Off topic, but oh my lol that profile pic is amazing; "Bean-Laden" :D

  • +1

Why this over oled? Great deal either way for 65inch.

    • -2

      No. Just no

    • I got one, QLED doesn't have burn led problems if you are a crazy gamer, also, QLED doesn't have problems if your room is too bright. It kills OLED easy. If you don't give a da*n, go for it.

    • +1

No worries of burn in and significantly brighter display for well-lit rooms. I think over 1000nits brighter?

      • Never heard of anyone bought OLED has burn in issue though.

  • +2

Be warned that Samsung TVs have a problem with resetting back to tv speakers randomly when connected via HDMI ARC. See here: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/TVs/ARC-Sound-settings-k…

Apparently there is no solution coming.

    • -5

Really?? A post created 2 years ago?? HAHAHAHAHHAHAH

      • +2

I'm not sure exactly what you're saying here, but it's been an issue since 2016 and the newest QLED TVs still have the problem. I have (and and going to return) a 55 Q8FN with this problem.

        • So, the solution in that thread does not actually work? As far I understand, for whatever reason they can't fix the issue, but if you switch on the ARC device first, there is no issue?

          • @boondocksaint: There doesn't seem to be an actual permanent solution. It's not just on startup that the problem can occur. Last night I had the output change back to TV on me just while netflix was paused.

Even if it was only on startup that's still not acceptable.

        • +1

Instead of using a post of 2 years old, you should check 2018 posts since these TVs are from this years. There are many solutions out there. The problems are from cable to wrong settings. Good luck

          • @ratoloko: That thread has posts from a couple weeks ago (it's been closed since). It's still a problem on the newest models. It seems just changing settings does not help.

            • @skrot: @skrot so I will have to buy one HDMI ARC audio system during the Boxing Day to figure out what is going on.

It seems like the same "problem" I have with my tablet connected to my TV. If you are watching something and turn off the TV, it plays the sound on its speaker which makes sense. To minimize the problem IF exist one, Samsung has a soundbar with a separated wireless subwoofer. Let's.

              • @ratoloko: I am using the Samsung HW-MS750, bought specifically for this TV.

                • @skrot: Too much for me hahaha I am dating the MS360 one https://www.jbhifi.com.au/samsung/samsung-hw-m360-xy-2-1ch-s… for half of the price.

                • @skrot: I have done some research and the main problem is the HDCP or High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection version which so far this TV has 2.0a and the new HDCP 2.2 one in all of the 4 HDMI

The second problem because the HDCP version is the way how the HDCP works or handshaking. If there are too many devices connected, it might cause connections issues. This is a know HDCP issues and as result, you might have no video or audio.
It is not a Samsung problem, but the technology itself and somehow the new QLEDs seem to be affected badly.

I have until boxing day to read everything about HDCP before to decide which audio system to buy and workarounds.

                  • @ratoloko: I do have all HDMI ports used, so perhaps that exacerbates things.

It seems to be the case that either the Samsung products specifically have a problem in this scenario, or that other brands have successfully worked around it. I suppose it doesn't matter to me which it is, as long as the effect is that the Samsung TVs have an issue for my use-case.

                  • @ratoloko:

this TV has 2.0a and the new HDCP 2.2

I looked for this too and I can't find

Can you send me a link that shows these specs?

                    I thought that 2018 model TV's will be HDMI2.0b

                    Cheers

    • +1

      i have last years model

not really a problem for me i always use optical / not a fan of ARC

great tv when viewed from pretty much direct in front just make sure there are no cheap seats in the house otherwise OLED all the way

also hangs sweet close to the wall with the special bracket

  • +4

    I have the 55" version.

Great colour. Gaming at 120fps 1440p is awesome. Motion smoothing in movies during fast moving action scenes or during handheld ie shaky cam scenes leaves artifacts at high smoothing, and unwatchable judder at low smoothing. Maybe not everyone will notice, but my friend's Sony 9000e is much smoother motion wise.

In sum, Sony for motion, this Samsung for gaming, and OLED if not using as a computer monitor and are in a dark room (depending on who you ask).

  • I have this 65 and I am hoping to get as cheaper as possible to request the difference back :)
Watching or playing, the quality is just wow.

  • I have the 55" version very happy with it, I payed a similar price to this for the 55"

  • Got both OLED and QLED…i watch Qled most of the time..OLED only at bedroom at night…try to watch Oled at daytime in bright home..and you will be depressed.

    • Why depressed? You can still see TV?

It might not be perfect viewing, but it isn't like you a straining to see the picture.

