20% off All Single Malt Whisky @ First Choice

980

The 20% off Whisky deal at First Choice is back - this time across all single malts.

Best drams for their price range:
Glenmorangie 10 - $63
Glenmorangie Lasanta or Quinta Ruban - $76
Glenfiddich 14 Rich Oak (if you can find it) - $89. In my opinion you won't find a better drop under $100

  • Isn’t glenlivit 12 cheaper at Dan murphys everyday? $64.90
    https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_93651/the-glenlivet…

The 15, 18 and 21 Glenlivits are definitely cheaper than dan with this deal

Spot on! Will edit the post

    Laphroaig 10 Year - $88

    Mighty tempting…

  • +2

Aberlour 12 for $74 is good

    • Agreed! A great Whisky that you used to be able to get for ~$65 on special

      • +6

Or 16 months ago when it was $55ea

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/325483

        I bought 6 then…. wish I'd bought more now.

        • For the quality of the whiskey, imo it was too low priced at Dan's and FC for a long time. Seems they caught onto that eventually

        • +1

I stocked up at $55 also. Was a steal.

I have graduated to the a'bunadh also…..it's a mighty drop. Not for guests lol.

          • @whorishmouth: which batch?

            • @thegazette: Currently got 2 bottles of 57 (from a store that didn't know they had them out the back). But I've had 59 to 60 (or 61? can't remember).

              • @whorishmouth: i'm still waiting to find more of the 56. highest strength release, at time of purchase anyway.

                • @thegazette: The review guys reckon the older stuff (like 50) tastes heaps better….we'll never know I guess.

        • +2

          I did warn you all.

          • @YOTR: You sure did mate, i wish i listened to your advice cause i only bought 2, finish one and drinking the other very sparingly.

      • For those who love the Aberlour 12 (like myself) and am wanting to try something else, what do you suggest? :)

        • +1

Strathisla and longmorn were my next steps after aberlour

        • +2

I have found Singleton SpeyCascade similar. You can usually find this on special for around $55.

        • +3

Once you try Aberlour A'bunadh, you will never go back to Aberlour 12. My problem was that I tried the A'bunadh first, I just find the 12 so bland. If you want slightly cheaper alternative, Glengoyne Cask Strength is so good as well. Note: Both are Cask Strength, you may find them a bit too strong but few drop of water will ease it down.

          • @od810: This guy knows….I concur. A'bunadh is the bomb. I stock up when on special…. $110.

        • +7

Balvenie Doublewood 12 for me! Or the Balvenie 14 Caribbean Cask

          • +1

@Blue whiskey: I'm with you on those two

        • +1

Glenfarclas 105 - https://www.nicks.com.au/glenfarclas-105-cask-strength-singl…, really good value; 1L and cask strength.

    • Agreed, it's my go to scotch.

      It's $74 at Dan Murphy's as well.

  • +2

Yamazaki Distillers Reserve Whisky $96 - a nice drop at a more reasonable price than their age specified single malt.
    Currently $120 @Dans.

  • Hey OP when does this 20% of sale end ?

  • +4

For anyone wanting to dip their toes into single malts, the Quinta ruban is a very nice place to start

    • +4

Absolutely agree! That entire range, including the Lasanta, Tain (can get at duty free) and Nectar D'Or are all fantastic and ridiculously easy to drink.

      • +2

Nectar is my go to - a fantastic drop. I bought a bottle of the Signet at duty free last month. If you get a chance pick one up

        • Love the Signet, have only had it then once!

          • @Blue whiskey: I brought the D'Or at the price its going I should of gotten two

            • @[Deactivated]: Nice one. A great price for that drop! Will be going to buy a few this week myself.

    • I do miss their original port barrel finish though. Was a better drop. Still nice though.

  • i find them all quiet boring to my taste, grab the Ardbeg Uigeadail to excite the senses….!

    • Very strong! Los of flavour though.

    • I've got a couple of Laphroaigs (qc, cairdeas) and an Ardbeg perpetuum at the moment but don't confuse in your face with complexity. Just cracked open a Springbank 10 and for an entry level lowlands its a ripper but it's definitely not in your face

      • +1

I object to Springbank being called 'Lowlands'.

    • Or anything Bruichladdich. Their non-peat whisky is also great. Still tempted on Octomore 7.03… might pull the trigger to reward myself.

      Whisky is an expensive habbit

      • 7.x range were a disappointment vs 6.x
you can skip and go straight to 8.x

      • Octomore is very strong for anyone that isnt sure about peated whisky, even for peated whisky and for those that like peated whisky it is strong!

