Found this and purchased for my husband for Christmas - no more measuring tapes for home renovations!
Seems a pretty good price for Bosch stock, 50m laser measure. Can be adjusted from feet to metres (metric) for Aussie use. For the same price you'd get a cheaper 20m one at Bunnings. Total Tools also stocks Bosch but they are $140 for 40m laser measure.

  • We just had a kitchen designer come around yesterday that had one of these. Seemed pretty awesome.
He reckoned every home owner should own one…

    • tempted to get one. but not sure how much i would use it. haha….. what is the original price?

      • +4

I had it in my Amazon shopping list and was $104 until today

        • Deal finishes at 7pm tonight apparently

      • +18

"Hey Honey, did you know this closet is 3 square meters?"
"Hey Honey, did you know this hallway is 10.34m long?"

        So much use!

    • hey there, do you know if he was able to convert it to metric measurements by any chance?

  • +1

    foot? what century is this!
Can we change that to 50m?

  • I'm interested but either have to pay $11 postage or to get Amazon prime ongoing membership to enable the 'free' (cough cough) shipping I have to pay $84 per year (USD?). Is there any special promos that people know about to get a better Amazon membership?

      • Cheers thanks for that link. Much appreciated.

    • +2

Here in Australia, Amazon Prime will cost $6.99 per month, or $54 per year for a membership. As an introductory offer, up until 31 January 2019, Amazon Prime membership in Australia will only cost $4.99 per month.

It easily pays for itself, even with pretty much one purchase per month.

      • +1

Oh I calculated the $6.99 x 12 coming to get my figure. Didn't realize there was an annual discounted rate. Thanks for the update. Sounds a bit more palatable. Cheers.

  • Thanks OP.

This will make a great Christmas present for my Dad who has everything.

    • +19

Why does he need two of them?

      • +10

        Good one Dad.

      • +2

        Measure twice, cut once.

  • +1

For those who are thinking to replace the old tape measure with this digital measure - DON'T. There are situations this digital measure does/can not work.

    • +2

Could you elaborate bit more on that?

      • +4

Not so great outdoors. This of it as a supplement to a tape measure not a replacement.

      • +1

Correct, the laser has to hit a surface to measure distance. Not ideal if you want to measure the top of a door to the bottom (not floor) for example.

      • +1

Situations where there are no opposing walls, for starters.
Also if the wall isn't perfectly flat and perpendicular, you can get a measurement at an angle which can be quite a bit longer.

    • +9

      I agree, mostly.

I'm a tradie and I know that laser distance measurers are not a complete replacement for tape measures, however they can get highly accurate measurements for at least 90% of the time I need to measure something, and they do it much quicker especially for long measurements.

I have the DeWalt pocket laser ($31 at Bunnings) which is about the size of a match box, and I much prefer to use it for longer measurements ie 4 or 5 metres, rather than running the tape out along the floor or worse, along the wall with or without assistance.

      • For home use/DIY would you recommend this or your cheaper DeWalt one?

        • +1

I found the Dewalt one inaccurate (by 1-2cm at 80cm length). I'm not sure if I got a dud.
Or, maybe my tape measure is wrong. :)

          • @tangcla: tangcla, must be a dud. Shouldn't be as inaccurate as 10mm at 800mm.

        • For home/diy use I'd certainly recommend the DeWalt pocket laser over anything more expensive and/or bigger, unless you need real-time measuring. It's a ripper of a little thing. My unit reads distances as being about 6mm over actual distance, which is consistent be it 1 metre or 4 metres, so I can keep that in mind if it really matters, but gee, 6mm rarely makes a difference especially for diy use like picture hanging for example.

I chose this unit for it's size. I already have a lot of things in my pockets and in my toolbox. Smaller units are more practical to use and carry.

  • Thanks!!! Great post. Bought

new iphones have this already feature. so think twice before u pull the trigger

    • +1

New iPhones have a laser in them?

      • They use AR to calculate it.

      • their camera has AI that can measure, it worked well when i tried it.

        • +8

And how accurate is it! You may as well measure with a potato because it will be as accurate as the iPhone.

        • +1

It doesn’t work well at all.

      • A tape measure, next year's model will have Ultrasonic measurement and the following year laser measurement.

    • +2

iphone measuring is highly inaccurate in its current state, great little gimmick but no use for DIY/Professionals

  • always wanted one of these, bought one for myself as a Christmas present, thanks!

  • +3

Can you please speak to my wife, she keeps buying me socks and jocks for Christmas

    • +4

Maybe you should speak with your wife - communication is the key in any relationship.

    • +2

Haha sure send me her number!
it's kind of for me too..he insists on wanting to self measure and install plantation shutters so I think this device will save my sanity and our bank balance as trying to measure with a tape is a bit sketchy!

      • +2

Many blokes think they get a better result when they self measure.

  • I have an earlier model Bosch and it is superb tool

  • Thanks @leelee, bought one, will think later about doing something useful with it

  • Thanks OP
I often have to do site plans & draw them up in Vectorworks.
Have used the next model down that my work got from Bunnings & it’s been reliable, although limited to 20m. This one will be great with the longer range.
I’m already with Amazon Prime, so this price is a steal.
    Cheers. :-)

  • +2

Just bit of realworld feedback about this model. I used it for about 4 months on site and other than the good accuracy, I found it lacking and bought a P7 meter from Suaoki. Much better with the features it provides and build quality.

Niggles I had with the Blaze One

-Screen doesn't rotate when its horizontal. You have to tilt your head.
-LCD viewing angle is terrible. When its about 50-60^ the contrast of the text begins to fade to blacklight.
-Has a splash proof /dust rating IP54. Which I doubt as the flimsy battery door isnt sealed.

    • difference?

      • has a few extra features like addition/subtraction, area, volume etc. I went with the GLM35. Seems like it has some handy features.

  • +2

Got one of these for work. They work great indoors but outside it does not work at all.

Edit: ahh wait, mines a different model so not sure how this will function outside.

  • there are lots of laser tapes around . decide what distances you need , and some have a spirit level function so they can also measure angles and inclinations.

I had to measure distance from power pole to meter box on new power upgrade / install which was longer then 40M, heck even inner city backyard can easily be 30M,

indoors not such a big issue, few people would have home 40M long inside.

  • Blaze One Laser? Can this start fires too?

  • -1

If it is us stock, does it only display in ft ?

Any option to change it to meters or cm ?

  • if you own an android phone, this has been handy tool for me CamToPlan.
I dare say the Bosch unit is acurate but a backup never hurts.
