256gb?

  • +3

Would never buy anything from them anymore. Ordered a charger, took them 2.5 month to get it delivered.

    Dresslily? Sounds legit.

    • I actually bought few shirts few years back. Turned out really crappy shirts. Disputed and at least got half the refund.

      • Who got the other half of the refund?

  • Is there a way to avoid paypal?

We aren't able to process your payment using your PayPal account. Please go back to the seller's website and try using a different payment method

    • That's not a good sign.

      • Sorted that Paypal wanted to know my address and birthday and put my account on hold. But I'd still want to avoid Paypal as their FX rates rates are probably shadier than Mastercard.

PayPal shares your full name address etc with the seller.

If you want privacy, as well as security (security was what got PayPal started), you'll need a business/commercial PayPal account.

You can change your account from private to business for free from the one of the settings/options in your PayPal account.

All you need is an Australian ABN (which is easy enough to get) and then PayPal only provides your 'business name'and your ABN.

As for the exchange rates - you're right, PayPal has very high costs compared to other financial institutions (like a bank for example).

Once again, you can change that in one of PayPal's hard to find/hidden options.

It is set to use PayPal's exchange rate and fees by default.

You can turn it off, and then it's the bank that's linked to your PayPal account which will handle currency exchange for you on all PayPal purchases.

As more people are turning PayPal exchange rate options they have recently started introducing other fees as a percentage of all purchases (which are added to the currency exchange fees if you don't turn that off).

Google how to stop using PayPal exchange rates, and consider changing your account to a business one.

There is no difference between the two account types except the information PayPal provides to sellers, the fees are the same.

I have actually spoken to an Australian PayPal support representative about this.

@BooYa: Oh thanks. Remember setting 28degrees to handle FX transactions sometime back, after I read an ozBargain post. Just didn't use Paypal in the last 12 months.

            • +1

              @megadeth: YW.

It actually makes a lot of difference, even on small transactions.

Actually, I have two PayPal accounts - an Australian one and a US one.

Not for exchange rate differences (I just use the Aussie one with PayPal foreign exchange option turned off).

I use the US one for online purchases of geolocked content (US versions of Xbox, Hulu, Amazon Prime, HBO, Netflix, etc).

          • @BooYa: I have an operating business PayPal account and I didn't provide my ABN number

            • @Schmendrick: Interesting.

Oh well, that's even better then.

Although that may have consequences for GST purposes if the purchases are for business purposes.

But I'm only guessing here, because I haven't looked into that, since I only use my business PayPal account to buy geo-locked content using a VPN like US live TV/cable subscriptions, Netflix, Hulu, and purchases of physical goods from the US version of the Amazon store, etc.

With a mail redirection service in the case of Amazon US, and other 'physical' goods purchases that only ship to the US.

              • @BooYa: So you're saying PayPal reports to the ATO and collect tax from us?

All I did to set it up was use an email address and confirm my bank account.

If you are in Australia how do you create a paypal account in the USA?

                • @Schmendrick: Edit: I have deleted my detailed, step by step, answer. I have cut and pasted it to my notes. Is there any way for me to send it to you by DM?

                • @Schmendrick: Ok, I found a way to message you directly @ClimateBoogeyman but your ozbargain settings prevent me from sending it to you.

I have written a detailed 'guide' how to setup a US PayPal account from Australia, one that worked for me (after trying various different 'tricks' I read online, I used those hints to figure out a way to do it that actually worked).

I have it saved in a text file on my phone, but I don't know if posting such 'guides', which although perfectly legal, may break PayPal ToS (and therefore not be allowed here on Ozbargain).

I will send it to you if you like, but you'd need to change your Ozbargain account/profile settings to accept 'new conversations' (you can always disable it later).

Ps. To enable this, go to your profile, then click: Edit-Messaging (then put a check mark in the "allow private messages" field).

You don't want to avoid PayPal with sites like this…I would only use PayPal for this.

  • Ahh the daily MicroSD deal is here.

  • I order something from 1 Oct. Never heart of it again. 15ct I don't bother asking them but I will not buy from them again.

Since start buying from Chinese websites, I usually receive sth that I did not order but each time is a few cents and i never have time to check again

Purchased backpack from them. 2 months pass it hasn't been sent. When opened paypal dispute they offered exchange not refund. Never again.
