Bought it last deal. Excellent fan. will definitely recommend/

    • +2

I am the same - thought it would be just a fan like people say but so far it has been good as.

    • +2

It helps to think of it as less of a fan and more of an air circulator.

  • Is it noisy

    • Yes but worth it compared to traditional fan

    • +1

Yes. But it pushes more air per DB than a pedestal fan.

      • Really? What are the specs? I went to jb where they had all different fan brands running, feels about the same with a few much cheaper ones. Design is nice though

        • It's different. You can feel the breeze the whole area unlike traditional fan. I haven't used my aircon since I got this fan even when temp hits 40degrees. Savings me huge amount of electricity bill.

      • +3

And a jet engine pushes more air per dB than a vornado. Doesn’t mean it’s better in my lounge room.

        • +3

That's for you to decide. If you want less CFM, get a mini desk fan.

At max speed it's a bit noisier than a pedestal fan at max (which are far from quiet), but is significantly breezier.

    • On the highest setting it's rather noisy, but good to quickly move air. On the low setting, it works great as well, and very quiet. Easy to sleep with it running. I've bought 4 of these and love them.

    • Creates noise, yes. But it's all air noise - no motor noise (unlike our dyson fan which has a much higher pitch noise). So even though you can hear it, even on low, it's easy to get to sleep, as it's like white noise and just fades into the background.

    Is this not $150 @costco ? - normal price

    • Yep

    • Yep, $149.something, seen tonight @ North Lakes.

    • Yep . Got a friend to get for me last week for $149.99 at Costco .

      • membership fee?
  • -1

Honestly i find it overrated, even on the lowest setting it's loud. Just get the kogan $89 one tbh.

    • -1

Lol at the negs, guess people love their fans.
I totally agree with you, they should call this thing the Apple ifan

      • I agree. Had one for a week and it's pxss weak for the noise level (think of a chihuahua). Returned it without hesitation.

Buy a high velocity fan from $80 and point it to the ceiling for the same result (and more quite).

Airflow is measured at litre/second, with a small size duct (Vornado is relatively small compared to other high velocity fan), the fan will need to generate airflow at a high speed to achieve the same airflow. Given the high velocity fans does a pretty good job in that, unlikely that Vornado can "push" (in their marketing term) more air than an $80/90 high velocity fan. The only advantage of a Vornada is the design to encourage uni-direction of air flow. However, it will make no significant difference in a fan (oppose to jet engines) to propel air into a single direction.

The only "innovative" fan in the past decades is the Dyson, and costs $400+.

        The $90 fan https://www.bunnings.com.au/mistral-50cm-black-hi-power-floo…

This one will really "push" air through http://www.pureventilation.com.au/product/fanco/tt-mixflow-i…

        • +1

Yeah pretty much tldr is smaller fan size = fan needs to spin higher for same quantity of air moved.
If you get a high velocity fan and put a cone in front of it to direct air essentially you get the same thing except the noise of the vornado is higher pitched and more annoying. Instead of a whirring noise of a big fan its a high pitch one. If anyone is into pc's its like running a 40mm fan vs 120mm fan.

        • interesting fan on the 2nd link, I have various sizes of Vornado (both bigger/smaller than the 660 on the post) and they all doing a great job apart from the smaller models.

Think I will buy the one on the 2nd link just for fun and test.

          • +1

@siuol: Well. It's not a fan, it's to extract air for ventilation. (Think commercial grade ventilators).

            • @[Deactivated]: Thanks for your info here googleyahoo69 - mind if I ask a question on that TT mixflow fan (2nd link)?

I'm renting a 60s brick veneer with poor insulation and 12ft ceilings - it cops full afternoon sun meaning it's hot as sh!t summer evenings. Do you think this fan with a flexible duct will be able to drag the trapped hot air out of a room's ceiling of an evening?

              • +1

@carwashhair: No idea. Initially posted the link as a joke because so many people get sucked into marketing terms such as "pushing air" etc without trying to understand simple physics. I have seen those "fan" working in an underground car park, it's extremely noisy.

At the least, it will allow replacing your indoor air with what's outside (when ducted) and in theory bring down (or up) the temp depends on what's outside. In theory, when replacing x litre of air indoor, time = total volume / airflow less "leakage" .

      • +1

The neggers must be really big fans…

        I'll see myself out.

