    Where in Bali is that?

    • Think of it as big Bali but with less tourists, less beaches but more shopping malls :)

      and terrible traffic

  • Would anyone here actually recommend Jakarta as a tourist destination? I have never heard anyone speak kindly of the city (a bit like Manila).

I lived there for two years. Unless you know people that live there, there isn't that much to do. The nightlife is not bad, however there is no decent beach or many outdoor things to do.

There are tons of shopping malls but to be honest, most things are cheaper on ozbargain.

Cigarettes are like $2 a pack though.

      • Sounds like most Australian cities then. Part of me wouldn't mind going to see just how much of a clusterf**k the place is (replete with sinking foundations…)

    • yeah its pretty much like manila. just not as tourist friendly.

      • best thing with Jakarta is the food. hundreds of them! then the night club and massages :)

        • You kind of get that anywhere in South East Asia though.

  • Best Time to Go To Jakarta

Best time to visit Jakarta is during the dry season, approximately between June and September, with temperatures ranging 24-32 degrees Celcius; over 11 to 12 hours of sunlight and clearer days for sightseeing and easier travel to the city's major landmarks.

  • Jakarta isn’t a tourist destination at all. But plenty of places in Java are. Hop on a bus straight from the airport to somewhere decent and you’ll be right.

    • Goodness me, please do not do this unless you really know what you're doing. You are correct, Java is fantastic but you are much better off taking a train or even another flight - either are very cheap. Don't travel over land on bus - maybe to Bandung is ok but not any further. Certainly not to Jogja or beyond. Traffic is awful and some roads are worse. It's just unsafe.

      • Whaaaat? The buses throughout Java go everywhere, often and cheaply. Definitely worth doing. About safety, it's not too bad. I've yet to have a crash while on a bus. Only small bingles on motorbikes and in cars.

  • Not a very functioning website. Try to search for a multi trips and it just keeps processing. 😭

    • Should work? Would you mind letting us know what browser you're in, and what airports you were searching?
