Am I allowed to express my buyers remorse on jumping on the EB games deal earlier for $250 without a game?

    • You can cancel/return EB Games item within 7 days if not yet opened

    • yes, its the OzB way.

Just watched a video on all the emulation this thing can do. Mighty tempting

    • Would you be able to link the video? Id love to see it..

Fingers crossed they won't sell out until I've nabbed one: have to wait until Friday (payday) 😎

Shame EB Games is out of stock as I get an extra 10% discount through work 😢

    P.S. Thanks BA!

  • Good deal ;)

  • -3

Not for people with non HDR 4K TVs. This player can’t even convert and output HDR to SDR.

  • any cheaper one without the controller now (want to use the xbox one)?

    • +2

You can get it for 207 without the controller and without a game at amazon AU.

I would recommend this one from Techmall ebay though, as it comes with the controller and a game for an extra 40 dollars.

      • +4

Better to wait till it's $159 again. These deals pop up really often lately. Especially if you have XB1 controller or just don't want Odyssey.

        • I didn't even know you could use an Xbox One controller - thanks for mentioning that :)

Obviously you wouldn't be able to use the voice control thing, as XB1 controllers don't have a mike (I just maybe can do it with headset, but…)

        • +1

Yeah I got it for $168 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/417483 from Kogan + stacked it with Amex deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/412678 to make it $148 but still waiting for delivery — it's been nearly a month o_O

          • @fault: Brother, you might want to chase that up. I ordered one from the same deal with Kogan, though didn't use Amex, and got mine in a week.
You don't want to find they've sent out all units for Christmas and have missed your order.

            • @Magpye: All good — it eventually came after Xmas + Kogan sent me a $20 voucher as well to apologise for the delay. Nice gesture.

Same place for $183. Use the search in the original eBay discount link, which BA included.

  • is there any benefit of getting this for watching Plex and Netflix if i already have it on my Smart TV?

    • If all you are using is Plex and Netflix and that's already natively available on your TV then I personally wouldn't bother, it's not going to offer anything extra, be less convenient and use more power.

If you don't have an Android powered TV then this might give you more flexibility for other apps like Kodi which generally aren't natively available.

      • I've thoroughly used two TV's with android/smart function, and they're both steaming turds of impatience & utter frustration. ~$60 mibox made everything better.

I'm a 35 year veteran of pc games. But this still doesn't seem what I really need. I left controllers back with PS2, never to return.

        • heh i was the opposite - dedicated HTPC veteran for years, switched to mibox that was then just supeceded by convenience of a good Smart TV that runs 4k netflix and Plex without a hitch

    • Can direct play 4k HDR remux with pgs subtitles. None of the tv clients can

    • The benefit is negligible as a Plex client. However, if you do not have a strong Plex server, this will fill that gap, and is cheaper than a NAS or HTPC

  • +1

This is rather expensive unless you want AC Odyssey and the controller right? It's been as low as $159 with just the remote.

    • That was Nvidia discounting for black Friday

I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume there'll be more deals as Christmas and New Year approaches.

  • Does anyone know if this thing will stream Kayo Sports?

I read that Kayo only works with Chromecast Ultra. So does the Kayo app recognise this thing as a Chromecast Ultra or a regular Chromecast?

I guess it is moot once Kayo's Android TV app comes out.

    • Kayo works with a normal chromecast, works with mine atleast

    • Yeah you can cast Kayo to the Shield.

  • Can anyone recommend a good alternative for a remote, please? I currently use a Rii mini i28c which works pretty well with our current Android media box device.

    • From nVidia Web site:

Shield TV Pro, Shield TV Pro (2015), and Shield TV (2015) have an IR receiver.
Shield TV (2017) does not have an IR reciever, however you can connect a USB IR Reciever to use your IR-based universal remote.
The IR-based Logitech Harmony series of remotes are compatible with Shield TV Pro and Shield TV (2015) .

      This is the 2017 version.

Not a bad price if you're looking to get ACO. I bought this with the pervious deal ( without the game) and I highly suggest this Android box. Hands down the best one I've ever used.

  • Was thinking about it but then realised you can get an xbox one for cheaper.. Ie. $199 one s minecraft bundle.

When you think of it that way it seems pricey??

    • Depends what you want to use it for. This is the best all-in-one home theatre media player. Outputs 4k, HDR, most (if not all) sound formats. Only doesn't have Dolby Vision and ATMOS from the Netflix app.

