1480

Open NEW Suncorp Bank Account with a linked Visa Debit card between 1st Dec 2018 and 31st Jan 2019.
Took me about a minute to open account with online verification.

Use Apple pay on 5 separate transactions by 31st March 2019 with the linked Visa debit card, to get a $50 cashback.

T&Cs: https://www.suncorp.com.au/banking/help-support/ways-to-bank…

Note

- No code to enter just click through and satisfy the conditions (I guess!)
- Update - After about 10 minutes from Bank account opening, I was able to register for Suncorp App (Benefits - for egiftcard deals). Also as per this comment https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/422878#comment-6691569, using the browser on computer I can add the Woolworths $500 egiftcard and get to checkout/payment page.

Eligible Transaction Account includes the following Suncorp Bank accounts:
Everyday Options Account
Everyday Basics Account
Everyday Essentials Account
55 Plus Account
Cash Management Account
Wealth Cash Management Account
Freedom Access Account
Access Equity Account

    • My bad, stated in T&C

      1. Limit of one (1) Gift per Eligible Customer, regardless of how many times they make a Qualifying Purchase.

Received my debit card in the mail today. The clowns cut off the last two letters of my surname. And my surname is only 6 letters, not as if they ran out of space. I obviously entered it correctly otherwise how did they verify my identity online? If they can't even get that right then I wonder what else they're doing wrong to customers??

    • +12

      lol you big hor

  • +1

Anybody else have to ring Suncorp to verify their card for Apple Pay. 10 minutes on hold so far.

    • +1

I was able to activate with a SMS code

      • Yep, same. Just verified with sms

      • +1

Mine doesn’t have option to verify by sms. Only by phone 😵

    • -1

yes was on hold for over 5 mins then seen other methods clicked on that and choose sms hang up. did my 5x 1 cent coles apple pay now 2 days later i get a sms saying to call suncorp to activate apple pay again. if i just ignore it as ive already done my 5 purchases will i still get my $50 or do you still need to be active and still have the card loaded to apple pay at time of $50 payment?

      • I made my 5 payments and then removed card from Apple Pay.

  • So these guys send me the visa debit card but it did not require activation as it was already activated. Isn't this a security risk, what if it got lost in the mail and I already had money in it which someone could use via paywave? They do take security a bi lightly what with 8 characters no special character password and pre-activated cards

  • Getting error message:

    Whoops, something's gone wrong
We have experienced a technical error, and are unable to proceed with your application. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes.

  • Can anyone confirm what apple pay shows up as on your transaction history. I only have an iPad to use apple pay, and i'm not sure if my app store purchases count because after I added my card to apple pay it asked me to add a card to the app store. It's coming up as APPLE PTY LIMITED SYDNEY AUP.

    • +1

Transactions conducted via Apple Pay will show up as the merchant. In the case of your App Store purchases, it is not processed through Apple Pay so will not count towards the 5 transaction requirement of this offer.

      • Thanks for clarifying! It was an in-app purchase and I just assumed it would work like android using google pay.

        • Yeah while the Apple Pay and the App Store purchasing process now look very similar unfortunately Apple does not use Apple Pay on the iTunes Music Store or for Apple Music Subscription the App Store the Mac App Store or iCloud. However they do use it for purchasing hard products in their app and on the web.

    • I only have an iPad and based on some advice above I made 5x donations to charity using the Shout for Good app using Apple pay.

No $50 yet but I assume it'll take a while.

      • Thanks! might do that instead :)

        • That would be my post from earlier here and is a reasonable option if you've got no other choice or need to use any of the other apps. Otherwise you could switch the $50 out for gift cards or maybe get some food delivered.

  • Anyone tried to transfer money from this bank account to another bank? What a nightmare!!!

It wants an ETP which is apparently a secure password that they mail to you after 3-5 days, or you have to pay $20 for a security token? Just to make a simple bank transfer!?!!? Surely a joke…

    • there is an app you can download and it is free.

      • Thanks for that, much easier!

Crazy that they would have this restriction in place from a web browser but not on the app.

    • They are removing the ETP from 16 January.

  • Anyone received their $50 yet?

