  • Never cheapout on PSU.. I am not sure why these are so cheap ?

    • It's because the shipping cost is not taking into account. 😵

      • I just ordered MOBO, CPU, and RAM from newegg - all free shipping.

        • +1

Just curious, do you order them with separate accounts, one by one?

          • +1

@O O: No, I just did one order. Apparently everything I bought was eligible for free shipping.

  • This is not eligible for free delivery So add $39 for shipping. still a good price.

  • Mine says Shipping: AUD$40? What am I doing wrong?

    • OP made a mistake. Title now corrected.

  • Great price. They only thing to be aware of is that they are only 80+ rated. But a steal at this price nonetheless.

  • OP, Newegg doesn't ship this PSU for free!

  • When people say never cheap out on psu, why?

All the psu is designed to do is supply power to components, you can buy a 10,000w psu (if it existed) if you’d like but if your components only take 500w that’s all it would draw.

In terms of the 80+ ratings of silver and gold, that’s just how efficiently in runs in terms of converting 240VAC into 12V/5V DC.

Your CPU, motherboard and graphics card doesn’t run any better using a gold vs silver…

Good PSUs filter noises on the AC line and deliver consistent DC electricity free of voltage variations. They deliver up to (and usually above) the advertised amount of current without stability issues. When a good PSU fail due to AC undervoltage/overvoltage/surge/spike, or DC overload/shortcircuit, it dies without dumping the charge in its capacitors to kill you MB, CPU, RAM, GPU, USB, HDD, SSD, monitor, etc. Good PSUs use quality electronic components so they can offer you 10-year warranties.

      • Most modern psu have protection against undervoltage, overvotlage and surge protection though. Hence why I still don’t see the advantages of getting a gold over bronze or silver, especially not for the argument of better efficiency and thus cheaper electricity costs. You would have to be paying out of your teeth for electricity to even make marinal differences.

        • Don't conflate "don't cheap out on the PSU" with "buy an overkill PSU". If you load is only 300W or so, like most gaming machines these days, then don't bother getting 750W or more of PSU - get a 450W or 500W PSU, so you're sitting in peak efficiency at load, and splurge on a reputable and reliable brand (e.g. SeaSonic, or perhaps EVGA).

Another reason to buy Gold or better is that the fan is less likely to have to spin up to dissipate the heat the PSU is producing.

        • Whilst I agree, I was justyfing why this model is cheaper than others, other than the fact that it's on special

          • @giovannip: I'm not sure who you're replying to - the only previous comment I can see from you seems to imply that these PSUs aren't Gold rated, although they are.

  • Thanks OP. I haven't purchased from Newegg before but the process was easy and the delivery times stated are very good. Modular is great for cable management. Strangely excited about a new PSU.

  • Why would you need 1000W ever?

    • coin mining, maybe? 😀

    • top parts OC plus all the fan and pump?

  • +1

    Bought the 850W last night.
