Best price (after rebate) I have seen on this body by a long shot.

good luck… lol.. let us know as it would be interesting if they did.

I just jumped at the price (before I posted here), not worth the risk missing it, $1,198 is insanely cheap for this body..

      • About to go overseas on a trip. Currently gonna bring a nikon d3400 and a gopro hero 7 black for video…. Not sure if i need this but sure is a good price. How much would a decent lens be for this camera?

        • Either the Panasonic 15 F1.7 or the Sigma 16 F1.4 Both between 400-550 after 20% ebay discount.

          • @syswong: I can second the 15/1.7, brilliant lens.

        • Depends what you want? The premium kit for this leica - Panasonic 12-60mm 2.8-4 is a grand..

I already have a collection of lenses as have the model below (g85).

          • @joele: On the wide end is ok but this lens jumps to F4 way too soon. So at the long end you are getting F8 (35mm eq).

The FOV of a M43 sensor doubles the DOF so you really want the fastest lens in a M43 system. Having said that I wouldn't spend the money on their F1.2 primes or the 2.8-a zooms though.

I recommend going for the typical three prim set up. Get a wide angle according to your own budget, then the 25 f1.8 and the 42.5 1.8.

            • @syswong: Yeah depends what you want, I'm a prime shooter so apart from the 7-14mm I have no zooms.

I prefer the leica/Panasonic primes, so the 25/1.4 and 15/1.7.. I sold off my Olympus primes.

A mate of mine has the 12-60 2.8-4 and loves it, depends what you need I guess.

              • @joele: I really like the 20mm 1.7 - incredible lens considering it can be had $180-220 on eBay/gumtree/FB marketplace.

25mm suffers from focus shift which would drive me insane:
                https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBLQvpgFcZY (focus shift explained)
                https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToWxhXJmmCw (25mm 1.7 compared with 20mm 1.7)

Focus for the 20mm is a bit hit and miss in low light but apart from that I've been very glad I went for it over the Leica 15mm 1.7 as it would have costed more than twice what I paid for the 20mm.

I am tossing up however if I should ditch the 14-140mm + 20mm for a Viltrox EF-M2 and getting a Tamron 18-200+ and a Canon EF wide angle prime to give me 12-150+mm f2.8-4 and 12mm f1.2 stabilised for about the same as what I could sell the Panny 14-140mm + 20mm for.

                • @c0balt: I have never noticed focus shift with the 25/1.4 but then I pretty much only use that lens from f1.4 - f2 (mostly at f1.4 as that is why I bought it) so maybe I just never ran into the problem.. Going to make me want to test it now. LOL

Yeah I liked the 20/1.7 I just found as you said hit and miss with the focus in low light.

                  • +1

@joele: Sorry I should have mentioned that the focus shift problem is only on the 1.7, not the 1.4 lens.

                    • @c0balt: Ohh cool, yeah I have the 1.4 as I like the leica-panasonic branded lenses, they have a slightly different character to the images to me.. The 15/1.7 doesn't seem to have focus shift either as I use that lens most of all (my preferred FOV)..

                      • @joele: That's good, I wouldn't have thought they would be affected as they cost more than 3x that of the the 25mm 1.7. The reason I recommend the 20mm purely is the price of 2nd hand lenses. If the cost of the Leica 15mm 1.7, Sigma 16mm 1.4 or Oly 17mm 1.8 were more palatable and less sought after as a 2nd hand lens, then I would have gone for one of those - as I also prefer a wider FOV for most my shooting.

Also like to ad that the manual focus ring on the 20mm is really bad (takes so many turns, is quite a course mechanism and is cramped as it's close to the camera body). It's just the results I've been getting for it when I got it on an eBay sale for $160 more than justifies the shortcomings.

This is getting into G85 price range. Last week saw a refub g85 on 2nds world for $699. Glad I didn't pull the trigger.

Surprising good deal from these guys as they had not got such value deals for years!!!

    • Do you mean the GX85 deal the other week? Or was there another G85 deal I can't find? Considering that GX85 deal came with the Panny 14-140mm lens - it would have been a much better deal than this IMO.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/423125

Even without the lens I'd still take a G85 at $700 over a G9 at $1200. Although not the GX85 though as a flippy screen is pretty important to me and having a mic input is too.

      • that was actually 12-32mm lens, they marked it wrong..

        • No kidding.. well I'm no longer beating myself up too much over missing out on it now :)

Or was there another G85 deal I can't find?

        It was a G85 for $699.

        I take a new $1198 g9 over a refurbished $699 g85

Damn, that's really tempting. I should get out and use my E-M1 more though…

UGH I'M TRYING TO RESIST GETTING IT. MUST WAIT FOR THE FULL FRAME MIRRORLESS'S COMING 2019!!

