    Processor: Intel Core i5 8400 Quad Core Processor (2.8GHz - 4.0GHz TurboBoost)

The i5 8400 is a 6 core processor. You’d think their own listing would be correct.

      Thanks edited for this post;)

Haha yeah, I knew you just quoted what they had on their listing. Pretty poor of them!

        • Can't blame them. Intel's had their CPUs set to 4 cores for…3+ years?

To the Rep: what entity are you using to trade with? Your domain techfast.com.au was registered by SAETHER JACKSON HOLDINGS PTY LTD but that doesn't own the business name TechFast. That is owned by Sayo Ozaki (sole trader).

      ssssuuuuuuusssssss aaaaffff

    • Luke's said that site's fairly out dated.

They PCs come in origin boxes, so I'd imagine they're in some way affiliated with them…which would be pretty funny, as they'd be the complete opposite of origin when it cones to value.

      • Those that have purchased - what shows on your invoice? Whether the site is old or not, they appear to be trading under TechFast.

  • how come this is so cheap

    • hence the bargain

some ppl like to pay $2000 for same performance but with GAMING + RGB + TITANIUM + ROG

Ok ok , this comes with shit PSU but still you can get a 80+ bronze for 70 bux.

    • -1

The case and PSU are cheap junk.
The motherboard is the cheapest possible with a chipset that will gimp the performance of the machine due to its lack of PCIe 3.0 lanes.
It's using one stick of DDR4 instead of two, which means you're missing out on dual channel memory, which further gimps the performance.
They're using the stock cooler which is hilariously inadequate if you want to use your machine for anything other than facebook.

Aside from all that, it's a great deal.

      • +1

        "lack of PCIe 3.0 lanes."

proof? kind of hard to imagine

the i5 8400 has a tdp of 65W so stock cooler is perfectly fine

you can throw as much shit as you want but these guys will continue winning because they deliver value unlike other retailers that want to make commission on each and every part

        • Google is your friend, or Intel's website. "H310M vs B250". Go on, give it a try.

          • @thatguyfromthatplace: "You still get PCIe Gen 3 x16 for the video card. The PCIe lane restriction may only really come into play if you intend to use an NVME / PCIe x4 drive (Samsung 960 Evo, Patriot Hellfire, Corsair MP500 etc…)"

so what's the problem? you can buy all the pcie lanes you want but its not going to give you more fps

you seem to not comprehend that this is a budget prebuild on ozbargain

            @thatguyfromthatplace: Example: https://www.asrock.com/MB/Intel/H310M-HDV/index.asp#Specific…

What do you mean by "lack of PCIe 3.0 lanes"? It does have a PCIe 3.0 x16 slot (it has to, otherwise it won't work with the graphics card). Given that you get a RTX 2080, I really doubt you want to run dual card setup.

Dual channel memory - let's be realistic here. No matter how much benefit you get from dual channel, the actual graphics card matters more (you put GTX 1050 Ti in there, even the best dual channel setup won't do much).

If you are talking about lack of PCIe lanes (i.e. no m.2 NVMe), that could be an issue for some people. However, if you are purely after a gaming machine, you don't benefit from m.2 NVMe for gaming. Standard SATA3 is already good enough. It is better cost wise.

The CPU + graphics cards together is already cheaper than standard RRPs. Rest are pretty much thrown in to make it a gaming PC.

            • @netsurfer: PCIe for the GPU is usually controlled directly by the CPU. Most intel i5's have 16 PCIe lanes which can be used in 1x16 or 2x8 or 1x8 2x4 mode. So pretty much any CPU will always have the full capability of running the GPU at either x8 or x16 mode.

The x1 and x4 pcie slots are usually controlled by the chipset and how many/what you have may vary depending on the chipset.

      • Would the gpu price goes down in a few months time?

        • +1

No one knows. At the moment:

          • nVidia have too much GTX 1060s (probably GTX 1070s, 1070 Tis as well). This basically means they will hold back on GTX/RTX 2060s.
          • I don't understand why nVidia and card partners don't simply drop the price. They still want to sell them slowly. Actually, card partners prefer to cancel chip orders, rather than make them and sell the cheap.
          • AMD Navi - a lot of hype surrounding it. Performance and price. I am cynical about the price because AMD did not price RX 590 cheap so all these Navi cards will be competitive and cheap are just too good to be true.

We do need AMD Navi to push nVidia to drop prices. These RTX 2080s are not mainstream cards for nVidia. nVidia get the bulk of their revenue from 1060s.

          • @netsurfer: I guess I'll wait for even better deal next time.

            Not really needing an upgrade.
Can't think of a use case to upgrade my old i5 4960 and no gpu.

          • @netsurfer: I think they don't want to drop prices of the 1060 cards because Nvidia stocks already crashed to half of what they were and have shareholders wanting to pull out now. If they drop the cards price it will look even worse and people will never want to pay full price for the card again.

google the walmart overpowered pc's, its similar to what you'll get, https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=overpowered+pc

  • Is the card still an msi duke like the Ryzen build yesterday?

    • Believe it'll typically be the galax or ASUS (blower) cards.

That MSI one was a hell of a deal for that fella. Although I'm sure I'll be corrected if there's proof of it being new stock.

Is this the opposite of how every prebuilt has an i7 and 32gb ram and crappy GPU?

    • +1

Think of it as how you would build a console with RTX 2080. You go for a really powerful GPU, a CPU that makes sense for gaming. Don't go overboard on everything else. With gaming, you are playing games, you don't need loads of RAM (you are not going to run 10 apps concurrently when playing games). No point getting a fancy motherboard - yes cheap and lite MB has limited features, but the BIOS would be simple and actually boots fast.

      • That's….not a bad way of explaining it. I'd say it's suprising more pre-built builders don't think more like that, but that's easily answered.

Mind that, if only consoles would bother with the CPU. The CPUs in those things are…sub par.

Yeah I know they're 3/4 years old now. But both MS and Sony had an "upgrade" to their console.

        Regardless, that's off topic.
