  • Giveaway based entirely around turning up first
    'No camping'

    Yeah ok then.

    • yeah, i thought it was a rather interesting clause…

    • I thought the same. 200 people show up exactly 8am on the dot to get into a 100 person line. How would they choose who to fairly turn down without making a case for discrimination?

That said, people are just going to off-sight camp down the street anyway.

What if the security is acting in a (most likely)threatening, abusive or violent manner and you are calmly playing a deadweight?!

  • Say I follow the rules and start lining up at 8am
    The store opens at 9:30, so I get $50 for 90mins, that's $33.33/h
Compare to average Coles Cashier hourly pay is $23 (just googled)
Oh! extra fuel cost due to stuck in morning traffic as well
Also the risk of getting out of bed early at 7am but finds that there are already 100s of ozbargainers when I reach there
I will just stay in my comfortable bed until noon :D

    • The ikea value is tax-free, the Coles pay is pre-tax.
And the fuel would be incurred in both instances if using Coles pay to buy Ikea products.

They should make the deal for the first 100 customers and minimise some of the chaos. First 100 people who can race round the shop and pick up a $2 knick knack to buy wins.

  • If I arrive by 8am do you think 100 people would already be at the line?

Be interested to know what happened on Friday 7th dec.
was it orderly or a massive panic?

    • i too would like to know this

    • Not sure. I just found out about this today too. Hopefully someone from the ozbargain community can shed some light on this…

    • I work at one of the stores. It was fine at our store, everyone was standing in a line and being polite :)

  • +1

but The Entrance is in NSW

    • Haha. yes, but you'd be the first and last person in the queue then.

  • Deal breaker is the photos and publicity.
I can imagine it now "local cheapskate waits hours in a queue for a free voucher".

    • I've done that… said I going out for a donut next block over. It was the opening of doughnut time. It took an hour…
