  • How much is installation for something like this typically?

    • +2

I paid $700/$750 for a 5kw installed in the upstairs of a two storey house recently. Regional area. Not sure how much that’s helps. But I’d assume no more then $800 back to back is what I’d expect to pay

        Thanks for the input, cheers

Its Rinnai mate…seriously go for a more reputable brand like Panasonic, Fujitsu or Mitusbishi. 3 star rating for a reverse cycle is pretty horrendous. Aircon is one thing you can't afford to make mistake, installation & removal cost is a biatch.

Can I ask which 7kw system is greater than 3 stars, if that's what you're concerned about?

    • +5

3 star rating is typically the best from the other brands, too. I'm not sure if you've done any recent research into aircons and how they now do the star-rating, but my understanding is that this 3star rating is actually quite efficient.
Anyways, I can't argue with your opinion to go with a more reputable brand. But the price difference of the Rinnai at $1100 delivered compared to a Panasonic or MHI or ME at ~$1600-$2200 for comparable efficiency and features makes it a worthy option.

The similar size units in those brands on the GG website seem to be around 2.5 star ratting, so 3 ain’t bad.

The smaller (eg 3KW) systems get up around 4 and 5 stars.

      • Hmm - wonder if a 2.5 star ratting is better than a 3 star rating? (Must proof read my posts)

  • good deal. I'm currently in the process of shopping around for a new 7kw unit. Local electrician has quoted us for a MHI lower spec unit at $1500ish, lower efficiency. We can get the higher efficiency unit for a few hundred more, if we wanted. Or get this super-cheap Rinnai and pocket the $ difference and use it for immediate savings for when it eventually (might) die at a sooner date.

    • I did the same. Was being quoted $1700 - $2000 for a 7kw unit, so decided to use the savings to cover the install

      • But according to ebay, the delivery of the unit wouldn't happen until Monday….
My electrician can install a 7kw Mitsubishi heavy industry unit on Thursday, but I would be paying full retail.

So spend $5-600 extra for guaranteed aircon over the Xmas break, or wait, but save the coin.

I just did click and collect, it was ready within an hour

Can pick up a 7KW MHI at Bunnings for $1500ish if you have the means to transport it?
We installed one of these last year. It's been great, very quiet and does the job well.
Noticeably cheaper to run than our old 7kw unit too.

After trying 6 Harvey norman stores in vic today i have successfully got it for $1039 (my cost after 3 Amex card cashback $889 ) price match with ebay goodguys.

If u dont wanna spend ur time doing all this Harvey norman Dandenong is happy to do it for $1090. Still good price if u using Amex $50 cashback promo.

    • I called one HN, and asked them to match a price of 1100, which they did without hesitation. Too easy. Just need to drive 20mins out of my way to pick it up from their warehouse. But this way I can have it installed on Thursday or Friday, which is when our electrician was planning on dropping around (he lives across the road from us).

FYI Harvey Norman has a sale on Panasonic units and the 7.1KW unit is $1348 which is pretty cheap for a quality unit

Back to back install is around $500 to $700. Stay away from this brand. It's an investment. Get a Daikin, Panasonic or Fujitsu. They last. Look at product review at all their great reviews on Rhinnai.

Can someone recommend an installer doing this for under $800 in eastern Melbourne area.

  • +1

I agree - you're spending $800 or so to install it - you don't want to install shit. Install quality and do it once and have it last.

I bought a Fujitsu R/C for my home at least 15+ years ago when Fujitsu was the brand to beat… only replacing it now, it still works, heats and cools, but has become noisy and occasionally leaks in more humid conditions.

A few days ago I bought 3 Mitsubishi Heavy industries units from Bunnings, 7.1Kw and two 2.5kw, all models recommended by Choice magazine in 2018 tests, Delivered for $3,165 total. Ordered online at Bunnings on Sunday and was delivered by courier the very next day.

I sourced a local professional installer from Gumtree, fully accredited with over 40 glowing testimonials, who will install all the units on brackets off the ground, for $1,540. That includes degassing and removing the old unit.

Total cost to have all family areas and two bedrooms cooled in my small home, $4705.

    My points.

If you look around you will find affordable, top-shelf products and services.

Saving a few bucks on big investments by buying second-rate products will cost you more in the end. And, the argument about buying a new one when it craps itself in a couple of years because you saved on the purchase price doesn't work when you factor in the reinstallation costs of upwards of $450.

When the Rinnai develops a fault that you get told is not a warranty problem, read the reviews, and you're left with nothing…it won't be a bargain.
