    • What do you mean? Can you provide more details

      • +1

        he's doin some mafs

      • Look at term & condition, that $80 gives you 7500 Qantas points per month.

So if cancel early, you will only get the points for the month you pay?

  • I think the main question here is would y'all be approved or not, 1000 clicks already!

  • +1

What part of "Forfeited if you cancel." is difficult to understand?

In T&C under "Two months free access fee on Red Plans" (the very end of page), it says "Forfeited if you cancel."

So, on offer is 40k points for $234+$25 (I couldn't trigger the discount on trying to close browser). That's 0.65¢/point. Not worth it when you can get almost free points in some credit card deals.

    • that's a 0.65c/point profit!

      • +1

It's not profit. It's the cost of acquisition.

    • We're all assuming it means the remainder is forfeited when cancelled… ie they won't pay you $80 if you cancel after one month - you forfeit the remaining free month…

    • Vodafone says the points will be posted within one month. Even if it's between one and two months, you're still in the two months free period. Once the points have posted to your frequent flyer account, they can't be withdrawn.

  • Sold out I think.

    Cant add phone

    • nor the other Huawei cheapie.
Next up is the Samsung J5 pro for $299.

Just got the official Qantas promo email on this:

Start 2019 right with a new phone, a new plan and a huge boost to your Qantas Points balance. Sign up online to a selected Vodafone plan before midnight 31 December 2018, and not only will you receive the usual double points, but we’ll double them again. That’s FOUR times the points for signing up online instead of instore.

    Here’s how it works:
You'll earn 20,000 Qantas Points* when you sign up online to a new Vodafone $60 Red Plus plan^ (Total Min Cost $60 + 100% of the instalments of your chosen ) or $60 12 month SIM only Plus plan~ (Total Min Cost $720). That's instead of the usual 5,000 points earned instore.*
You'll earn 40,000 Qantas Points* when you sign up online to a new Vodafone $80 Red Plus Plan^ (Total Min Cost $80 + 100% of the instalments of your chosen device) or $80 12 month SIM only Plus plan~ (Total Min Cost $960). That's instead of the usual 10,000 points earned instore.*

Not sure where $234 is coming in the equation from other comments. this even clearly states:
You'll earn 40,000 Qantas Points* when you sign up online to a new Vodafone $80 Red Plus Plan^ (Total Min Cost $80 + 100% of the instalments of your chosen device)

    • Best case is $80 + $74 for the phone, assuming you get the points and cancel before the second month is charged.

    • Hey mate, would you mind pm'ing me and sending that email so I can screenshot the minimum spend? Would gladly appreciate it, cheers.

    • You won't get points until your second month have been charge hence 80+80+"74" = $234

      • The 1st 2 months seem to be free:

~Get 2 months plan fees on us

        The terms read:
Two months free access fee on Red Plans
For personal use only. Offer available to approved new and upgrading customers (‘Eligible Customers’). Two monthly plan fees waived when Eligible Customers sign up or upgrade to any Red Plan, Red Cap Plan or Red Plus Plan. Excludes rate plan change, Business Flex and Business Advance Plans. Forfeited if you cancel. After third or fourth month, the minimum monthly spend is $35, $45, $60 or $80 plus applicable device costs. Not for commercial or resale purposes. Offer not transferable or redeemable for cash. Subject to change.

        • Forfeited if you cancel.

          In your post…

          • @highdealer: They took the 2 months free off the deal.

  • The 2 cheap handsets seem to be out of stock

  • E9 is out of stock…!!! Got Ozbargained!!

    • E9 just broke the sales record for vodafone for the day….lol
Mine got delivered today, ordered on friday

  • 9600 points get me an Adelaide to Sydney flight. So effectively 4 Adelaide Sydney flights inclydivr of baggage. Thus would be worth around $400 .

  • can confirm, all cheap handsets out

  • +2

My partner and I both got declined at the credit check stage despite having clean credit records.. Oh well.

    • +1

Also declined despite very good credit score… Seems a little suspect.

      • +1

Maybe they're after bad credit scores

        • I've got a feeling the rep actually had no clue what they were saying… They stated I was declined for the handset, though accepted for the plan. Rep then started saying things about credit check/etc. Wouldn't be surprised if I was declined a handset because it's now out of stock and nothing to do with credit check…

          • @[Deactivated]: I was declined yesterday before this deal was front page of ozbargain. I believe they're either denying the combination of cheap phone + expensive plan or intentionally filtering people trying this trick.

