  • I am a Bigpond cable member and using Vodafone where the contract ended last week.
So if I port to Telstra, am I going to pay $39 pm for 30GB, what does the %10 off in the title mean? Sorry.

    • Normal price $49

  • are you able to get extra 5gb and cashback deal?
anyone asked for extra 5gb via chat after signing up?

  • Thanks OP; I just got 30+5GB, by asking for the 5GB in chat.

  • I contracted last week and asked several times for peace of mind on chat. Bum.

  • Just successfully got the Early Termination Charge waived and plan changed in chat.

  • Just got an email cancelling my order…

    Hi ,
    Re: order number:
    Thanks for your request.
This order has been cancelled. We'll refund your money, including any delivery charges, to the credit card you used to order.
If you'd like to order again, visit the Telstra Online Shop.
    See you soon,

    • Why was it cancelled? No second service?

      • Don't know - existing customer with Telstra internet/home phone too.

        I will follow-up Monday.

        • +1

Spoke to Telstra today (35 min on the ph.) – useless. No record of my reference order number.
Deal has finished. Cancelled my home bundle too as contract was up in Feb. 2019.

  • Opinions please.

I can recontract but will have to pay out my device charge. Long story short I'd be paying a total of $55 more up until May (when my existing contract runs out) to get the deal.

Trying to work out whether it's worth it for the extra data (currently only get 3gb a month!) and the eventual savings (currently pay $65/mth)

Or do you think it's worth waiting for a similar or better deal closer to May 2019?

  • Thanks for the post!! I also converted from my existing $49/25GB Telstra deal which had about 6 months to go in 12 month contract! Now paying $39 for 30GB on new 12 month contract

  • Just wasted 20 minutes with two different agents trying to authenticate my account didn't even get to ask about the offer. Gave them all the information they wanted and then they go we need to send you a security code to your mobile… A minute later they ask did you get the security code I respond no so they tried to get me to jump through hoops. Biggest telco in Australia can't send a security code..

  • Thanks OP. Managed to convert from my $49/20 GB JB Hifi deal to the $39 for 35 GB and peace of mind data. :) Went through 24/7 chat and completed everything in about 20 mins.

    • Got any tips I've tried this three times and gotten different answers from Telstra.

  • Also thanks to OP, also switched our 2 plans to 35GB data each via 24/7 Chat.

Signed up last weekend to the similar deal that didn’t include peace of mind data, some people had luck in chat getting it but I wasn’t able to. Had been able to get the extra 5gb for free though. Went on chat today and was able to get my plan updated to include the peace of mind data for free. So $39 for 35GB of data and peace of mind. Happy with that.

Did exactly the same thing as you, no luck with the initial chat on getting PoM, but successful with the 5GB. Then transferred over today to maintain 35GB data and PoM! Best deal yet with Telstra I reckon.

  • Still working, I just renewed

    Thanks OP!

  • Has anyone else been able to get the extra 10gb/mth (45gb total) if you dont take the peace of mind offer?

  • Hi guys, i have just signed up for $45 JB HIFI 50GB deal with $200 gift card last month. If i were to change my plan to $39, will they cancel my $200 gift card?

    • +1

      "early termination charges may apply"

Doubt you'll have the card cancelled but they may choose to charge you a termination fee which might cancel out the savings. You'll need to contact them and ask and then factor in whether the saving is worth giving up 15GB-20GB of data allowance (depending on whether you get 30 or 35GB) in order to gain peace of mind data and save $6 a month.

If they hit you with a fee I can't imagine its worth it unless you plan on using over 50GB of data ever and want to avoid extra charger (I dont think your plan has peace of mind data), in which case I'm not sure a 30GB plans the best option anyway and you're better off with what you have now or the current $59 plan given anything past the first 30GB will be usable but slow.

      • Thanks Smigit

I signed up with JB in September. Went on chat lastnight and reconstructed to this plan and used part of my gift card this morning without issue

      I did this … I signed up the $45 50gb and got the $200gc.

1 week later I signed up to the earlier $39 plan with 35gb data … and I was assured by the online chat that there is no termination charge.

jus that I do not have POM but that's ok as i do not think I will use more than 30gb anyway.

      • +1

If you don't need more than 30GB, why not save $6 a month? Enjoy that JB GC!

        • Thanks guys

  • Check your contracts people! I signed up for this but noticed nothing in the contract states anything about Peace of mind data being included. Chat confirmed it had not been added and wanted $10/mnth to add it (They have since updated their web site to say its not included on the $39 plan). I have a screen capture showing the original offer with the Peace of mind included in the $39 plan.

    • You have to be sure it's the Companion Plan. I received a text soon after I renewed with PoM.

      • I just clicked the buy now button under the deal on their site. It clearly says POM is included.

