  • Any knowledgeable folk able to lend a hand? I have an 8 year old that is really keen on a drone for Xmas, but I'm not sure if I should be getting something like this or the Ryze Tello From JB-HiFi.

    He has had some very basic experience with smaller toy drones.

    • +1

      The Tello being a DJI product will be excellent build quality although this seems really good value for the money at this price.

      I would recommend looking at the Parrot range of small drones (MiniDrones etc) which also double as educational toys as they can use Tynker to learn programming and write basic game apps.

    • +1

      Tello gets anywhere from 10-13mins of flight time, which is pretty is at least 25% more than the quoted time on this.

      You can also get spare batteries ($19 from officeworks; order online) for Tello and it looks to be easier to swap comapared to the Hawk.

      You do need a mobile phone or tablet to control the Tello though where as this looks to come with a controller.

      Id give it a miss, my drone at this price point was supposed to have a 6 axis gyro built in, but even though it does, you still need to play with the trim, get any wind at all and the thing just goes nuts and flies off, i saw someone flying one of the DJI drone next to mine, the thing was stable, able to hover on the spot no problems, didn't move an inch, mine just drifted all over the place, couldn't get it to just hover. makes flying it extremely difficult.

      its fun and all, but I'll be doing much more research on the next one.

      • Does it have altitude hold or is it all manual?

        • think it was all manual, but seemed to hold altitude pretty well… dont remember there being a button for it… (its been a few months since i've used it)

    Hey OP what is the $10 coupon you mention?

    • Thanks I just got my coupon!

    • Won't me stack the coupons though.

  • These two coupons don’t stack.

    Tried it last night

  • Why did we ever allow them to name 720p as HD?!

    • That’s because 720P was classified as HD before 1080P even existed.

  • Sorry I brought instore and since I already used my wicked code for something else so the sales person just gave me a better discount ($44).
    I'm not aware those two coupons not stack together in the system.
    I ended up got it with $34 ($44 with $10 coupon code)

    I never brought any drone so see this one have HD camera so with this price I just want to try.

    BTW:
    480p = SD (Standard Definition)
    720p = HD (High Definition)
    1080p = FHD (Full High Definition)
    4096p = UHD (Ultra High Definition)

  • Anyone know how the deal with spare batteries or goggles? Available at decent prices? Can you do FPV flying? I'm guessing Google cardboard, or something better?

    Sorry, friend is buying emergency Christmas present, I'm not across this stuff.
