Hey All!

Long time lurker, first time poster, thrilled to be able to contribute to this wonderful site

Lenovo ThinkPad 13 Yoga G3 Model 21B6S04500

Pretty good deal for a Yoga ThinkPad in the highly sought-after 13.3" Form Factor (usually a very pricey category), with a very well performing 6 Core, 8 Thread i3 CPU, however RAM is soldered unfortunately so non-upgradeable from 8GB

https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?id=4754&cpu=Intel+Core+…

EDIT: A commenter has pointed out that there is a discrepancy between the CPU model listed in the description (i3-1215U) and the specs (i3-10110U). From some quick research it seems the former is correct however there isn't a heap of information available on this model, hence i'd recommend reaching out to JB HiFi to confirm this before purchasing.

JB also have the following on clearance which I think represent better value and was going to post separately however did not forsee the time delay.

JB HiFi (Online Only): $599 HP ProBook 435 G10 86P73PA 13.3"/Ryzen 5 7530U/Touch/8GB/256GB SSD/W11P, whole bottom cover easiy removable so upgrading RAM to 16GB/32GB is a 2 minute job (takes DDR4 SODIMM)

Congrats on the first post btw!

Thanks! Hopefully it's a good one. Got two more on the way

    Processor Type: Intel Core i3-10110U

Very archaic. Would rather just save my $600 and add like $400 for an 155h deal.

    • +2

Hmm in the description it has it equipped with the i3-1215U, big difference between the two. From some quick research it seems that the i3-1215U is correct.

      • +1

        Ok that makes more sense.

    • +6

Intel i3-1215U actually. But 8gb soldered ram so still not good.

      • Ok that makes more sense.

  • +7

Ram is soldered by the way, so you are forever stuck with 8GB RAM.

    • +2

Ok that is definitely a put off.

Thanks, have added this in the title for clarity

I can't make the other two posts I was planning to right now as my account is still new, so i'll post here instead. These are probably better deals to be honest.

Aside from not having the ThinkPad branding, these options are decent enough.

    • +2

You can put these laptops in the same deal post, you might not be able to fit all of them in the title though.

    • The 2nd link is giving a 404 - Not found
"Oops! We can't find the page you're looking for."

Anyone else facing the same issue?

    • Both of the probooks are gone now sadly!

  • +3

    Hmm..
Yes it's on sale, but specs are pretty terrible. You get a bare bones machine that would barely run Windows 10 or 11 with anything more than Office, due to the 8gb ram. And in that case, you might as well just buy an older refurb for $150 off ebay.

  • +12

8gb soldered ram with that processor, in 2025 for $600 is a terrible deal.

    • +6

Concur. 8gb doesn't cut it at all, even at a budget. That CPU is bottom of the barrel as well.

Luckily you don't need to spend more to get 16gb, there's plenty of them around for a similar price.

    • +1

ThinkPads are top tier when it comes to build quality, and that comes at a price. The non-upgradeable RAM is a huge bummer but 8GB is still very workable for light tasks using Windows 11 in 2025, you just need to optimise your OS better/disable unnecessary startup + background apps and processes. Totally disagree that the CPU is bottom of the barrel though, check out some benchmark results. These aren't the old Dual Core i3 CPUs that were commonplace a few years ago.

      • +2

For $600 you shouldn’t have to try the manage a min memory by jumping through hoops.

I did not call it bottom of the barrel. Though it’s still many generations behind and again doesn’t command this price.

I bought a lenovo yoga slim 7i for the same price with i5 11th gen 8gb 256gb for the same price 4 years ago. everyday i regret having 8gb of ram with a fresh boot into windows 11 using 70-80% of available ram

      • ThinkPads are top tier when it comes to build quality, and that comes at a price

Not the L series. Hell, maybe even not the T series since the T-480

      • +1

Yes, the one thing it has going for it is that it's a Thinkpad and not the regular consumer stuff. Still, an L series isn't exactly great.

But, I still have to argue against this. The Lenovo Outlet right now has a 5500U powered laptop with 16gb of RAM for $150 less. I mean sure it's refurb and not a thinkpad, but it's also a lot cheaper and that jump from 8gb to 16gb of RAM is huge.

      • This is a Thinkpad "Yoga" there's been some woefully poorly built units in the range over the last 8 yrs! and some yogas that have this deal where the screen breaks time after time no matter how carful you are.

    • +4

I agree, 8gb is ewaste with this stuff…

I'm never buying a Windows laptop that comes with 8 gb soldered ever again unless it's like less than $100 or something stupid.

If it was upgradeable then different story. but yeah.

      • +1

Made the mistake of speccing a ThinkPad X13 with 8GB soldered in 2020. Never again lol, thankfully still usable for basic tasks.

  • got the gen 2 mid tier spec, quite good however the battery life is ehh

  • +4

Any laptop with soldered ram and no free slot should be illegal these days. Considering how the standard windows bloatware and how bad chrome is these days. Such great E waste
