  • You've got the AUD/USD thing the wrong way round in the title.

    • Thank you for your feedback,I've just corrected it.

  • Nice looking device. Definitely the future. We just moved in to a new (rented) house and you annoyingly need the key to both lock and unlock on the inside. Why design locks that way? It means I always need to have a key near the door as it's a safety hazard otherwise. What do other clever ozbargainers do

    • -2

      sounds illegal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • I generally agree. I think it was on ozBargain I had a back and forth with someone about it. They liked the key required thing because it prevents their kids escaping at will.

      • prevents them from escaping on fire too, perfect

        • This was my argument too. Also potentially traps a break and enter, forcing them to fight.

    • +1

They're called deadlocks and have always been around. They also help reduce insurance premiums due to being more difficult to unlock. Unfortunately they are also a fire hazard but you could just leave the key in the door when at home.

      • +3

They specifically are “double cylinder deadlocks”. You can get single, which I believe are more common, that are still deadlocks but do not require a key from the inside. My insurance in the past hasn’t specifically asked for double cylinder deadlocks. I don’t even think my NRMA insurance asks about deadlocks at all now days to be honest, just that the house can be secured. They do still ask about alarm systems and whether any fitted are “back to base” or “local” only.

I’d suggest single deadlocks are far safer for something like a unit if that door is your one way out of the apartment and you need to make an escape. Some people argue for double should you have an intruder but again, I think you’re better off allowing a burglar easy escape rather than risk them panicking and reacting in a way that causes personal threat because they feel cornered.

Some say doubles illegal but I’m not sure that’s the case, although perhaps they are in some states.

As for what you do if you don’t like that situation OP. Maybe ask the agents if you can change the lock to a single cylinder deadlock even if it’s at your expense. They’re pretty cheap, $20 to $30. State you’re concerned about quick exit in an emergency. You’re likely not entitled to but if you aren’t going to get random spot checks you could swap it yourself and then swap it back when you’re due for an inspection too (so the agents key gets them in). Again that’d be pretty easy although expect questions if they find out.

Lenovo AIR TWS earphone looks interesting, is it BT5.0?

    • The specs say v4.2
      Is that any good?

      • Twice as good as v2.1*.

        *I’m talking shit.

        • Logical though ;-)

  • Alfawise E202 Touchscreen Fingerprint Smart Lock Right Open - BLACK.

    How about left open?

  • Any chance of open API's?

  • I can’t install a smart lock because it requires to drill extra holes on rented house :-(

    • Ultraloq ul1 and ul3 don't

  • +1

Pretty sure security 101 is removing attack vectors so instead of having one (a key) this has five. Does it also connect to the internet making six attack vectors?

  • Thanks OP, I just ordered two smart locks

  • They make a gaming keyboard and a door handle who r they

  • +1

Is it wrong in wanting to buy this smart lock and attempt to hack it?

    Five ways to hack Unlock
Support password, RFID card, fingerprint, mechanical key, APP - 5 kinds of hacking unlocking mode

    • Easier just to pick the lock

  • +5

Everyone commenting on hacking the lock, security weakness, deadbolts being more secure…

If you're away long term, they'd just pry the door open, put on some safety orange vests, reverse the rented mover's truck and empty your house out.

If you're away short term, they'd do the same but get away with less stuff.

If you're home, they'd just break the glass and get you to cut to the chase and bring out the most valuable stuff.

If you have your house secured like a bunker, they'd come in through the roof and unbolt an exit from the inside.

If you're thinking the cops will keep you safe, just remember they can't help you with a stolen phone when you've already located the thief.

TLDR - just get the damn lock because it is convenient to lock and unlock. If someone wants to get in, they will regardless of anything you do.

    • How's your career in thievery going then?

      • +1

If I were to be a criminal, I'd fancy myself a shadow mob boss.

I'd be the most unassuming bald middle age, slightly overweight, shoulder hair curling out of my polo top, no tattoos…

But try to open a Subway or sandwhich shop anywhere near my sandwich deli…

    • Spot on mate. I can leave my door permanently unlocked and it won't make any difference. It actually minimizes the damage should someone decide to break in.

      • What about from an insurance perspective. If there is no signs of break and enter, and no one was home would they still pay out? Knowing how insurance companies try to weasel out of every claim, then i'd be doubtful they would pay.

        • Yeah good idea to show some damage to the insurance company. You need to demonstrate that you have taken reasonable steps to secure your property. I was just making a general comment purely from a 'risk' perspective. A lock like this would fit the bill though. Nothing over the top yet adequate from an insurance point of view.

  • Does anyone know if this will fit a std door or do I have to drill additional holes for the installation?

How long do the batteries last?

    Thanks

    • Hi,it fits the standard door, you don't need to add additional holes to replace your old locks.
The battery can last for 6 months for normal use.

      • Thanks ordered one

  • Just bought the smartlock. I live in a secure building but I am forever worried that I am going to lock myself out. Hopefully this can save me some grief in the future.
