With these specs you're looking at the upper end of midrange devices, or entry-level when it comes to gaming laptops. In terms of price, it could be anywhere between $800-1300. It all depends on what areas you're willing to compromise on, like build quality, slimness and weight, speakers, keyboard, etc.
Since you mentioned photo editing, a good screen is important. Look for good colour space overage and colour space accuracy. And if you're taking the laptop outside to work, don't settle for anything less than 300 nits.

@Jenova: Hm, looks like a good deal. However, I need more than 8gb of RAM once I hook the lappy to a monitor and start having 10+ spreadsheets open. Also, sometimes I can't avoid using volatile formulas which makes lag a bitch.
I'd stay away from Dell. Their loud fans are just so frustrating.

i have an hp elitebook, sorry don't have the specs on hand - the game constantly crashes. My other laptop is a 10yr old toshiba from the uk and it wont even start on that one.
