  • It a good price for a mechanical keyboard. I got RGB version of Gigabyte

It has no backlight unfortunately. For this price you can buy some less known brand from Gearbest with backlight. Thanks for posting.

  • Modern island-style layout

The keys also appear to floating meaning you can remove the the keycaps from the switches using a key remover and get rid of all keyboard filth without worrying about PCBs or taking the keyboard apart (other than removing keys).

I will never buy another keyboard without floating keys.

    • does floating keys mean I can just sweep under the keys to clean the keyboard? Like as in, the keys aren't recessed into the keyboard frame?

      • Visit https://www.gigabyte.com/Keyboard/FORCE-K83#kf and scroll down to "Modern island-style layout". The product photo will answer your question.

Yep, there's just a flat slab with the switches attached to it.

I have the Gigabyte Force K-83 (with Red switches) and here are my pros and cons -

    Pros:

    • Black, fits in any office setting without the boss gawking at its design, like many mechanical keyboards out there.
    • Feels super nice and smooth to type on, without the need to jab keys like a regular keyboard.
    • Not much louder than a regular one too.
    • Heavy, won't move/clack easily.
    • Has Windows Lock key - disables the Windows key, preventing accidental presses.

    Cons:

    • Prone to dirt/dead skin/ dust due to open structure of the keys.
    • White lettering gets dirty easily - turns from white to grey after a month (even after I wash my hands often).
    • Menu key (between right Alt and Ctrl keys) is replaced with the Windows Lock key.
    • I'd add small footprint as a pro.

      And disagree with your con:

      Prone to dirt/dead skin/ dust

The floating switch (you call it open) design means the keycaps can be removed with a keycap removing tool (or fingers …) and it can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner.

  • Good price if they are genuine Cherry MX!

$2.10 more for RGB backlit, same brand @Amazon US via Amazon AU

    • +3

From previous discussion about this RGB keyboard (GK-XK700), the consensus is that it does not use Cherry MX switches but Gigabyte OEM TTC switches.

      • +1

Hmm I dont know about that but if you want feedback then I can safely say even if this keyboard has OEM TTC switches, I feel these are better than logitech rubbish romer-G switches. More tactile feedback and softer press with this keyboard (I'm currently using it).

Thanks for providing your personal experience. It is much more helpful to potential buyers than any amount of advertisements.

I am not dismissing the quality of this keyboard or its value. Only that it is a little unfair to say "$2.10 more for RGB" without also mentioning that one uses Cherry MX and the other uses OEM TTC.

        • Thats a joke right? Romer-G switches are far superior to any other oem mrch switch ive used other than cherrys

          • @sk3iron: Personal preference really. I have a Logitech G613 keyboard next to me collecting dust, I don't think i will be swapping back to Logitech as my main keyboard. it will be a linux on dex keyboard though.

  • I can't decide - red or blue. I type I game.

    • +3

You'd be better off with a brown then which is a compromise between both.

    • +1

personal preference. Someone once told me they enjoy typing with red more than blue or brown. It really hard to tell which one you like until u use it for like a day. I tried to test it out at the shop but it was damn hard to tell.

  • I would buy if they were brown switches.

  • I know the description says reb/blue but the photo on the add is black.

Will this mean the keyboard be black, red or blur?

    I need a black one

    • +1

Do you mean the actual plastic colour or the switch type? Red and Blue are types of switch. Keyboard is black in colour.

      • What does switch type mean?

        • +1

It means you're going to need to spend a couple of minutes familiarising yourself with mechanical keyboards.

        • +1

Completely different key response. Blues are clicky
          Reds are light and smooth
          Blacks are heavier reds
Browns have a bump like blues but not clicky
There are others, but you want to do some reading. Cherry MX are the main brand, but lots of cheaper clones exist (which generally vary in feel)