            • @stirlo: Yeah would assume so, seems very suspect. Got email now saying it was indeed due to credit score, though they said I was approved for the $80 sim only plan… Didn't get approved for $179 min cost, but approved for $960, lol.

              • @[Deactivated]: Same here, plan approved but need to "wait 4 months" to add a $99 phone, LOL

                • @stirlo: Did you end up signing up still?

                  • @[Deactivated]: No way. Qantas points wouldn't apply then. They were referring to a new contract to add the phone not pausing this signup/deal for me. I made sure to request an immediate cancellation and reference number for it to ensure they don't "accidentally" sign me up for BYO without my consent.

                    • @stirlo: Yeah, same with mine. Soon as they mentioned a different contract I denied it.

The other contract still gives 40k, but it's 12mo contract at $80/mo with first month free.

    • Credit check approved for the SIM ($80/mo), but not for the Handset ($3.25/mo). Asked if I'd like to continue with the SIM only plan? Told them to shove it.

      • +1

Same here, I've got a feeling it's actually because phone is out of stock now… Has anyone had an approval?

Note: DON'T accept the sim only plan offer. I went ahead with it and the rep began the process of signing me up to a 12mo sim only plan - it's not simply the $80 Red Plus mo-to-mo plan without a handset.

  • There's another potential angle to this offer.
Today my ADSL2 internet, which costs $60 a month, has been going like a snail. Downloads have been around 1mbs. So I backed to backed it against my mobile phone, which is on Lebara (uses the Voda network), and that was running at around 35mbs, which is about the speed one might expect from a 50mbs NBN plan.
The current $80 Red Plan offer extends to 150GB/month at full speed, and is unlimited, but throttled to around 1.5mbs after that, so about what I am already getting.
My household usually uses around 100-120gb a month, so that could be a good fit.
So, for an extra $20 a month, which is about what it would cost to jump to NBN, I can get internet about as good, 2 months free, 40K Qantas points, plus whatever Cashrewards offers for their part of the deal.
    Tempting…

    • Keep in mind that you need to add a phone to get that deal. If you want the SIM only deal, it's a 12 month contract and 100GB.

  • My order has shipped!

  • Picked up my phone / SIM this morning

    • Have you received the email to enter your QFF number?

      • Yes - essentially it just directed me here to fill out my info: https://www.vodafone.com.au/plans/qantas-form

        • I just received phone and sim with no activation details etc.

          • @ilostnemo: have you checked to see if it's already activated…

            • @tommynolips: Yes

It was very strange. I received a “please wait we are doing a credit check” email, then a we are sending out the order to a we have sent out the order.

I received no, this is your new number or activation instructions.

              I’ll visit a store today.

              Thanks

FYI for those that got declined… Voda uses Equifax for credit checks, and Equifax don't yet factor in your repayment history, so your score with them will be much lower than other credit agencies who have included repayment history.

After you've done one credit check with Voda and decline, you can't apply for any other Voda products for another 4 months.

Fail system as they could be declining really good customers.

    • question - are there any agencies other than equifax which aus telcos use for credit checks?

i'm wondering if you fail the vodafone credit check (using equifax) if there are other telcos you may still have a chance of obtaining a plan through?

  • Not suggesting anyone risks this but in my previous experience the QF points have come through very quickly - long before the 30 day network guarantee period is up…..

  • With the way this has spread around the internet, I wonder if Vodafone will try to wriggle out of this (or delay points credit, etc)?

  • I've been keeping an eye on the vodafone site.
Not suprised that the 2 cheaper handsets aren't back in stock.
I think someone @ Vodafone relised the deal was too much of a good one with the 40k points attached.

  • Just got the 40k points following the steps of this post. 2 day turnaround!

Should I cancel now or wait a few weeks

    • Did you get a text/email confirming your claim had been approved?

  • Points credited last night

  • +1

Points credited yesterday and $25 credit was applied to my last bill (20 December as I’m an existing Vodafone customer). Now to see how much it will end up costing! So far this is a very good deal!

  • Has anyone already cancelled the plan? What was the final cost?