    • Fair enough, I certainly enjoy the highlands and speyside whiskys more, for their subtle and sweet flavours. Each to their own

  • Has anyone tried this: https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies/glen-moray/glen-moray-…

Bought two bottles for two friends. I'm thinking of getting one for myself. Sounded like a good drop.

    Cheers

    • +2

      Glen moray is Average

      • +1

Average, yes, but it's actually a good gateway whisky to start exploring single malts. It's quite clean but not overly excitable on the senses*, and is a great starting point on the journey. The 12yo is definitely better than the Classic, which is normally only about $10 cheaper. YMMV.

*A Scottish friend of mine thought the best way to introduce a newbie to the beauty and mysteries of single malt was to hand me a dram of Caol Isla. It was like jumping into a swift flowing river to learn how to swim.

        • Ok cool, I'm most def a beginner so I may buy a bottle for myself too. I've got tons of Scottish heritage so it's about time I start learning the proper way to drink whisky. I've slowly started braving less and less 'cola or similar to just a splash now.

This sounds like it's easy on the burn. Cheers

        • the caol Ila distillers edition is on sale here, bought it before absolutely lovely drop.

    • You also will never find Glen Moray anywhere not Woolies.

    • +1

An okay drop, but you can get plenty better for its price

    • I own this in 15yo. It's not great. Minimal flavour profile and it waters away into nothing in your mouth very quickly.

For new drinkers, start with Glenfiddich 12 or Glenmorangie original. Singleton 12 is good too.

  • +2

Been meaning to try the Glen Grant 18yo. Now is the time. Thanks OP :)

  • +1
    • Just price matched at Uncle Dans.

The First Choice bottle is blurry but says it’s 2013.

I doubt it’s this one and more likely the 2017 which is what I got.

    • I was hoping storm was cheaper than Dan's

      Nope more exxy

  • All goneski

  • I've been meaning to try Talisker Storm as I'm quite partial to their Skye version. Dan's has it slightly cheaper, though.

A good stocking stuffer would be the Loch Lomond tasting pack.

    • Same, pity it's still cheaper at Dans…

  • Grabbed a bottle of Glen Scotia for $63 https://www.firstchoiceliquor.com.au/Spirits/glen-scotia-dou…

I usually take advantages of sales to try something new but for the price this was too hard to go past.

    https://www.firstchoiceliquor.com.au/Spirits/auchentoshan-12…

Is this any good for a gift for a beginner?
I read some not so good review about it, but some tell me it is pretty good for beginner. Price doesn't seem to bad, $75+ everywhere else at the moment.

  • +1

Most bottles I look at are cheaper at Dan's or Nicks. Both of which have ebay stores (5% off sitewide atm, can sometimes be 10-20%)
Just make sure you double check your bargain

  • error

  • +2

No one mention Glen Scotia 15 yo just for $84? It is $125 at Nicks and is one of the best Campbeltown whisky you can find in Aus.

  • Too bad there's no Japanese whisky.
Great prices, I wish I could get more than one bottle.

  • Is this just online, or in store too?

    • It's in store too for anyone wondering. Just checked when I grabbed my order.

  • Auchentoshan for $52 is a great deal!
    Also like me a Bruichladdich

  • Signing up for their newsletter should also give you a $10 voucher (It takes a day for the email to come)

Also some flybuy deals floating around, worth checking your offers (ie. 1000 points for $50+ spend)

  • Thoughts on lagavulin 12 yr for $95?

    • You must mean the 16? $95 for the 12 would be a steal. For the 16, unless you have a $10 voucher to add, probably cheaper from boozebud. Adding a $5 beer to order, and using advent18 code (also 7% CR there)

  • Fantastic prices. I am pretty damn sad I can't get any of these delivered to TAS but someone else mentioned the Dan Murphy's ebay store which is pretty similarly priced for a lot of these. May have to convince someone to get me an Ardbeg 10 for Chrissy…

  • +1

Was excited when I saw this on a billboard

Pity most of their prices are more than 20% higher than Dan's standard… Nothing I want to buy on "special" except maybe another Quinta ruban. Only a couple dollar discount though..

  • Just bought the Bladnoch 15. Enjoyed tasting its younger sibling in store. It is always good to ask for a tasting because sometimes the house taste of a brand is not what you want
BTW. Dan Murphy's will price match an advertised price.

  • +1

I got the nectar d'or for $72 delivered. When I signed up and left the order hanging I was sent a free $10 on first delivery coupon and delivery was free.

  • Additional 10% off sale prices for click & collect on their eBay store with this offer: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/425516. Good for those near a store.
The selection is limited, but still there is oban, glenmorangie, caol ila…
