    What are the others?

I got one of these as a back up work phone. I don't know if all <$400 phones are like this but the battery life is horrendous. Doesn't even hold a charge for 2 days if i leave it in my bag (have checked the display settings and put them all on energy saving mode). Did anyone else get this problem or did i get a dud

    • My spare S20 base model can do up to 1 week with battery saver on.

    • Wife gets 2 to 3 days out of the battery and she's not holding back on the usage. You got a dud.

    • i think you got a dud.

    • +1

If left in a bag then it may have been continuously scanning for stronger signal

G86 with massive battery just got announced, so they're clearing old stock LOL :

The new G86 RRP is $100 more than the G85

    • +1

damn , that's a pretty darn big battery

    • +2

Fast charging these days makes these big batteries kinda niche… 2000mah more than standard batteries. Quick charging maybe 10mins will give u the same amount as an extra 2000mah.

      • +1

The G86 has a maximum 30W fast charge. The charging will be very slow for 6720mAh.

        • +3

yeh… niche product. if you really need long battery life and cant get access to a charger then a powerbank would be more versatile.

          • @Jaduqimon: For overseas travel purposes (via airports), make sure that powerbank is "CCC" certified.

      • +1

I just like not being dependent on chargers. Quick charging isn't that healthy for the battery either because it generates more heat. But then again I'm a bit weird and OCD, so maybe it is niche

        • i mean as long as you get through the day on 1 charge right? and if you are planing to go more than a day without charge, most likely travelling or like camping… then you would probably bring a powerbank.

          • @Jaduqimon: I like to only charge that phone to 80 percent and sometimes I game on the phone, so yeah I'm pretty niche haha, this phone is perfect for me

    • That's interesting that they're releasing the Power variant of the G86 in Australia.

The base G86 has a more standard sized battery (5.2 Ah).

      https://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_moto_g86_5g-13917.php

Usually the Power variants are exclusive to poorer countries like India.

This might also explain the price increase.
It is ultimately a more premium product with that giant battery.

      • Yes agreed, and it's screen seems excellent

    • i have the g84 i would hope the camera is better in the g86 i would maybe update

    • When the convenience of FAST-charging is strong-> heat & higher-voltage charging (15W+ & 4.2V+) degrade battery FASTER…see AccuBattery-APP data for yourself. https://accubattery.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/210224725-…, https://batteryuniversity.com/article/bu-808-how-to-prolong-…

I was using my phone outdoor @ 35Β°C & I saw battery-temp. @ 45Β°C…EV-cars never allow battery-temp to get this high. Maybe FACT-check your understanding?

In the not-too-distance-future, maybe it's fashionable for-some to own a new-phone yearly. Not a great fan of curved displays on budget phones. Edge 50 neo is better during sales.

    • Yeah get that or wait for the g86 power

      This is under $240…

Z Fold7 is $3349 at Jb Hi Fi.

  • Any Android phones around this price that are smaller? Close to IPhone XS size (5.85” diagonal)?

I want to be able to stick one in my running shorts and 6,67” won’t go in the tiny pockets.

    • Get some big boy shorts πŸ˜‚

Have you looked at running belts? I've used flipbelt air for 2 years now. Holds an S25 ultra sized phone comfortably. Don't even notice it's there. No bounce. Easy in and out. Good for carrying keys and gels etc.

      • Nah, the tiny splitties get me too much good attention to give them up. Maybe I can find some half-tights with a large phone pocket.

    • I hold my G84 in my hand while running, anything over 6 inches is too big to fit in my shorts.

  • What Android version/updates is this likely to get? Great price but I'd be a bit wary if it's only getting a year or two of updates.

  • Is anyone having update issues with g85 ,seen some people online saying they haven't received android 15 update and still on 14,my pixel 6 is on 16

  • Having been burned by the G84 and the camera/5g issue, can I confirm this one doesn't have the same problem?

    • I have camera issue but not the 5g issue i also hope so.

  • Bargain phone, but be mindful repairing oled screens is pricey to repair and sourcing them out on ali Xpress is a nightmare compared to LCD, so do not drop this phone and crack the screen, as your better off just buying the phone again.

Overall bargain, just wish it didn't have to water drop screen so tedious to repair when placing the screen over the camera.

It has a curved screen+oled+water drop camera, I dunno what's worse detecting fake AI images or sourcing this type of screen out.

SO do not drop this phone, get a heavy duty case, protector, hell buy two just incase.

    • Yeah maybe better to buy a flat screen phone eg Edge 50 neo or g86 power

Got this one for my dad as his S9+ battery just crapped out a couple days ago. The phone is very decent for the price, thanks for posting !

Android 14 has 20 months left based on 3.5 years from release date.

  • JB didn't price match. Said no stocks around

  • Not sure if this beats the last year deal Motorola G54 5G $149 JB hifi. That battery life is awesome better thns flagships 5/5 stellar

It's $90 more but not sure you getting that much value