  • Very sharp price! And I must resist …

  • This is a fantastic deal, was about to post it.

I just bought a G9 last week from the 20% off offer through Camerastore-Australia on ebay for $1719.20 after discount. Will claim TRS off original price ($195.36) then $300 EFTPOS card from Pana, essentially making it $1223.84.

If I had bought it through DigiDirect it would have been $1061.82 with TRS and EFTPOS card, some $162 cheaper. That's almost half the regular price which is $1999 everywhere else.

On a side note, coming from am 8 year old Nikon D90 which is APS-C, I did a lot of researching and comparisons. Didn't know whether to go for another Nikon as I could use my current lenses but the G9 ticked heaps of boxes for me. I mainly do stills (semi-professionally) but would like to venture into video and this does that excellently. The GH5 would have been an overkill as that's aimed at professional video whereas G9 hits the sweet spot with familiar button layout to DSLR and fantastic images. The in body image stabilisation is awesome and you could potentially do 1 second shutter speed photos without blur.

This guys review sums it up I reckon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggBhMbNF8LY

    • Just read about the TRS concession. Since this is over $900 wouldn't you have to declare it on the way back in and re-pay the tax? Sorry, have never does a TRS refund and am heading out in a couple of weeks to Vietnam. I have already purchased a $450 GoPro from JB Hi Fi. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

      • Yes, technically, when you re-enter Aus, you are suppose to re-pay the GST.
Many people claim the TRS (as have I in the past) because there are no checks. I haven't heard of anyone being checked before although in saying that, I'm sure it has happened.

      • If you are travelling in a group you can pool your allowance (900*no. Of people)

        • Travelling with the girlfriend. The border force/home affairs website makes it seem its only $900 per family member etc. I'm guessing if I declare this camera for us two travelling that it would be alright?

          • @kamac93: "If you are aged 18 years or over, you can bring up to AUD 900 worth of goods into Australia duty-free, or AUD 450 if you are younger than 18. Families travelling together can pool this allowance (a couple with one child can bring in a total of AUD 900 + AUD 900 + AUD 450 = AUD 2250 worth of goods into Australia without paying duty or GST). This is called your passenger concession."

  • Likely last high-end m4/3 body from Panasonic…

    • Depends entirely on how well their FF goes I guess? but yeah I suspect Panasonic m43 will shift to the small rangefinder bodies. Olympus is making a super high end DSLR style that will trump this one, but probably a lot more expensive (certainly more than this deal for a long time)..

    • The GH series is incredibly lucrative for them. It sells a truck-load of lenses. The GH5 was doing 4k 60fps 18 months ago and no FF has yet come close yet. The smaller sensor means they can push functionality advantages a generation before the larger formats, and that's enough to keep the system percolating along. The GH6 will be announced second half of next year for a pre-Olympics release.

      • soothsayer: you're right of course I wasn't thinking of the GH series, they aren't going anywhere, was more focused on the g9 and g85 which I think are going to slow down… but time will tell..

oh wow oh wow oh wow… whyyyyy OP did you have to post this….

    • Ha ha ha, I made sure I ordered first, but had to share..

          ETA?

  • Great deal. Been using mine for BIF since January and it has great strengths for this - 20 fps with no blackout, and Preburst.

But there are CAF weaknesses and action shooting keeper rates aren't brilliant.

  • Looks like they ended it already, anybody had their's ship? I ordered before I posted but just got an email yesterday that the sale was referred to online team, no shipping notice yet. Sale doesn't even show up in my history when I log in.

    • Weird, called them and they confirmed it shipped yesterday, just missing from my order history and I didn't get a shipping email. So they are honouring it, just for some reason they pulled this camera out of the sale.

      • Hi mate, did you get the camera eventually?

    • +1

maybe its for the better hahaha. i just saved $1k… but lost out on a new camera at a bloody good price.

    • Probably adjusting prices for the coming 15% off. They dont want to do 15% on top of 25% off

      • Do you think they will keep some of these discounts for the 15% off store wide

    • Most likely some other shops complain to the product manager and the pressure come down to DIGIdirect to put the price back up.

Camera market in Australia is one big F up price fixing industry. We seen it so often in OZB good deals are pull in a very short period of time. Price for recent releases are high enough already and this price fixed market just add oil to the fire.

Having said that I think 3C manufacturers has change their product life cycle. Look at Sony RX100 Mk1 and A7, they are still market as current product after more than 5 years of release. Back in the old days they would be thrown into the bargain basement bin or just totally canned. 3C manufacturers are making sure they cream as much profit as possible these days, which is bad news for consumers.
