  • Yeah I recently got 4TB WD portable off amazon sale, so there's definitely better out there - but still not too bad. Lot of people seem to have a problem with Seagate though.

    I prefer WD Passport.

    • I’ve always bought WD but have had issues with two of their 2tb portables. They both developed a clicking sound and I lost all data on one cause it became useless but the second one occasionally gets picked up when it’s not clicking.

Staying away from all 2tb wd because of this. Have a 4tb still going strong and some 2tb Seagate that haven’t had any issues

      • I work with technology, the main problem behind hard drive "dying" is user!
Users drop the hard drive, leave it in places where there is a lot of vibration, they move the hard drive while it is on, all the wrong things.
I used Seagate my entire life but here in Australia, WD seems to be the best hard drive as long as you take care of it :)

  • An external USB drive is a good place to start for backing up your data. The conventional wisdom by tech experts on backups is known as the 3-2-1 method. Basically you want:

3 copies of any data you don't want to lose.
2 different mediums it's stored on (so 2 different drives in your computer, for example).
1 copy kept offsite, to prevent against disaster. Let's say an asteroid strikes your house or a tornado hits it, you want a copy somewhere else so you can retrieve it.

    • This guy Seagates

    • If an asteroid strikes your house or a tornado hits it you're likely to have bigger concerns then your data? LOL

Unless it's all your photos or your huge cats video collection

  • Got one previously and used it to upgrade my xb1x to 2tb.

    • I'd posit it is un-ozbargain-ian to criticise anyone for spending less money than you.