Plus If your PC is up to scratch you can probably play the PC version of most Xbox games via gamestream.

  • +1

    "Free"

Probably makes up at least $20 of the price compared to recent deals.

  • Good deal! Got one of the previous deals without a controller. After playing with it for a few weeks, I NEED THE CONTROLLER!
Any ideas of a cool deal for the original Nvidia game controller? Much appreciate any help.

    • +1

The 2017 version - generally you won't get a good deal for it. The 2015 version - hard to find one and it's not as good. You might be better off getting an XB1 or PS4 controller when either is on special (or if you have a preference of one over the other - get the one you like).

Sold my spare brand new nVidia Sheild controller (2015) on feeBay for $35 (inc. postage). Postage costed me $10. That's what I thought the 2015 version (brand new) was worth. Just an FYI so don't overspend on nVidia Sheild controller. Unfortunately, these with controller included packages make more sense if you want the controller.

      • Thanks @netsurfer

Hello friends, centrecom has this for $245 with controller and $180 with out it. But no game.

  • I can't really recommend tech mall. I recently received a Dead on arrival NAS from them

Lucky I got ebay plus else I would have to pay return postage

Their packaging is shocking. It might have been damaged during transit

  • With all these shield deals, is there going to be a new one with a better GPU released soon? 2018 hasn't had a refresh so perhaps 2019?

    • Unlikely, the market for Android TV devices is too small. Also, Shield TV 2017, the actual device itself is a cost cutting version of the 2015 model. nVidia did release an improved controller.

    • And dolby vision?

  • We need a deal on xbox one (BT) controllers now! :D

    • Don't like the shield controller?

  • Anyone able to share which iview and sbs on demand apk work when side loaded? My experience is the most recent versions install but won't load up.

Also: can side loaded apps have their shortcut on the main screen? At present, I need to browse apps via system menu to open side loaded versions…

    • Would love to know this also!

      • I can check and answer this within the next 24 hours. I can definitely say this, things have changed in the last month or so regarding sideloaded apps - for the better!. I got my shield about 3 weeks ago (Kogan deal, $228 incl controller if anyone's interested), watched every YouTube vid and instructional about getting chrome installed and accessing it (and other sideloaded apps) through another app (or alternatively using an app which builds the banner icon for it and puts it on the main screen), only to find that when I installed chrome, it put a banner shortcut on the main screen automatically! Since then I've installed/sideloaded 3 more apps, all of which had shortcuts made and able to be put on main screen! Strangely though haven't seen any videos or chat about this being a feature now?

  • Does this box do Foxtel Go?

    • +1

Not sure. You can sideload the Foxtel Now apk though. Note that it will only work with a Now account and not a normal foxtel account.

  • For those who have purchased this, how soon do you need to claim the free game? The ebay listing says "Time: 10th Dec - 16th Dec" - does it mean you need to claim the game key before 16th Dec, or that you just need to purchase the bundle before 16th Dec? In either case, given that it is now 13th Dec, one might run into trouble with the claim?

  • Can someone tell me how this game is 'included'? I gather it's a download, but I can't find any info, from nvidia or game developer, saying how this is an android app or the like. It doesnt appear on the play store. I could only think it may be made available through Nvidia GeForce NOW, where you stream the whole game from Nvidia servers. But this isn't specified either.

    • I got my code and I've tried it on Steam, Uplay, and Nvidia… all say invalid. I'm just waiting to hear back from them about it.

      • Same issue.

        • I got a message back and redeemed my code… you need to go to https://redeem.ubisoft.com/assassins-creed-odyssey-pc-specia…

          • @markjg: so you get it as a separate download (i.e. app) then? how big is it? big dent in your (less than after OS) 16gb space on the shield? (non-pro version).

Separate question also - has anyone with a decent internet speed (i'm only on 25mb/s) got GeForce NOW working well? I've read so many good things about it, and i got it working for several games (heaps are free at the moment, must be a trial phase) but it's jittery as all heck. It gave me a warning my ping was inadequate, is this totally attributable to my crappy internet speed or because the servers are all US based? (Or more than likely, because of both)

            Thanks

  • I haven't got my code from them, after first sending them a photo of the serial on the box, as the device doesn't have a serial, and then sending them photos of the actual device… no word since.

    Anyone else having any luck?

    • All good, finally got it and redeemed on Uplay.
