that's so cheap wtf. if I didn't just build my new PC i'd jump on this.

  • +3

    Regreting time for me

  • +9

    Holy Mother of God

GTX1080 MaxQ for sub $2K… there must be something else wrong with it…

    • I7-7700HQ
    • 32gb RAM
    • 512GB NVMe

    Maybe the screen is lacking

    • 15.4" FHD (1080x1920) IPS technology
    • NVIDIA G-SYNC
    • 120Hz standard refresh rate

Damn it's perfect in every way

Edit: the 512GB looks to be 2x256GB RAID 0 SSD

    • Needs to be 6 Core + :P Are they clearing stock?

  • Holy… What a great deal!

  • Just after I bought a new lappy too GADDAM. Absolute bargain.

  • Cheap, though an 8th gen hexa-core processor would be even sweeter! But can't have everything!!

  • +4

i wish it is 17 Inch display, 15 is a bit small for a gaming laptop

    • I would consider moving down for that upgrade but I don’t know if I can handle it.

  • How much should this normally be?

    • +1

      was 2799 yesterday

    • +1

      At least 1k more.

    • +21

      Usually ~$2500+.

But you can get it at EB Games for $4099

      • Wowee. Have an upvote OP.

  • If it had a mechanical keyboard, it would have been perfect!

  • +1

    I've asked the wife…let's see.

    • +8

let's see if you need to change a wife? :)

    • +58

      You may buy it.

      • +2

        Omg. Beetlejuicing on OzB!!!

        • +4

lol.. did you manage to buy one? its OOS now
better get Pre- approvals next time :D

          • @Being Askhole: Missed it, mate. Oh well!

I think a gaming laptop is what I want.

Value the compact size over a big PC. Current i5 2500k and GTX 580 is using a lot of power for web browsing and no gaming.

      • The 😜 means yes in my book

  • $20 handling fee?

  • -3
    • That has a GTX1060, different league of gpu

    • No that one has a 1060 and maybe some other differences.

    • NO

  • Oh well. Gone

  • +2

LOL, she was about to say yes. Oh well. To be honest, as amazing as this is, I want 8th Gen CPU… Congrats to those who got it.

    • buy 1st ask later

      • +4

Oh well, at least now I know I can get something :)

        • Why do you need your wife’s permission if you work for the money?

          • +8

@Griffindinho: Because I respect her. Joint account and all. What's hers is mine and mine hers.

            • @giventofly: does she ask you before spending > $2000 ?

              • +6

@payton: She doesn't spend that much, ever. But she definitely would. She's quite frugal.

            • +1

@giventofly: good on you. so many nowadays - whatever hers is hers, and mine is hers too.

  • +1

So glad it sold out because I was having a real hard time not purchasing. Although i literally just bought an hp omen 15 yesterday.

  • Darn, was about to order and now out of stock :(

  • I am glad it sold out i am still using my 4 years old Alienware 17 and still perform everything well, and i used to 17 inch display and cannot go back to 15

  • This was at least the 2nd time this laptop was available at this price. I would recommend keeping an eye out on this one

  • +1

don't be sad if you miss out this deal, a lot of reviews state that this machine has a terrible touchpad.

    • +7

Don't think a lot of people are gaming with a touchpad…

      • +2

it's still a laptop though. take it somewhere for productivity work and forget the mouse and it becomes a $2k brick. I personally would prefer it have one but thats just my opinion.

    • it doesn't appear to have a touchpad at all.

      • it does have a touchpad, above the keyboard…

        • +6

may as well not have one then…because its entirely useless up there.

  • 1080maxq is a beast of a gpu according to benchmarks on youtube.

    • Which desktop equivalent is it closest to? A 1070ti or 1070.

      • vega 56

  • DEAL still on (in-store according to website).

  • If this had more than a 1 year warranty, i would be all over it

    • +2

Consumer Law guarantees that it will. You'd expect a $2k laptop to last more than 12 months

  • buy it with a Platinum Credit Card, you automatically have any manufactures Warranty doubled :P

    • Could you please specify how this works? Thanks ahead.

  • fffff… Hawthorn shop is 10 minutes walk away!

    • +1

Get one, then sell it for $2099.
      100 dollar profit.

      • Was going to pop by on my way home after work but..

        Hawthorn Sold Out

  • +2

Still says in stock for online.