  • Horrible input lag for gaming

    • +1

Where do you get your info? rtings gives it an 8.8/10

      https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/q7fn-q7f-q7-2018

    • WTF?? It has 200hz and Game mode. My Xbox One S recognised the 4K automatically, asked to apply the 4K changes and voila.
I am playing Gears of War 4 and I don't see lag at all. You are probably doing something very wrong.

      • Update 6/11/2018: 1440p @ 120 Hz input lag has decreased as of firmware 1103. The review has been updated.

Sorry guys when I tested it back in September I was getting 80ms

      • Any ref or guide for 200hz ie 200fps? Best I can see in setting is 120hz 1080p or 1440p.

  • To everyone here who has the TV, what is the One Connect Box like? Seems like a cool feature but is there any issues with it?

    • One unique cable — fiber connection cable — comes from the TV to this One Connect Box. Then, you connect everything to this box such as HDMI, optical audio, HDMI ARC audio system, USB devices such as a keyboard. This allows the TV to look prettier without that much cable connected behind it. The fiber cable is pretty long so you can hide everything without leaving that mess of cables.

But, since it is a fiber cable, you cannot bend it or it is the last thing you will do hahaha
These QLED 2018 TVs have Express Warranty which gives you a free replacement for the remote control and one connection cable during the first 3 months only.

      • These QLED 2018 TVs have Express Warranty which gives you a free replacement for the remote control and one connection cable during the first 3 months only.

to get the replacement, do I have to sent them the original?

        • +1

Nope, just open a chat with the support, they might request your TV serial number and that is. Samsung website says you have right of replacement because of fault or just because you want to have a backup. I haven't done it yep coz it might take up to 10 days and take into consideration we are at the end of the year, it might be a pain in the ass so I will wait until January to request my backups :)

It is funny coz as soon as I contacted the support and said to them what I just said to you, his answer was "cool, so what replacement you want?" I was like "What the heck?" I was just checking if the information the guy at JB-HIFI Home gave me was true hahah

          • +1

@ratoloko: that's great, good that they know and acknowledge people want those things as backup

      • I was told you get 2x cables and 2x remotes within the first 12 months.

I already ordered one spare set, and have another set in my calendar to order end of 2019.

  • QLED is nice as it has close to 100% colour gamut BUT viewing angles are poor. Great picture and contrast directly in front but alters badly at slightly off centre.

    • Not at all true for slightly off centre. Colour does shift if you’re watching it from the extreme sides but for a lounge setup of 2+3+2 with only the 3 seater directly in front the difference wasn’t noticeable from any seating position.

The brightness is so intense on these and the colour pops so much you honestly don’t notice the colour degradation, even if you’ve got it in back of mind.

      Source: I own a 75” Q9FN and a 55” Q7FN.

      • Not all true at all @Pidim

I own a 65 Q7FN and the angle is a problem only when you are watching through an extreme side.

I've never watched or played a game with such an amazing experience as I am doing with this TV. Everything else is just blablabla

      • I’ve looked at them and not hsppy with what I’ve seen. At the end of the day it’s not an emissive tech so is still just a LED TV with the same issues.

        • A the end of the day, it is an awesome TV, it doesn't have the physical problems that the currents OLEDs have for half of the price.

Within 3 or 5 years, we will probably have new technologies that will cover the black colour light capacity from the LED TVs, and the burned pixel from the OLED TVs.

  • +1

I am after 75" TV. Any deals around

  • Any of you TV experts care to comment on which is better mostly for watching streaming services this or the Sony X90F? I don’t do gaming. OLED is still over my budget.

    • +1

Samsung's software is nicer to use than Sony's - faster, easier to access recommendations, easier to use. But Sony's is more flexible if you need more apps than just the basic Netflix/Stan/Youtube etc. due to running Android.

There are also other considerations such as upscaling and motion processing. Essentially the Samsung would be better for gaming but the Sony better for sport and movies (especially if they're lower quality such as free to air TV or DVD/Blu-ray).

The X90 also has a better backlighting system, meaning there'll be far less haloing around bright areas on dark backgrounds.

    • +2

I am not an expert but Sony runs Android and one of the most common problems are lag.
When I bought my Samsung, the attendant said he bought a Sony TV one day before and he was so damn devastated.

The 65 Q7FN has an amazing response to the commands and pretty easy to find anything. It uses a Linux based operating system just like Android is a Linux based operating system, but much faster.

      • +1

Agree, Tizen OS on Samsung TVs is definitely snappier compared to Android TV especially the boot up time.

