Note that 8gb has been cheaper in the past.

Is this worth buying? Planning to get a laptop bring it to class. Sorry if the question is weird

      Why is it weird?

Don't get the 4gb version, it's slow as shit. It uses eMMC storage instead of SSD, in addition to only having 4gb of memory. High end landfill.

For me this size screen is too small to be practical for much other than reading notes with a small amount of typing. Movies would be ok too. You would not want to be using this as your primary machine.

      • Thanks for the info!

I probably will get the 64 GB for typing out notes in class and have work done at home desktop. Probably will use this to run small coding like Linus thats pretty much it.

Edit: oops was dumb about the 4gb version yeah I'll get 128gb then

      • Am getting it just to power a 4K display - would it be too slow to use still at 60hz?

        • pretty exp to just get content on a tv. apple tv/chrome cast/raspberry pi with plex no good?

          • @keishton: It’s for work. It needs to run a bunch of windows applications, network shares and presentations, reliably. We tried chromecast and pi - not great in a work environment..

            • @moorey: fair enough an i3 nuc is also an option if you need windows

              • @keishton: It’s a fair point and I did consider it.

Filling a nuc up to reasonable spec means it’s about the same price of the 64gb surface go but go has a touchscreen which is great for PowerPoint presentations.

Even considered the dell sff units.

I have the 8gb version. I use it to catch up on work while commuting or stuck in meetings. Sure it's small, but it's light and the battery lasts for 5 hours. You can connect full size keyboards and external monitors if you also have the dock, but for me it's a secondary device.

The track pad buttons sometimes don't work if you are using on your lap, or some other less than flat surface, but it's not unique to the Go, full size surface keyboard also has the same issue.

    • Cool, gonna get my hands on this during boxing day shopping. I'm wondering how many accessories on top would I need to grab as well when my budget is tight

  • Is this worth it, or just like the RT models of previous years

    • 64gb isn’t RT but runs Windows 10 S though it’s upgradeable to full Home (one way) for free

      • 64gb isnt very big for windows 10 home either

        • Micro SDs are cheap these days for space expansion

          • @moorey: They're also very slow compared to a proper SSD.

  • I wonder how this would compare with a cheap Android tablet like the Lenovo Tab4 Plus for web browsing.

  • this or ipad pro 2018 for sculpting and drawing?

    • iPad pro but they are overpriced

  • Is the 8gb fast enough? Is it a fast as galaxy tab s4 in Web browsing?

    • For web browsing, the 4GB should be more than enough. Just bare in mind of the storage isn't SSD.

  • Slow Facebook web browsing probably, but nothing is fast at $500 price point for web browsing
