Good Post. Good for anyone living in Adelaide. At least the game will have a result.

        Time to switch.

Please do. Only comment in chess deals from now on?

    • Wonder how much the beer is at the oval..

      • about $10

  • 4/104 chasing 323

This is a nerd website. Is that a bad score?

They have to score 200 runs with 8 batsmen to go?

    • +3

i also know nothing about cricket but i believe the best batsmen went first, so currently batsmen 5 and 6 are probably average, and the shit ones are after that. still seen bowlers do hundreds of runs though

      • +5

Nobody can forget Dizzy Gillespie's double century as nightwatchman ;) Admittedly against Bangladesh

        • +1

Of course nobody can forget as Flem and Dizzy are in commentary bringing it up every day

Travis Head (who's currently in on 11) made 76 in the first innings. In cricket you don't necessarily put your best batsmen in order, but you put the ones who can best face fresh, fast bowlers in first. Usually ones who can score at a higher rate as well. Often number 3 and/or 4 are the best batsmen (both Kohli and Smith, two best batsmen in the world, bat there), 5 and 6 are often the ones who can best hold their nerve further down the order. AB De Villiers and Steve Waugh used to bat at number 5, not because they were worse, but because you don't want to tire out your captain unnecessarily and because they could help stop the loss of wickets if things went to shit.

However you do put batsmen before everyone else, so after the top 6 Australia has the wicket keeper then bowlers. While traditionally Australia has exceptional batsmen with their keeper/bowlers (Lyon hit two fours and a six in the first innings) I can't see them making 200 runs between them.

If Head and Marsh put on a partnership of 150 though, it's on for young and old. 90 overs to make 220 runs is easily doable but India is bowling exceptionally well.

        • This man knows his cricket…..!

          Well done

        • Noiiice Gary!!

6 wickets in hand, would be the highest total chased down in the last innings down in a Test at Adelaide Oval if succesful.

      • They will be playing for a draw, I don't see this line up chasing down this total.

Australia test team has bottomed out - I lived in the era where I saw Hayden, Ponting, Waugh, McGrath, Warne, Lee played and those were the glory days where you expect Australia to win all the time.

        • +2

We'll lose. We can't survive a long day without losing 6 wickets. No rain forecast either…

        • It's not possible to play for a draw unless weather comes into play. If they bat 90 overs tomorrow and don't lose six wickets they'll win.

          • -2

@[Deactivated]: What are you about mate? If they don't lose 6 wickets and ALSO don't score 323 runs by the end of days play, it's a draw. This isn't basketball, draw happens in cricket

            • @Homr: I'm saying it's nigh impossible to stay at the crease all day, not get bowled out and NOT score those runs. It would be an extremely low run-rate to be a draw from here.

        • 200 runs in a day is very doable

          • @Nads2407: On day 4 or 5 of test cricket, pitch slows down, there can be unpredictable bounce and swing. In such conditions, any score above 300 in forth innings is considered hard to chase.

Therefore, 200 runs with red ball on day 5 with 6 wickets will need some good partnerships.

      • There is actually 98 overs, because they are starting 1/2 hour early to make up for the lost time due to rain on Saturday.

If the Aussies last the day (highly unlikely) they will make the runs required.

Yes there have been plenty of draws in the history of test cricket but this one won't be a draw.

6 wickets to go. Not 8

Another words, they have to "get out" 6 more times.

    • +16

Awesome, thanks for that insight into your life. I’ll keep my cash to pay someone else then!

      • you're welcome

    • +5

      Good on you.
Now time to go comment on things that people can pay you to do.

    • +8

Is it the balls that make you uneasy?

      • +6

The rubbing of the ball near the balls

    • +1

      It's a match, not a game.

  • +4

How do so many people have gold bars lying around…

  • That's one way to bring in a crowd. Has been average for an Adelaide test…

    • +1

The last few years have been D/N tests in Adelaide and this one isn't so I suspect that's the reason the crowds haven't been as good.

      • Bloody India controlling world cricket.

        • Not sure how though… to be honest, if talking only abt the D/N game, I dont see a reason why Ind needs to either support or oppose D/N cricket.. Not sure why they said no, I would have loved a D/N test but after watching the one in Brisbane, I really felt it doesn't matter if a "test" is a D/N or a day test because as a spectator, I felt both were of almost similar experience.

    • couple of reasons: really hot day for the first two days then on the weekend, train service is down for upgrades.

    They won't make it.

    • +1

      Captain obvious over here.

  • +3

Australia will bundle out tomorrow before lunch. That's what pressure does to the team

  • +2

I reckon this is a great promo. For the price of a Macca's deal you'll have people watching (almost) world-class cricket!

  • +4

I'll go in for a look. With $1 entry, and the way the boys are batting it should work out at 10c an over.

    • This guy definitely maths.

  • Gold coin donation to watch Australia lose in half a days play

  • All Day 5 entries for test matches this summer are gold coin. https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/amp.news.com.au/sport/cricke…

    Just do it people.
$1 to watch cricket, then when the game is over, head out to the city for an early lunch.

  • This is a good deal. Betting markets give Australia about a 11% chance of winning, so the game is still very much alive.

  • Does anyone know where to make the donation? At the entrance I suppose?

    • The game is over. You can donate the gold coin to my PayPal account if you want.

Well, everyone who went (10,000) got good value for their dollar.