        • Thanks all for the replies. I don't game so it looks as though the Sony could be the best option, I also watch a fair bit of sport. I've been following prices for a little while and it seems the price on the Sony 65 X90F could drop close to $2k for boxing day (hopefully). I've heard about the android TV performance issues but already have an apple TV4k so will likely be plugging that in anyhow.

  • I am also after a 75'TV - any deals?

  • This is a good deal, cheaper than the Q6. Goes to show it's best to be flexible with models these days.

  • bought it for $2750 delivered on 25th november :( this is an amazing price, the TV is worth it. the smart features are great. any reflection on the screen can make it a bit difficult to watch sometimes.

  • Does anyone know how delivery works, if I am not home do I have to collect it from the post office or they call me?

    • +2

They will leave it in your letter box

      • The card I presume. Bit hard for me to transport it home as I do not have the room in my car. Would be nice if they could call as it's a large item. Thanks for the input rougewold.

        • Is that you James ?

  • Looking at the spec sheet, it says "Mobile to TV – Mirroring, DLNA - Yes (Android 6.0↑ with Screen Cast capabilities)", is this equivalent to built-in Chromecast?

  • Spent close to this for the 65" NU8000 only recently which has terrible local dimming :(

  • +2

Damn this is a really good price; bought TV few weeks ago at higher price?! Overall not regretful because is a really great TV for this price range IMO

    Pros for me include:
    - Value for money
    - Impressive brightness; really vivid, vibrant colours
    - Great gaming capability with low input lag
    - Didn't think OS would be so important because I previously just used Chromecast, but I have to say, easy smooth access to Netflix, Prime Video, and YouTube via remote has exceeded my expectations and can't go back

Cons for me, in rough order of importance:
    - Stuttering during slower motion is noticeable and distracting (e.g. can feel a bit of stutter from slow panning shots from Planet Earth / Mowgli initial panning forest shots on Netflix). I reckon this is the major deal breaker for those who are sensitive to this sort of stuff and sites like rtings don't give enough emphasis (as in this should be a major con in their review summary)
    - Black Frame Insertion / LED Clear Motion (a mode which makes it darker but significantly smoother motion) is problematic, namely the obvious flickering. i.e. with LED Smooth Motion on bright white scenes, you'll notice there's a constant flickering to the screen - this is probably due to mainly looking at 60hz content (mainly tested on the Nintendo Switch) - see BFI section on rtings: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/q7fn-q7f-q7-2018. To depict what it's sort of like, see this video, but IT IS WAY BETTER / LESS NOTICEABLE THAN THIS ON THE Q7FN, the video link is just an example of 'flickering' that I'm trying to describe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4j6a_FLYIs
    - A major con for most people perhaps is the limited viewing angle. If you have a decent-sized living room around the TV, this could be problematic as the blacks look faded and colours lose vibrancy
    - Generally the blacks for lower quality content are a bit crushed and doesn't display too well. I've tried various content on different settings and found that TV looks incredible with higher quality content and HDR (e.g. Altered Carbon on Netflix), but when watching lower quality content such as Mad Men it seems to blur/crush the blacks a lot more even at high gamma thus makes darker scenes too dark and an overall feel of loss of image quality
    - Local dimming is noticeable, exacerbated when viewing the TV on an angle. Major issue is when local dimming is set to High and you have subtitles where whenever subtitles come on you can see the entire screen trying to compensate and adjust, resulting in sporadic, constant brightness adjustments as subtitles come in and out, which is annoying. I find this more of an issue with lower quality content, and less noticeable with high quality content

    • Just reflecting after posting and looking at the Good Guys ebay sale on atm, I reckon for those who are conscious about motion stuttering, flickering, and local dimming on the Q7FN, it might be worth shelling out a few hundred more to get the Q8FN @ $2636

      See rtings comparison here: https://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/motion/image-flicker (Q7FN 6.0, Q8FN 7.9)

  • Bought one. This passes my Amazon test with flying colours. In general if an electronic item is cheaper on a deal here than Amazon USA then it's a pretty good deal.
The Amazon price is USD $2098 approx AUD $2900.

For whatever reason the 75 inchers are relatively overpriced here. For example the Sony X85F 75 inch is USD $1798 on Amazon, they want AUD4000 here, 3200 at deal time.

So I gave it up and got this quality 65 instead :)

  • Noticed more are coming available to collect at store, save on the postage if you can.

  • QLED is just a fancy and more sexy LED? Lol

  • Anyone in WA got this deal in store? Would love a receipt to price match today! Cheers