    • Yup it's back

      • Out of stock

  • Yup, dont need a laptop whatsoever but hovering over the add to cart button……

  • Amazing price for the impressive specs. If I wasn't in the market for a GTX 1050/ti I would have bought this.

  • Error 404 - Page Not Found
    What?

    • +1

gone the way of the dinosaur mate,
common practice when its definitely out of stock, don't even bother calling us
JB does it all the time

      • What should they do?

        • put a little violin on the page?
          /jk

  • how could such a laptop exist

  • damn missed

  • Fark.. that was a good price.

    Shame out of my budget.

Last time i saw this on sale was 2.4k

    This is $400 cheaper

  • Amazing price for the specs…

  • Great price but with that gpu I would want 1440p minimum but yeah great specs and great price.

    • can always plug an external 1440p monitor

      • Adds extra cost breaks the deal a bit imho but yeah that is a possibility.

    • even 1440p 1080 is meh 1080ti to utilise 1440p

  • Something no one's mentioning is, how long can you expect the battery to last while gaming?

    • hah hah hah

this is more of a portable desktop

    • Dave 2 D says two hour on battery.. I'm sure thats just using it casually and non gaming.

      • Eeew.

      • my friend has this laptop. It's 1.5 hrs surfing the net on chrome…..

    • +1

      This has a 1060 in it not a 1080.
It also has half the amount of RAM.
In my opinion this isn't a good deal just looks to be RRP

      • Oh yeah wasnt paying attention thought ot was same gpu lol

    • Shows how good this deal is, same price, but that triton will blow this Helios into oblivion

      • Which has better cooling?

  • wow surprised this is so popular, seems kind of overpriced to me. in my experience gaming on a laptop is pretty ass, the screen is too small, the keyboard overheats, and it's bad for your posture. the best way is to use external mouse/keyboard/monitor, and at that point you might as well as get a desktop. when i upgraded from a 15" laptop to a 24" monitor the difference was night and day. the only time i would recommend this is if you NEED the mobility and using it mainly for work. some other points:

-we've been on 4 core/8 thread CPUs for a decade now, and it is likely to get outdated after a few years, we're about to get a lot more cores from AMD.
-RAM prices are coming down, and 32GB is just a waste for gaming
-Price of high refresh monitors is coming down. 120hz is kind of wasted on a 15" screen since it is so small, you will play a lot better on a bigger screen.

for $2000 you can build a much better rig if you do some research. and there are other laptop options, for example this deal had a better 6 core/ 8 thread CPU and i thought this was a much better deal:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/421806

    • You can't take your rig with you while on the road.
      1080 is awesome.

      • for sure, which is why i said "the only time i would recommend this is if you NEED the mobility and using it mainly for work"
the 1080 is also awesome, but it has a TDP of 150W

these are very nice specs for sure, but when the objective is to be mobile and powerful at the same time, they start to conflict each other

just be very clear what you need when buying a laptop, that's my recommendation.

      • to be fair, this "rig" has a 1.5hr battery life. It's not really mobile without it's powerbrick. I kinda agree with abctoz that you could build a better pc and put the remaining money into a better laptop.

        • The powerbrick is still portable.

          • @congo: But then you're chained to a wall. Most people I know use their laptops on the go and expect it to last 6hrs+. I guess this is good for those that can sit next to wall? shrugs

        • I can take this laptop and game anywhere there is a power socket, would be a bit funny if I take my PC-tower and 23" monitor instead while doing this :)

    • besides the spec, it has a mechanical keyboard, a thunderbolt, a full aluminium chassis, those are factors to consider outside the 'spec' part. every laptop has its problem, pick any one and post it here and i'm sure there won't be a shortage of comments like 'why it is not so awesome'.

      • +1

        i don't get those people
saving of $1000 and still unhappy

        • of course this is ozbargain

  • can anyone recommend minimum specs I need for a hybrid laptop? I'm after something 14/15" and light preferably and mostly will be used for photo editing, streaming, working etc. However, it also needs to be able to play games like minecraft occasionally when I let the kids on. It won't play on my current laptop so don't want to fall into that trap again. Can't workout what I need and gaming laptops seem like ferrari's compared to what I need. Thanks heaps

    • +1

      play games like minecraft

What laptop do you have that can't handle minecraft? It's not really an intensive game at all. Pretty sure you don't need a gaming laptop tbh
