If you're going overseas , I'd highly recommend you take out proper comprehensive travel insurance.

But if you prefer to take the risk - I found this link from medibank that gives you 2 weeks of overseas MEDICAL only travel insurance ($250 excess) . Make sure you read the PDS

You're eligible for 2 weeks FREE International Medical Only travel insurance^, which includes unlimited overseas hospital and medical expense cover1.

To activate this offer, simply enter your travel details. For trips longer than 2 weeks, just pay the difference for the additional days. You also have the option to upgrade to comprehensive cover.

^Based on a 14 day, international medical only policy with a $250 excess

~ The premium of the policy will be subtracted from the full price of the policy for the duration selected. So if you purchase a 17 day policy, you'll only pay for the difference between a 14 day policy and 17 day policy.

1 - Medical cover will not exceed 12 months from the onset of the illness or injury. Reduced limits may apply for customers 70 years or over. Limits will be shown on the Certificate of Insurance. Medical evacuation cover subject to claim approval.

2 - Conditions apply to cancellation cover. Only applies to the International Comprehensive and Domestic policies. Reduced limits may apply for customers 70 years or over.

3 - Item limits apply. See page 11 of Combined FSG/PDS for more information.

4 - Cover is included for your children or grandchildren identified on the Certificate of Insurance and travelling with you on your Journey provided they are not in full time employment, are financially dependent on you, and they are under 21 years of age.

  just tried it, need to be an existing medibank customer - requires medibank membership number when entering personal details.

    I contacted chat. It was targeted so they did not expect it to get out to others. So non Medibank members cannot participate. Also I just put in details for 3 week Japan trip - had to add comprehensive plus skiing/snowboarding option. Even with the two weeks free it was more pricey than my normal health fund (HBF) so for all those interested, make sure you do the maths!

    Just because you're not a member.

    For members this is pretty much free travel insurance, I know very limited cover but it doesn't cost you anything.

  Just bought policy for bali last night. Paid $85 for two of us for single trip policy. Called them today and mentioned this offer. Steve from their call centre was very helpful and was able to cancel that old policy and re issued new one for free. $85 will be refunded in next 48 hours. Really happy with their service.
