  • I paid 360 around a month back. That’s dirt chep 😞

    • Me too but oh well we get to use it for month before others. Damn good quality product tho.

  • Great deal. Best screen on any smart display currently available.

  • Can you install apps from android store in this?

    • No, it's not running Android, but rather a custom display with Google Assistant in-built.

I really worry about the support on these from Google, like 3rd party Chromecast what happens with software update support? Source: I have a Sony soundbar with Chromecast support that is buggy and no hope of updates…

    • I was tempted to buy the 10" Lenovo for US$149, but I decided against it, for similar reasons.
But given the price I could get it for, I wonder if it is fair that Sony's bugs, and lack of updates, should scare me away from Lenovo ?!?
      I am conflicted…

I think it's up to the manufacturer to provide the support, not Google.

My hope is that since the units software is essentially just the Google software be with nothing particulary unique or different, it should be relatively simple for Lenovo to package updates for it… But I'm certainly not counting on it.

I have one of the Sony smart speakers too, last updated 2017. I will never put faith in any other company to maintain updates again.

Never again Lenovo. They abandon their premium devices months after release and don't contribute back to the community as well.

    • What makes a device 'premium'?

      • +1

        The price :)

Why not just use a tablet which is half of the price.

    • +1

      That’s what I wonder to.

Have you ever try to configure tablet accept voice command at sleep mode?
I tried it on androd and ios both failed.
Yes it is overpriced but it do best what it design to do without any changes.

Same question you would ask from the person who buying a ebook? why not a tablet?

They're quite different, as a smart display:

      • Doesn't require a dock/stand
      • Is constantly running
      • Has an always-on display
      • Has Google Assistant in-built
      • Cannot install applications
  • I just bought the 10 inch version from Harvey Norman and got the bonus mini.

Very easy to use for me but my dad has an accent. All he wants is to listen to a radio station but google doesn't understand him and I cannot alter the interface on the Lenovo so that he can just press play on the Tune In app.

Good for the elderly unless they have a strong accent.

    • Switch the language to his native tongue

      • I don't think Cantonese is supported yet and I have yet to work out how to switch languages.

The bigger problem is that the radio station's name is in English so he still would need to improve his English pronunciation…….which is a good thing.

    • Wallace, You could set up a routine they also have bilingual support too

      • The problem is that the radio station he listens to is called "2CR" and he has to say this in English even if the command is in his native language.

But it's worth a try to see if it'll better understand his accent