5 Year Replacement Warranty is good

    • I’ve got a desk fan that’s about 30yrs old and $20 10+yr old pedestals. All fine.

Long warranty on a simple device like a fan should not be a selling point IMO.

      • +1

True, but many things today are not built like they were in those days.

  • +2

amazing device!!! very happy with it

  • +3

We love ours. Want to get another one. Makes a huge difference. You don't know how much difference it makes until you use it and then turn it off.

We lost some of the rubber feet off the bottom of ours and contacted customer service. They sent us a few for free no questions asked. We happened to find our lost ones a few days later though. Customer service were easy to deal with, even if our issue was very minor. 5 year warranty is pretty good for a fan too.

Finally bought it after lot of hesitation spending so much $$ on a fan.

With ebay 10% off gift card + Goodguys 20% , brings this to $138
Hope it lives up to all the hype

  • +1

My ~$14 kmart pedistal fan from 5 years ago is still going great. I clean the blades and grill every so often and it stays quiet enough to have next to the bed for sleeping.

I actually bought 2 at the time and the second one is still boxed in the cupboard waiting to be called for action.

    • Same here. Does the same job as the $89 Kogan fan for a fragment of the price

  • Don't think of this like a traditional fan. I generally don't like fans blowing directly on me especially at night. Dunno what it is but I wake up feeling sore. (Could be something to do an Asian wive's tale) Also if you have long hair it's really annoying having your hair blown around in your face.

The biggest thing for me is you don't have to have the fan blowing directly on you to feel cool. It really is different. I can understand if it's not for everyone. It works really well for us. We have the one fan and my wife and I are constantly fighting over it. She wants to use it in the bedroom and I want to use it in the computer room. We'll eventually get another one. Hoping Costco reduce the price after Christmas.

  • Why I'm getting "This code can't be applied to your order." any thing I'm missing -thanks

  • When using the Vornado, whilst you can stand in front of it, ideally you should aim it towards a wall on an angle (or even the ceiling) and have it bounce around the room to circulate the air. It may take a minute or two before you start feeling the air flow. If that doesn't work, you may need to adjust the location or angle of the fan. The benefit over a traditional fan is that you don't need it aimed at you and constantly blowing towards you to feel the air movement, and for those fans that oscillate, basically you only benefit when the fan is directly aimed at you, but once it moves away, you get hot again. The Vornado creates an effect of a gentle breeze blowing in your room.

    • -1

All fans can achieve the same result, particularly the high velocity fans at half the cost.

    • Yep works amazing in my open plan living area. Have not yet felt any effect upstairs though. I was hoping that it can circulate cool air from aircon downstairs. Perhaps I need to reposition better. Anybody have experience with this?

  • Bought mine 2 years ago for $260 and can highly recommend it. It is still a bit noisy at its lowest setting but the breeze it creates throughout my bedroom really helps with sleep.

    • $260 is way too much for it. I paid $138 and still feel its pricey for what it is

      • I was contemplating between this or the Dyson (iirc the AM03 which sold for 300). I went with the Vornado as it is supposed to push more air and I am really happy with it.

I can't recall what other models were available at similar price range but I wanted something that did not need to directly blow at me.

  • I have a fan of this type, a Japanese brand named IRIS. As to my experience, it does the job decently. I haven't compare it to any other brands, but all I know is, with this thing turned on, the room actually cool much faster. I usually use it in two scenarios: aircon turned on, or it's raining outside while it's still not cooling inside the house. I put it nealy the window to allow it "suck in" more fresh air from outside. Last but not least, it cost me for only less than $40.

I'd like to see the 633DC released here (we only get the 683DC pedestal model). I have the smaller 533DC and the smooth variable control ranges from gentle and barely audible to forceful and loud, so instead of 3 set positions someone else chose, I can have it 'just right' for me.

    • What size Room would you recommend the 533dc for? 683dc is very expensive.

  • Bought one from the previous deal and I have not picked up from the store

    • So you paid and not picking it up?

    • I don't believe you. Send me your order details and prood of ID so I can confirm.

  • +3

I bought one and I have to say that I'm a little disappointed in them.
Previously I had used something similar to this https://www.bunnings.com.au/mistral-50cm-black-hi-power-floo… and although these were a lot louder I felt like they managed to circulate air around my large living room better. Because I used this fan for a number of years, I also don't think the Vornado is very loud, so that might be saying something…