    • +1

I haven't yet but I only did my 5 transactions a few days ago. Can take up to 45 days to get the $50

"The credit under this Offer will be applied within 45 days of the Eligible Customer satisfying the Qualifying Purchases."

  • -1

So I’ve made 5 transactions, when should I expect the 50$ in my account?

    • Literally answered in the comment directly above yours. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/6788483/redir

Suncorp Apple Pay™ "$50 Cash Back" Offer Terms and Conditions

7.Eligible Customers who make the Qualifying Purchases will receive a gift of $50 AUD credited via a Visa TC20 transaction directly to the Eligible Customer’s Visa Debit Card that is provisioned in the Apple Pay app ("Gift"). The credit under this Offer will be applied within 45 days of the Eligible Customer satisfying the Qualifying Purchases.

So essentially once all your transactions have gone off pending and have cleared the money should be paid within 45 days from the last eligible transaction clearing.

Did you open the Suncorp account online or through the phone? I receive an error when I try online. Have tried many times.

        • Online. And it went ok if you could be verified online. Otherwise you would be required to provide ID at the branch for the account to be opened, which according to Tony may still be eligible for the bonus if you satisfy other TnC.

  • +1

Ridiculous….i still havent received my card. I applied at the beginning on Dec
I called to follow up last week and they said the card was just being made and would be mailed to me this week…

    Card replacement fee is $12.

Never seen this nonsense with any other bank.

  • Hi can anyone recommend a qualifying Suncorp account for kids under 18 years of age?

    • +1

How old? I'm guessing you want to take advantage of the $50 offer?

If so the person would need to be 16 or older as that's how old you need to be to be eligible for a debit card to work with Apple Pay and live near a branch as you can only open accounts online if 18 or older and it sounds like you need a parent or guardian if below 18.

The three transactional accounts that under 18's could open are.

Everyday Basics Account (Account with no monthly account fees and is the account the bank recommends on the kids banking page)
Everyday Options Account (Normally has a monthly account keeping fee but there is an ongoing waiver at time of post.)
Everyday Essentials Account (If the person meets the other criteria)

Account comparison page can be found here one should also consider all the fees listed in the terms and conditions. If you're looking for this to be a full-time account I would suggest looking for another bank. If it's just to redeem the current offer pick the account with the least impact.

      • Thanks so much Tony. It is dual purpose for my 17 year old to go to Uni with the $50 bonus from Suncorp :-) however since it cannot be opened online I do not think she is qualified to earn the $50. Am I reading it right? I may need to look elsewhere for a high interest transaction account that encourages kids to save. Cheers Tony!

        • Thanks so much Tony. It is dual purpose for my 17 year old to go to Uni with the $50 bonus from Suncorp :-)

Personally I wouldn't want to push this bank on anyone for daily use in my opinion there is much better options out there.

however since it cannot be opened online I do not think she is qualified to earn the $50. Am I reading it right?

As far as I'm aware it's not restricted to customers that open accounts online, I'm sure you can try to open account and then be pushed off to the branch for manual verification by starting the application process online.

But there's nothing in the offer terms that I could see that restricts it to bank accounts opened online.

I may need to look elsewhere for a high interest transaction account that encourages kids to save. Cheers Tony!

In my opinion introduce your kid to the utility model and not have any loyalty for any one bank. Best bank best banking product for whatever situation you're looking for. Given what you have mentioned you will be looking for a decent transaction account with one bank and a good savings account/strategy with another.

To help with transactional accounts I think the poll conducted every year on OzBargain would be helpful https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/354615
For savings accounts the spreadsheet and discussion on whirlpool would be where I would be taking a look https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2558805&…

          • @tonyduffe: Thank you Tony for taking the time to explain it so thoroughly. Much appreciated. I think the Orange Everyday is a good one for transaction and interest for my 17 y.o. You are a wealth of knowledge. Thanks again!👍

  • Is there a minimum $ spend for each qualifying apple pay transaction?

    • +2

No, one cent is more than sufficient.

Self check out split payment: https://twitter.com/TapDownUnder/status/1080401862283558913

      • Did he get the $50 reward?

        • Based on the terms and conditions I would not think they had received the $50 as of yet.