        • If you signed up directly from the Companion page, you should be sweet:

          https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/plans-and-rates/49-…

I received a txt from TelstraData stating (in part): Peace of Mind data option has been added to the mobile service.

It's also updated in my 24/7 app.

@quarrymaster: Update on this. Telstra chat would not budge to add the POM so unfortunately had to go the route of an offical complaint. Error was finally corrected by the resolution manager who admitted it was their fault in the end. Not good PR Telstra, i thought you had improved lately.

            • @pauliau: They do make you jump through hoops and I agree it's not good PR.

    • Would you mind sending me a copy of the screenshot?

I initially changed my current plan to the $49 plan with $10 credit online so I got $50 cashback through Shopback, then I saw the companion plan showing $39 for renewing a service with peace of mind so I signed up to that after. The rep I was chatting to was going to switch me to the companion plan as well but I had already done it myself so I didn't worry about it. My Telstra app updated my account to show I was getting 35gb (5gb christmas bonus) with peace of mind included.

Yesterday I checked my account and it's switched back to the normal $49 plan with 30gb data and no peace of mind included.

I chatted with Telstra again and now they are saying that I wasn't eligible for the companion plan so they have put me back to the original $49 plan. If I want peace of mind then it's $10 extra.

      • Do you have another Telstra service? This is what you needed from the webpage.

This plan is available as an addition to the existing services you already have with Telstra. Eligible existing services include:

        Post-paid Mobile
        Post-paid Mobile Broadband (MBB)
        Post-paid Home Wireless Broadband (WBB)
        Post-paid Fixed Broadband (FBB)
        Post-paid Fixed Voice
        Post-paid Bundle
        Foxtel from Telstra

        • I did see that but I only have the 1 service. The rep I was chatting to didn't mention that and was going to switch my account over. I do have the one number service activated for my watch so I thought maybe that's why I could do it.

          • @shaun82: I think you're out of luck then. You paying $39 or $49? If you're not getting POM, should at least get it for $39 and hopefully you'd get 35GB with the bonus. They should've advised you. But it you still got math Shopback $50, at least that's something!

I'm not sure if Cash Rewards worked however, haven't seen it acknowledged. I noticed when clicking through, it takes me out from telstra.com to m.bigpond.com which is not covered by Cash Rewards.

            • +1

@quarrymaster: I've been advised it's $39 but $49 with peace of mind included. The shopback site has tracked the Telstra order just need to wait for it to go through. It's currently showing as pending so hopefully that works.

Still getting an extra 10gb data for $10 less than I was paying before is quite good. Just a shame that they removed the peace of mind though.

              • +1

@shaun82: Just an update on this. After chatting with Telstra again I managed to get the companion plan with the peace of mind included for $39.

I was able to get this plan yesterday, I was on a telstra Sim Only Business plan, and they told me only consumers can get the deal, there was nothing that suggested this on the webpage. They finally gave me the $39 deal with 30Gb and I still have my data share sim which was $0 to use.The deal is still available on the Telstra website.

  • Just got this Deal over chat with no issues. Updated my current sim only plan to the $39 30GB with POM and also added on the free 5GB from the Christmas deal

  • Updated my plan to $39 35GB (include 5GB bonus) just now. No POM included.

Check carefully that they switched your plan. They screwed me.

I met the conditions and switched my plan. I got to their confirmation page and took a picture but it didn’t include an order number. Telstra 24x7 showed a sudden 30GB allowance.

A few days later I haven’t received any emails or paperwork from them and it has switched back to 15GB. I spoke to online chat and they said there’s no record of any order having taken place.

    Angry.

I've since had trouble having Telstra honour the deal. I should have taken more screenshots of the order page and the final page because they said that the deal doesn't exist and they won't accept it from OzBargain either.

    • The link still works for me, could you reorder it?

    • That’s nasty!

    • yup, telstra tried to f*** me on this one. ended up in live chat for 30mins before i got it resolved (they weren't gonna honour it but lucky for me i took a screenshot. had to upload it to an image hosting website and link it to the chat representative). after all was sorted i asked for my first month free and they said yes.

i guess it all worked out?

  • Bunch of dogs!
They upgraded one of my numbers but not the other although both were applied at the same time while the website mentioned POM is included!

They said that "Please be advised that Companion plan will only be eligible to you if you have a two services and with that two services only one mobile is eligible for the Companion Plan as the other one will serve as it's Dependent."

I also just found out that I will be paying $49 because I have POM included!

    Load of crap!

I have order reference numbers but not screenshots! I'll be calling TIO and when this is done I'll be demanding 5GB bonus for the inconvenience

    • Can anyone help out by posting screenshots of the website before they edited it?

      • I have one showing the deal. If you want to PM me your email and i’ll Send it through.

        • +1

Update, after raising a case with TIO.
Telstra not only agreed to honor the deal but I negotiated the 60GB plan from $59 to $39 :D
