Philips 349X7FJEW 34" UWQHD Curved UltraWide VA LCD Monitor $727 + Freight (Free Postage /w Club Catch) @ JW Computers via Catch

110

First time post, let me know if I missed anything.
Seems like a legit deal for a 34" UWQHD Monitor that has freesync and 100Hz. Has anyone tried this monitor?

  • It's definitely a lot better than Kogan's offering which is $599 + Freight.

Not sure how well it stacks against the ASUS XG35VQ, which goes for a pretty hefty $1k MSRP.

    • why is it better ? specs seem the same, just the branding ? (genuine question I'm not being sarcastic)

      • +1

Kogan's panels are usually of a lower grade / lower quality, in this case it's 7.8ms pixel response which has been overclocked (otherwise the normal rate is usually much worse).

LCD screens usually go through a binning process, there's stuff that makes the cut and passes quality threshold but there are also factory rejects which are considered usable but not up to standard. Cheaper no-brand LCD monitors (and TV's) typically use those.

        • It's still a VA panel, tho 1440p. How nice if it were IPS.

  • Is the resolution good enough for the size? I've read that 1440p is ideal for 27" and 4K for 32" but I'm not sure how the ultrawide throws that out

    • +1

I have tried 1080p and 1440p 34" monitors and 1440p definitely is a big difference. I guess a 1440p 34" wide monitor is throwing out something similar to 3k. Would be interesting to know if there would be much difference at 4k.

I use a 35" Ultrawide at 1440p and even at that resolution I still use 125% DPI scaling otherwise the window elements become too small and hard to click. You'd also have to sit uncomfortably close to the display.

The use case depends of course, video editors and content creators will want the maximum possible resolution to fit their workspace in… but there's actually no '4k ultrawide., the closest thing to it would be 5120 x 2160 (which what LG calls '5k 2k'.)

It is. What you're getting is a 27" 1440p with a bit extra on the sides, so if you like the pixel density on one of them, you'll like it on this too. In fact this is ever so slightly higher a pixel density, at about 109ppi vs 108ppi for the 27". Plenty sharp.

I've got this monitor just the previous model but all the specs are identical, 1440p is an absolute must however 4k for 32" is normally 16:9 so it's not really a fair comparison, it's a good monitor all in all and thats a great price

I don't approve of this antisemitic model number. Just saying.

    • Well spotted at this hour of the day.

  • its a 1440p ultrawide. for that price and also being 100hz. this thing is a screaming bargain