The terms and conditions that govern this offer do not have any restrictions on one cent transactions and they would be considered eligible payments if they were made with Apple Pay, The terms for this offer also state they have up to 45 days from the last eligible payment to give you your $50. See my reply here

        • +1

Yes, landed in my account last Friday.

  • Is the transaction showing up as "VISA PURCHASE" when paid with Apple Pay? Or does it shows up as Apple Pay in the transaction description ?

    • It only shows as VISA PURCHASE. There is no way of knowing whether it is Apple Pay from your account Transaction Details.

      • Hmmm yea that why i was abit worried as well, as i did use apple pay . all good if that is what you're seeing as well.

  • Hi guys,

My card has come in mail and I have set up apple pay.

How exactly can I do the split payment at woolies or coles for the 5 cents.

Sorry if its a stupid question!

    Thank you

    • +1

use the self checkout terminals, and then in the payment screen there will be a payment option (At Woolies usually the last payment option) with multiple payment types (Card, Voucher, Giftcard etc)

Tap that and it will let you enter an amount (use $0.01) and payment type (select Card) and then Apple pay tap. Rinse and repeat.

    My $50 credit arrived.

    • Confirmed, same here, thank you for the heads up. Transaction description:
VISA AWARD APPLE PAY $50 BONUS

  • Received the $50 yesterday, last purchase was December 16th.

  • Also received but only did the 5 transactions a week ago! :)

  • So just to confirm:

-There is no 'minimum spend amount' for each qualifying purchase via Apple Pay?.
-Is there a minimum time the Suncorp account has to remain open for after the cashback payment has been made?.

Also curious to know if anyone has been paid their $50 cashback yet?. Any Android users on here borrowed an I-Phone for this?.

    • There is no 'minimum spend amount' for each qualifying purchase via Apple Pay?.

According to the terms and conditions of the offer no minimums. A one cent transaction at the self checkout is sufficient.

Is there a minimum time the Suncorp account has to remain open for after the cashback payment has been made?.

      No

Also curious to know if anyone has been paid their $50 cashback yet?

Yes there is a bunch of posts just above yours. Saying people are receiving it now.

      Read here for more

      • Thanks…

  • Received $50 yesterday.

  • Can confirm, received $50 2 days ago.

  • Opened account middle of last month, applied for debit card same day, still hasn't arrived..

    • Have gou checked your ID was verified 100 points etc? I had to go to a branch to get ID’d.

      • I don't recall verifying my ID. However I gave them a call two weeks ago and they said the card was on its way.

  • Just got my $50 the other day. Most of my purchases are under $1. That was quick!

  • Got $50 bonus other day as well. Did the transactions on first week of Jan

  • Still haven't got mine :(

  • $50 bonus received on 25/1 - last transaction was on 19/12, so just over 5 weeks

  • The T&C say that it works with Apple Pay in Safari - any suggestions for websites that support Apple Pay with low minimum spends?

    • +1

Here's an earlier reply of mine…

      • Perfect, appreciate it

        • As I mentioned in that link we are planning on having apps and websites return to our Apple Pay support spreadsheet in the future which can always be found here

  • Received my $50 yesterday. Thanks OP and suncorp. I’ll be keeping this account, as it has no fees and I like the suncorp rewards!

  • i am going to do my 5 transactions today
i opened the account in december
    will i get my $50?

    • +3

      What do you think?

Use Apple pay on 5 separate transactions by 31st March 2019 with the linked Visa debit card, to get a $50 cashback.

  • Anyone know how long it takes to get the $50 cashback? I made my 5th purchase on the 30th JAN but have yet to get mine.

    • Here's an earlier reply of mine…

    • Made my last purchase on 30 Jan. Got it on 1 Feb.

  • Applied this card in first week of Dec, and have been following up with suncorp every 2 weeks and still not got my card.
Response was "your card was scheduled to be printed", "you card is due for delivery"
called up again today and escalated to a higher level in suncorp then i was advised they havent got enough ID checks on my accounts and my account got closed by their system automatically after 2 months.
now that we are in Feb there's no point to open this account again.

Also no point to ever bank with suncorp again.
